Kids Cove

Kids Cove Kids Cove is a community based group. For now, we conduct community storytime in FooChou Park twice a month, usually on the second and fourth Sunday 5.15pm.

Kids Cove currently is a registered local business centre. We operate like a mini library where there are variety of picture books in different languages for you to explore by yourself, with your love one, with peers, or even with our staff. We have picture book sharing sessions at particular time every week where our staff will be sharing about different picture books, action rhymes/songs, and art and craft which is related to the picture book shared.

🌿 A Special Moment for Our Storytime 🌿

We are truly thankful to reporter 甄玲 from Sin Chew Daily for noticing and valuing our little community Storytime 💛
Not only did she interview us, she also personally attended one of our full Storytime sessions to truly experience what our gathering is about. We deeply appreciate the time, sincerity, and effort she put into this exclusive coverage.

This news coverage is not just about me.
It is about our community.
It is about every family, every child, every parent, and every story friend who has contributed, participated, and made our Storytime what it is today 🌈

From listening to stories, sharing books, bringing snacks, stepping forward to read aloud for the first time, to simply sitting together in the park — every little contribution matters.

We hope our Storytime will continue to grow healthily and gently, becoming a warm little corner that brings more connection, stories, and joy to our community 🌿📖

Last Sunday, I was away. It feels really reassuring to know that there is someone covering for you, and that you have a great team capable of moving forward independently even when you are away. Miss Dorina was leading the session. The para below was also written by Dorina to share about the storytime session.

"Our storytelling session began with 3 families joining us for a fun an evening of stories and laughter! ❤️The first storytelling session was conducted by Dalinda with the book I Am Invited to a Party! by Mo Willems. The children were excited and amused by Piggie and Elephant’s fancy pool costume party! 🐷🐘🎉 After the story, Dalinda asked the children questions about what they had listened to, and they were delighted to receive funny cat stickers as gifts. 😸

The session continued with storytelling by Dorina using the book The Great Aaa-Ooo! by Jonny Lambert. The children eagerly guessed which animal was making the mysterious sound throughout the story. 🦉🐒🐻 One curious child even asked why the animals did not fall from the branches even though so many of them were standing together! 😄 In the end, the branches could no longer hold the heavy load, and down they went — right at the moment the animals finally discovered who made the sound!

Although two more families arrived after the storytelling sessions ended, they still enjoyed reading the books together on their own. Meanwhile, the parents had a lovely time catching up and chatting about the upcoming Gawai holiday. 🌾✨

Thank you to all the families who joined us and made the session warm, lively, and meaningful. Looking forward to our next reading adventure together! ❤️📖"

For your information, our next storytime will be happening on the second weekend of June at the Sibu Heritage Centre as part of WAK Festival Sibu! ✨

The good news is that there will be two different sessions and even more stories to enjoy during the weekend.

📍 Sibu Heritage Centre
🗓 13 & 14 June
⏰ 5.30 PM – 6.30 PM

Hope to see you there for another wonderful storytelling weekend! 📚🌱

🌿✨ WAK Festival 2026 × Stories We Share - A Community Storytime ✨🌿

We are happy to share that Kids Cove Storytime will be collaborating with the upcoming WAK Festival this June!

Over the past years, our storytime has slowly grown into a space where not only adults, but also children courageously step forward to share stories with others. Some shared for the very first time in their lives. Some started as listeners and slowly became storytellers themselves.

At WAK Festival, we hope to bring this beautiful community spirit into a bigger public space — where stories are shared not by one storyteller alone, but by families, children, parents, and community friends together 🌿

📖 There will be:

picture book sharing
community storytelling
children storytellers
parent-child participation
interactive moments with the audience

We believe stories do not only belong inside books or classrooms. Stories can happen in parks, in festivals, and among people from the community.

In a world where children are increasingly surrounded by screens, we hope to continue creating spaces where they can gather, listen, imagine, speak, laugh, and simply be together 💛

We sincerely invite everyone to come and experience this gentle and meaningful storytelling session with us.

Last Sunday, we held our first Storytime session for May. As the second Sunday falls on Mother’s Day, we wanted to leave that special time for everyone to celebrate with their loved ones.

Even though we shifted to the first Sunday, many of our regular story friends still came, and it was so nice to see familiar faces gathered again in the park.

We began the session with 《你好,安东医生 - 宝宝出生了!》. With one of our mummies expecting her baby very soon, this story felt especially meaningful. It sparked conversations not only about pregnancy in animals and humans, but more lively sharing came from the mummies themselves, as they talked about their own birth experiences. It was such a real and heartfelt moment of connection .

After that, Faith took over the floor. She came prepared with a stack of new books she had just picked up from Popular Bookstore, and everyone was immediately drawn to them. She let the children vote on which book to share—but interestingly, each book received the same number of votes! In the end, she chose Alice in Wonderland, and the children were fully engaged in her storytelling.

To wrap up the session, I shared A Well-Mannered Wolf. It’s a book I’ve had for quite some time, and it never fails to be interesting. For younger children, it’s funny and playful, but for the older ones (and the adults), it opens up deeper questions—what does it really mean to be “well-mannered”? Does being polite always mean being good? Does being rude make someone bad? It was lovely to see both children and parents smiling and reflecting as the story unfolded.

A big thank you to Elaine, as always, for preparing delicious snacks for our little story friends. They are truly pampered, and I think many of them have come to expect something yummy at every session now!

After storytime, the children happily ran off to play freely around the park, ending the evening in the best way.

🌿 May Storytime Announcement 🌿

Hello story friends! 💛

Our May Storytime will be on:
📖 3rd May (this coming Sunday)
📖 17th May (the third Sunday)

Due to Mother’s Day falling on the second Sunday and the school holidays starting on the fourth Sunday, our May Storytime will be held on the first and third Sundays instead.

We hope to see all our story friends on these dates!
Our apologies to those who are only available on the second and fourth Sundays — we’ll miss you and hope to see you again next month.

See you at the park! 🌿✨

Our previous session was cancelled due to bad weather, so we were especially grateful that after the morning rain, the sky cleared and allowed us to gather in the park again as planned. It felt really good to be back together.

This evening, we also had a special guest joining us—a reporter from Sin Chew Daily. She came to take photos and interview some of our parents. We truly hope that beyond her work, she also enjoyed the simple joy of our storytime with the children.

We were delighted to have Lov and Dalinda step forward to share their favourite picture books. Lov started the session with a wonderful warm-up. Her sharing about the mischievous cats was full of interaction, and she quickly drew the younger children into the story.

Dalinda then continued with a classic folktale, The Nutcracker. It was such a lovely sharing, especially when she guided the children to count the mice together. For someone so young to be able to engage and lead the group so confidently—it was truly impressive.

To wrap up the session, I shared a Chinese picture book 《造一片天空》. It is a meaningful story that gently brings us back to the importance of caring for our environment. The children were very expressive, actively sharing their thoughts and ideas throughout. It made for a calm yet deeply interactive session.

As always, we ended on a sweet note— Ting Elaine brought freshly baked blueberry cupcakes for everyone to enjoy. After that, the children happily ran off to play around the park, filling the evening with laughter and energy
