IT'S A WRAP | The Kavango East Regional Council has concluded it's constituency visitation program today.

The exercise offered the inhabitants of the region a platform to engage with the regional leadership on every aspects that affects their daily lives.

The inhabitants came out in their numbers and had fruitful deliberations with their leaders.

Today's meeting was held at Tumweneni informal settlement in the outskirts of Rundu.

VAGCIRIKU HOMPA CORONATION | Hundreds of people from the two Kavango regions and dignitaries from across the country are gathered at Ndiyona Traditional Authority office in Kavango East Region to witness the official coronation and designation of Bartholomeus Aruvita Kayoka as the new Hompa of the VaGciriku Traditional community.

CONSTITUENCY VISITATION HIGHLIGHTS | The week long engagements between the Kavango East Regional Council leadership and the inhabitants of the region has been described as a good initiative which is long overdue.

The visitation exercise afforded the residents of Kavango East Region an opportunity to sit under one roof with both the political leadership and the regional council management to raise issues which are effecting their daily lives.

During the course of the visitation exercise, community members in various constituencies indicated that they are still faced with numerous challenges which, amongst others, include underdevelopment and extreme poverty in the constituencies;long distances to access public services; limited access to water and sanitation; non availability of health care facilities; lack of roads and telecommunications infrastructure; shortage of basic and high education facilities and limited access to electricity.

The regional leadership made efforts to respond and provided relevant information to all concerns raised by the region's inhabitants.

The constituency visitation exercise will conclude on Monday at Tumweneni village in Rundu Urban Constituency.

CONSTITUENCY VISITATION CONTINUES | Kavango East Regional Council leadership continues to engage inhabitants of the region.

Today, they visited public facilities in Ndonga Linena constituency where they were briefed on various issues which are hindering the provision of effective public service delivery.

At Nyangana Catholic Hospital, the Regional leadership was informed of the numerous challenges which are limiting the rendering of health care services to the inhabitants of the constituency.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONS | Kavango East Region Political Office Bearers, management, heads of delegated line ministries and officials from the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development are undertaking a constituency visitation program in all six constituencies of the region.

The purpose of the constituency visitation program is to increase public awareness and understanding of the kavango East Regional Council's mandate, roles and functions among the inhabitants of the region.

It is also aimed at engaging the residents of the region on issues that affects their daily lives.

Through this exercise, the council seeks to involve people at grassroots level in the process where they can identify their needs, explore solutions, make decisions that affects them, and they can plan actions with local and regional authorities on an equal footing.

HEAD OF STATE GREEN SCHEME VISIT | President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia has the capacity to become food self-reliant and the capacity to export if more investment is made in agriculture.

Speaking at the conclusion of her visit to several
irrigation green scheme projects in both Kavango West and East Regions, the Head of State indicated that she observed an increase in production of land under irrigation.

The President attributed the improvement in crop production to the submission she made to cabinet where she called for urgent intervention to challenges which the green scheme were faced with.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that since most of the challenges were adequately addressed, the irrigation green scheme projects are progressing well, while further calling upon all Namibians to invest in agriculture in order for the country to achieve food security.

The Rob Youth Foundation has donated 90 mattresses and 145 mosquito nets worth N$ 100 000 to flood victims at Mbapuka village in the Mukwe Constituency of the Kavango East Region.

The humanitarian gesture will cater for 40 households with each affected individual receiving a single mattress and a mosquito net.

Handing over the donation, Rob Youth Foundation Regional Manger for Kavango East, Anna Ndondi was hopeful that the contribution will provide relief and comfort to the flood affected communities.

On her part, the village headwoman Elizabeth Kangere conveyed the community's gratitude, stressing that the donation came at the right time as the people in the constituency are already suffering from malaria outbreak.

WELCOME HOME| The Kavango east regional team - the REIGNING NETBALL CHAMPIONS at the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup in keetmanshoop recieved a heroes welcome back home.

The team presented the TROPHY to the Regional Governor.
