● Emergency Medical Response

A partial head-on crash on the B2 route on the railway bridge near Vergenoegd on Saturday afternoon.

Six patients in total with the MVA Fund of Namibia, Usakos State Ambulance and Code Red Medical Services in attendance. One patient had to be extricated from the one wreckage by the Rössing mine Fire and Rescue team using hydraulic rescue equipment under the guidance of the MVA Fund paramedic.

One patient (less seriously injured) required paramedical intervention at the scene and was transported to the Usakos State Hospital for further management and care.

The remaining four patients (one person refused transport) with less serious and minor injuries, respectively, were transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital for assessment and care.

● Emergency Medical Response

Responded to an MVA on the B2 route towards Arandis early this morning involving two trucks earlier today.

The tanker caught fire soon after the crash and was engulfed in flames soon thereafter. Both drivers escaped the inferno but still required on-scene medical intervention before both were transported to hospital for further assessment and care.

● Emergency Medical Response

MVA on the B2 route approximately 30 kms outside Swakopmund near the Rössing mountain. Driver (sole occupant) sustained injuries in the crash and required on-scene intervention and stabilisation.

The driver was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, which made a significant difference to the outcome.

Can you relate ?

In one month, I wrote with both of these pens until the very last drop of ink.

It is truly an achievement considering that in the paramedical profession, a pen normally lasts a week (if that) before it miraculously disappears, gets misplaced, stolen, and even borrowed, but never returned.

All transfers are pre-authorised, meaning that the preferred ambulance service provider will consult your medical aid (irrespective of which medical aid) first before any undertaking.

The medical aid might request a quote to ensure reasonable pricing and to ensure the correct service level e.g. basic, intermediate, ECT or advanced life support. Liaison with the attending medical officer also forms part of the pre-authorization process to ensure the continuation of patient care. In consultation all parties involved will contribute towards a decision on the mode of transport e.g. road ambulance or air ambulance all done in the best interest of the patient.
