The Special SOMHD Meeting of the ASEAN Health Sector successfully convened from 6–8 May 2026 at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The 3-day meeting brought together SOMHD Focal Points from all 11 ASEAN Member States, Chairs and Vice Chairs of ASEAN Health Clusters 1–4, facilitated by the ASEAN Secretariat, to shape the strategic direction for the next phase of ASEAN Health Agenda and regional priorities for 2026-2030. Malaysia, as the Chair for the ASEAN Health Sector for 2026-2030 was honored to lead the series of discussions, chaired by YBrs. Dr. Ismuni bin Bohari as SOMHD Focal Point and Deputy Director General of Health (Public Health) from Ministry of Health Malaysia. The Malaysian delegates also included Dr. Nor Zahrin bt. Hasran as Head of Delegates and Dr. Nur Sofiani Diana bt. Mohd. Yusof, both of whom are Public Health Medicine Specialists from MOH Malaysia.
Key outcomes achieved:
✅ Finalisation on the draft ASEAN Health Cluster Work Programmes 2026–2030, with consensus from all AMS. This core document will be delivered for endorsement at the 20th SOMHD in June and planned for adoption at the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting (AGMM) in September 2026
✅ Review and updates on governance and implementation frameworks, aligned with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the ASCC Strategic Plan
✅ Advancement of TOR guidance and Rules of Procedure to strengthen ASEAN Health Sector coordination and partnerships
Together, ASEAN continues to advance a more resilient, coordinated, and future-ready regional health sector.
