𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 | Today marks the conclusion of the Validation Workshop for the Revised Guides on Promoting Positive Masculinities to Keep Boys Engaged in Education in Namibia.

From 9–10 September 2026 in Swakopmund, stakeholders from UNESCO and MEIYSAC, teacher education institutions, curriculum developers, civil society, and development partners are gathering to:
✅ Review the revised Namibia-adapted manuals
✅ Validate alignment with national education policies
✅ Ensure cultural relevance, inclusiveness, and readiness for implementation

Together, we are shaping tools that empower educators and learners, fostering a more inclusive and supportive education system.

𝐍𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐧-𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟑 | 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠

It’s a wrap - and what a wrap it was yesterday! Our planning week closed with an electrifying team-building activity that echoed laughter, strengthened teamwork and radiated the vibrant spirit of NIED. One could almost believe these echoes compose a unique NIED song - a melody of unity, resilience, strength, purpose and joy.

We also bid farewell to our outgoing In-House and Social Club Committee members, thanking them for their dedication, while welcoming a newly elected Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and members ready to carry the torch forward. Alongside this, the plotting of our next calendar year has begun - ensuring that prospective activities undergo management intervention and appropriate planning before the final calendar is shared.

We can’t wait to unveil the NIED Calendar of Activities for 2027/2028, a roadmap of innovation, collaboration and spirited engagement for the betterment of the Namibian child's education.

Halfway through the year, our plans are alive and so is the energy that roams beautifully among our staff members. This week may have concluded, but our journey continues - the spirit of collaboration and innovation carries us forward.

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐃 | 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐒𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐓𝐨𝐓 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 - 𝟏–𝟑 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Led by Ms. Claudia Maritshane (NIED), the Economics TOT Workshop in Tsumeb brought together teachers from all 14 regions of Namibia. Even during the school holidays, they chose to dedicate their time to professional growth - a true reflection of their passion for teaching.

Their commitment went beyond subject training. By sharing experiences and building networks, educators strengthened both their expertise and the collaborative spirit that will carry into classrooms across the country.

We sincerely commend these teachers for going the extra mile. Their example reminds us that education thrives when educators embody resilience, service, and a deep belief in shaping Namibia’s future.

A Powerful Prayer session set the tone for the day followed by a well-deserved presentation on Ethics at Work.

Staff members engaged in a team-building activity that not only represented the core value of listening and working together as a team but also reflected the importance of clear communication, responsiveness to change and unity in action.

𝐍𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐧-𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 | 𝟐–𝟒 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) has officially commenced its In-House Week for Planning, scheduled from 2–4 September 2026.

The week was officially opened by NIED Director, Dr Patrick Simalumba, who welcomed staff members and emphasized the importance of being 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 - fully engaged, prepared and committed to planning for the year ahead.

In his opening address, Dr Simalumba encouraged staff members to plan purposefully and to possess a strong and comprehensive understanding of the institution they serve. He reminded colleagues that, as ambassadors of NIED, they represent the institution wherever they go and should therefore allow their knowledge, professionalism and commitment to shine.

He further highlighted the importance of continuous self-development, noting that evidence-based knowledge is strengthened through self-learning, hands-on practice and a personal commitment to growth. Innovation and creativity, he emphasized, are often driven by an individual's determination to succeed and continuously improve in their daily responsibilities.

As we navigate an increasingly digital era, staff members were encouraged to embrace technology and explore innovative ways of reaching and serving the nation. The effective use of technology and available resources can help the institution work smarter, maximize efficiency and redirect resources towards other equally important priorities.

Dr Simalumba's address placed self-development, innovation, accountability and institutional growth at the centre of NIED's continued progress. He encouraged colleagues not only to focus on their individual responsibilities, but also to consider what each person can contribute towards strengthening and advancing the institution as a whole.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to officially introduce newly appointed staff members to the NIED family.

The Director further emphasized the importance of crisis preparedness and management, drawing lessons from unexpected situations such as the hailstorm disaster experienced earlier this year. Such unforeseen events, he noted, should never be allowed to derail the institution from fulfilling its mandate and responsibilities.

Most importantly, Dr Simalumba reminded staff that the action plans developed during the planning process must serve as practical guides that direct, monitor and hold the institution accountable for the commitments it makes.

As NIED comes together to reflect, strategize and prepare for the future, the message remains clear:

𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭- 𝐂𝐏𝐃|𝐈𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

Mr. Thomas Maswahu, ICT Integration Officer for NIED and his co-facilitators concluded yet another ICT Integration workshop, held from 15–19 August 2026. The aim was to capacitate Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) on a comprehensive set of digital skills. Modules covered included Office 365 basics, cybersecurity, AI for learners and teachers, PowerPoint presentation design, Excel, NotesMaster, and online quiz creation.

These ToTs are now positioned to cascade training regionally, ensuring that practical ICT skills are transferred to educators, administrators, and school leaders across Namibia. The workshop emphasized hands-on application, equipping participants to integrate digital tools into both classroom practice and administrative workflows.

With the National ICT in Education (NICE), fast approaching, this training is both timely and strategic. The skills acquired directly align with the summit’s agenda of showcasing ICT integration at multiple levels of education. ToTs are prepared to demonstrate real-world applications-from AI in classrooms to NotesMaster lesson design-reinforcing Namibia’s ICT in Education roadmap and ensuring that the benefits extend beyond the training cohort to the wider education system.

Great strides were made this week, as our Curriculum Panels working group met to map out the strategy for drafting the new Oshikwanyama and Oshindonga Orthography rules!

Updating an orthography is a crucial step in ensuring our learning materials remain accessible, consistent, and relevant for future generations.
