OSHANA OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND ORAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK
The Oshana Directorate of Health today joined other regions across the country in officially launching Non-Communicable Diseases and Oral Health Awareness Week under the theme, “Healthy Mouth, Healthy Body: Promoting Oral Health for Our Wellbeing.”
Oral Health Week is observed annually from 14 to 18 September to raise awareness, promote prevention, encourage early detection and remind communities of the importance of oral health to their overall wellbeing.
Deputy Mayor of Oshakati, Her Worship Mariana Pokolo, officiated the launch on behalf of Oshana Regional Governor Hofni Iipinge.
Pokolo stressed that a healthy mouth is a prerequisite for a healthy body.
“When our people suffer from untreated dental infections, severe tooth decay and chronic pain, it compromises their quality of life,” she said.
She reaffirmed the region’s commitment to addressing the oral health crisis through three strategies: school-based preventive programmes, upgrading infrastructure and equipment, and strengthening public-private collaborations.
The Oral Health Awareness Week will be characterised by free oral health education, one-on-one consultations and oral screenings by health officials at Ongwediva SPAR tomorrow, 15 September 2026, as well as a visit to Eluwa Special School.
The same services will continue to be offered at Okagongo KAangandjela on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
On Thursday, 17 September, the team will provide these essential services to the community at Uukwiyu Uushona Clinic and the Ondangwa Town Council.
The programme will conclude at Olunho Correctional Facility in Ondangwa on Friday, 18 September 2026.
