LETS ENGAGE | Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services Hambeleleni Ndjaleka held an engagement meeting with the Kavango West Regional Leadership of the Kavango West region at Nkurenkuru today.

The meeting comes after a high level meeting by the regional leadership with the Prime Minister last month, where the deputy minister promised to visit the region as a matter of urgency after a myriad of challenges affecting the region were submitted.

The Kavango West Regional political and management leadership held a fruitful engagement with the Right Honourable Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare in Windhoek today.

This comes after the leadership sought a meeting with the premier to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the region.

Some of the critical issues raised are the underfunding to the region over the years which compromises service delivery , lack of roads, construction of the Nkurenkuru Intermediate Hospital, and the construction of the youth centre.

Leading the delegation, Honourable Titus Shiudifonya, who stood in for the Council chairperson, informed the PM that inhabitants of the region are tired of consistently being given little resources, leaving the region still underdeveloped, despite consistently having given their votes and mandate to the Swapo party.

"We contribute significantly to ensure that we give Swapo the mandate to govern, but the cadres you deploy as Ministers and technocrats on the highest levels are neglecting us after, we continue to be neglected and receive little resources. This cannot continue like that, we are the youngest of the regions and we should be given more as we have nothing , we have to start from scratch," he said.

He questioned the method used to allocate budgets to the regions and urged for targeted interventions to ensure that the region benefits equally from the cake.

Presenting to the same meeting , Kavango West Regional Council Chief Regional Officer Matheus Singambwe questioned the modalities used to allocate resources to the regions.

Giving reference to the 2026/27 MTEF, he noted that the region submitted a budget of N$ 133 504 328.00, but the line ministry (MURD ) only authorized a total budget of N$ 90 725 784.00.

He further pointed to the allocation of only N$ 500 000.00 to Nkurenkuru Town Council while other local authorities such as Omaruru received a N$ 100 million, Rundu N$ 75 million, Katima
Mulilo N$ 100 million, Bukalo Village Council N$ 35 million.

The meeting was attended by various ministers and heads of institutions.
