πŸŽ“ She applied once and was unsuccessful. She applied again. This time, she was .

For many applicants, receiving a rejection would be the end of the journey. For Matilde Malukolo, it was motivation to keep going.

When her first Chevening application was unsuccessful, she took the lessons from the experience, refined her story, and applied again. This time, her determination paid off.

For Matilde, education is about more than teaching. It is about creating opportunities for learners to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

As a teacher and school counsellor at Dawid Bezuidenhout High School in Windhoek, she supports learners through their academic, social and personal development. Through her work in education, she has seen how poverty and inequality can shape a learner's opportunities and future prospects. These experiences inspired her to look beyond the classroom and explore how policy can help address these challenges at a broader level.

Now, Matilde is heading to the University of Bristol πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ to pursue an MSc in Education Policy and International Development through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme.

Her goal is simple but powerful:

"To help build an education system where a learner's economic background does not determine the quality of opportunities they receive."

Matilde holds a Bachelor of Public Management from NUST, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from IUM, and a Master of Education specialising in English Language Teaching from Great Zimbabwe University.

Her advice to future applicants?

"Be authentic. Don't try to sound like someone else. Know your story, understand the problem you want to address, and clearly explain what you have done, what you want to achieve and how you will achieve it."

Congratulations, Matilde, on being ! 🌟

From the classroom in Outapi to Cardiff University in the United Kingdom πŸ‡³πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

For Thomas Shaanika, education is more than teaching in the classroom. It is about shaping policies that create opportunities for future generations.
Thomas teaches English Second Language and Geography to Grades 8 and 9 at Ouma Combined School in the Outapi Circuit, Omusati Region. He holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from the University of Namibia (UNAM) and is committed to improving education through effective public policy.

Through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme, Thomas will pursue an MSc in Social and Public Policy at Cardiff University.

His goal is clear: to better understand how effective public policy can strengthen education systems and improve governance for all citizens.
"We need public policy frameworks that accommodate all citizens. Through Chevening, I will gain new perspectives, valuable networks, and ideas that I can bring back to Namibia."
This was Thomas's first Chevening application, and he is excited, grateful, and honoured to receive this prestigious scholarship opportunity.
Congratulations, Thomas.

We look forward to seeing the impact you will make in Namibia and beyond. 🌟
