A truly special moment in the Erongo Mountains, Namibia.

While Anne Rust from Omandumba Guest Farm & Bush Camp was out on a hike she was lucky enough to come across a small family of Bat‑eared foxes hidden in the long grass. As a few quietly scuttled away, one curious fox chose to stay, watching calmly as she came closer — an unforgettable encounter and a powerful reminder of how magical these wild spaces are when left undisturbed.

A heartfelt thank you to Omandumba Bush Camp for sharing this beautiful video. Please help us spread the word by sharing it too, and in doing so, bring awareness to the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary (EMNS).

The EMNS is a collaborative conservation initiative that protects nearly 180,000 hectares of Namibia’s ancient Erongo Mountain wilderness. By removing internal fences and working together across private land, the sanctuary allows wildlife to move freely, safeguards indigenous fauna and flora, and supports the long‑term protection of endangered and endemic species — all while promoting responsible tourism and conservation for future generations.

Meet the Bat‑eared Fox, one of the smallest and most fascinating residents of the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary.

These beautiful moments were captured by guests Katharina & Jannes during their stay at .

The foxes look a little damp thanks to the recent rains — a rare and wonderful time in the Erongo Mountains, when the landscape comes alive and insect activity increases.

Bat‑eared foxes are specially adapted to this environment. Their oversized ears help them listen for insects underground and regulate body temperature, and unlike most foxes, their diet consists mainly of termites and other insects.

They play an important role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

The Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary provides a protected refuge where wildlife like this can thrive naturally, undisturbed and respected.

Encounters like these remind us why conservation and responsible tourism matter — to ensure these unique animals remain part of Namibia’s wild places for generations to come.

We are incredibly grateful to Erongo Rocks for sharing these recent camera trap photos, which offer a powerful glimpse into the remarkable variety of wildlife that calls the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary home.

These images are more than just photographs—they are reminders of why we protect this landscape. Hidden among the granite domes and ancient valleys, a diverse range of animals moves freely through this largely fence‑free Sanctuary, living as nature intended.

Every species captured by these cameras represents the ongoing commitment to safeguarding the indigenous fauna and flora of the Erongo Mountains, and to ensuring that future generations will still be able to experience this wild place. Conservation is not always visible—but moments like these make the impact real.

🙏 Thank you, Erongo Rocks, for your continued support and for helping shine a light on the wildlife we are working so hard to protect. Together, we stand for conservation, coexistence, and the preservation of Namibia’s natural heritage.

A little mid‑week joy from the Erongo Mountains…

One of our EMNS members Ombu Farm sent us this beautiful clip of these Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra's doing what they do best — frolicking, testing their legs, and causing a bit of mischief.

Stay with it until the end and watch them get a little extra playful.

These are Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, a species quite different from the plains zebra most people know from Etosha. A few things that make them special:

🦓They’re true mountain athletes — incredibly sure‑footed, built for steep rocky slopes, and able to thrive in rugged terrain where few other large animals can.

🦓 Their stripes don’t wrap around the belly — they have a distinctive white belly and a grid‑like pattern on the rump.

🦓 They’re drought‑adapted — capable of going longer without water than plains zebra, a crucial trait in our arid landscapes.

🦓 They’re conservation‑dependent — Hartmann’s are a vulnerable subspecies, and protected areas like the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary play a vital role in their long‑term survival.

Enjoy the video — and the reminder of why these mountains matter so much.

Hello from the Erongo Mountains — it’s been a while!

We’ve been a bit quiet on here, but the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary has been as alive and mischievous as ever.

I finally pulled the latest photos from our camera traps, and they were the perfect reminder of why we care so deeply about protecting this Sanctuary for future generations.

Every image is a small glimpse into the wild, humorous, resilient life we’re safeguarding out here.

A heartfelt thank you to all our guests who stay at the tourism accommodations within the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary:

For the past 18 months your visits have been directly supporting this conservation work — NAD10 per person for camping and NAD20 per person for rooms goes straight into the EMNS fund to help us with anti‑poaching and ongoing protection efforts. Your presence truly makes a difference.

I’m excited to start sharing more regular updates again — the wildlife, the seasons, the stories, and the quiet magic of this place we’re honoured to protect.

Here’s to more moments from the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary.

🦌 The Damara Dik-Dik – A Tiny Wonder of the Erongo Mountains 🌿

At the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary, we’re privileged to share our landscape with one of Namibia’s most enchanting residents: the Damara Dik-Dik. Standing just 30–40 cm tall, these miniature antelope are masters of camouflage, darting through the underbrush with delicate grace and wide-eyed curiosity.

Despite their size, Dik-Diks play a vital role in our ecosystem—grazing on leaves and shoots, and helping shape the vegetation of our rocky terrain. Their monogamous nature and lifelong pair bonds remind us of the quiet strength found in connection and resilience.

If you're lucky enough to spot one during your visit, pause and take in the moment. These shy creatures are a testament to the sanctuary’s mission: protecting the rare, the wild, and the wonderfully small.

📸 Have you seen a Dik-Dik in the Erongo Mountains? Share your sightings and stories below—we’d love to hear them!
