On Thursday, 30 July 2026, the Namibian Police Force Erongo Region took part in a Joint Road Block Operation hosted by the Trans Kalahari Corridor National Committee (TKCNC) at Karibib Road Traffic Check Point, in Erongo Region. The operation was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Tobias Ge**er, Head of the Crime Prevention Division, in Erongo Region, and has brought together key stakeholders, including the Roads Fund Administration (RFA), National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, Walvis Bay Corridor Group, Windhoek City Police, Roads Authority Transportation Inspectors, and the Swakopmund Municipality Traffic Division.

The operation was conducted to enhance road safety, promote compliance with road traffic legislation, and strengthen coordinated law enforcement efforts along the Trans Kalahari Corridor. The joint roadblock focused on inspecting vehicles, verifying drivers' licences and vehicle documentation, checking vehicle roadworthiness, enforcing road transport regulations, and preventing road traffic offences as well as other criminal activities through a multi-agency approach.

The operation was successfully conducted, demonstrating strong collaboration and coordination among all participating stakeholders. The joint effort reinforced the commitment of the agencies to improve road safety, enhance compliance with traffic regulations, prevent road-related offences, and ensure safe movement of people and goods along the Trans Kalahari Corridor.

SWAKOPMUND MUNICIPALITY DONATES TWO VEHICLES TO STRENGTHEN POLICING IN THE ERONGO REGION

Swakopmund, Erongo Region Friday, 10 July 2026

The Swakopmund Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community safety through the official handover of two Peugeot vehicles to the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL), Erongo Region, during a ceremony held at the Swakopmund Fire Station.

The event was attended by senior government officials, local authority representatives, members of the Namibian Police Force, and other invited stakeholders. The keynote address, delivered on behalf of the Honourable Lucia Iipumbu, MP, Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, was presented by Honourable Inecia Brandt, Deputy Minister of Justice and Labour Relations.

In her address, Honourable Brandt commended the Swakopmund Municipality for its exemplary leadership and steadfast commitment to promoting public safety through its continued support of the Namibian Police Force. She emphasized that effective policing is built on strong partnerships between government institutions, local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and the communities they serve. She further encouraged sustained collaboration in preventing crime and creating a safe and secure environment for all residents.

Speaking during the ceremony, Her Worship the Mayor of Swakopmund , Councillor Suamma Kautondokwa reaffirmed the Municipality's commitment to supporting law enforcement through strategic investments that enhance public safety and community well-being. The Mayor noted that community safety remains a shared responsibility and that continued cooperation between the Municipality and the Namibian Police Force is essential in building a safer and more prosperous Swakopmund.

The donation reflects the Municipality's recognition that effective policing requires adequate resources, strong institutional partnerships, and continuous investment in law enforcement. The additional vehicles will strengthen visible policing, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the prevention and combating of crime within Swakopmund and its surrounding areas.

The two Peugeot vehicles were officially handed over to the Erongo Regional Commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona, who received them on behalf of the Namibian Police Force, Erongo Region. The vehicles will significantly enhance police mobility, visibility, patrol operations, and emergency response capabilities and protecting the community of Swakopmund and the wider Erongo region.

In his acceptance remarks and vote of thanks, Commissioner Kupembona expressed sincere appreciation to the Swakopmund Municipality for its generous support and unwavering commitment to strengthening policing, public safety and the confidence in the work of the Namibian Police Force.

Commissioner Kupembona highlighted that the donation comes at a critical time, as the Erongo Region has experienced a shortage of traffic patrol vehicles, a challenge that has affected the Region's ability to maintain a strong law enforcement presence on the roads. He assured that the vehicles will be utilized responsibly, professionally and for the intended purpose of serving and protecting the community of Swakopmund and the wider Erongo region. He announced that the newly donated vehicles will immediately be deployed to support traffic law enforcement operations, thereby strengthening the Region's operational capacity to address road safety challenges.

He further noted that the increasing number of road traffic crashes within the Erongo Region remains a matter of serious concern. The additional vehicles will enhance police visibility, improve response times to road traffic incidents, strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws, and support ongoing road safety initiatives aimed at reducing crashes, protecting lives, and ensuring safer roads for all road users.

The Erongo Police Regional Commander, accompanied by Senior Inspector Shomongula, Inspector Namindo , Insp Kandjimi, Warrent Officer Marbod , Sgt Kalola, R/Cst Paulus , members from CCEZ Police Station and the Erongo Vocals, attended the Youth Convention at the Bible Based Church of Christ in Omatjete on 21 June 2026.

The visit followed an invitation to motivate and encourage the youth who had gathered for the convention from 19 June 2026. In his address, the Regional Commander encouraged the youth to make responsible life choices, avoid crime and substance abuse, remain focused on their education, and become positive contributors to their communities.

He further urged them to participate in Community Policing Forums and work together with the police in promoting safer communities. As part of the Erongo Police Region's social responsibility initiatives, food parcels valued at N$1,300.00, contributed by police members, were donated to the church. Additionally, the Erongo Police Women Network donated 30 sanitary pads, 10 bars of soap, and 10 tubes of toothpaste.

The visit strengthened partnerships between the police, church leaders, community members, and the youth. Police crime prevention flyers were also handed over to the church to support awareness and community safety efforts.

BRIEFING AND DEPLOYMENT OF 158 NEW ERONGO NAMPOL MEMBERS

The Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) in the Erongo Region officially welcomed and deployed 158 newly recruited police officers to various police stations across the region during a special briefing session led by the Erongo Regional Commander, Commissioner N.K. Kupembona.

The deployment ceremony marked an important milestone in strengthening law enforcement and enhancing public safety in the Erongo Region. The newly recruited members gathered for a comprehensive briefing before being assigned to different stations where they are expected to serve and protect communities with professionalism, commitment, and discipline.

During his address, Commissioner Kupembona encouraged the officers to uphold the values and principles of the Namibian Police Force by carrying out their duties with integrity, honesty, and respect for the public. He reminded the members that being a police officer is a calling that demands dedication, sacrifice, and responsibility toward maintaining peace and stability in society.

The Regional Commander also spoke extensively on the importance of discipline, teamwork, and professionalism in policing. He urged the newly deployed officers to remain focused, avoid misconduct, and always act in the best interests of the communities they will be serving. According to Commissioner Kupembona, the police uniform carries great responsibility and officers must always strive to be role models in society.

Furthermore, the Commissioner emphasized the need for strong relationships between police officers and community members. He encouraged the officers to work closely with residents, local leaders, and stakeholders in combating crime and ensuring safer communities across the region. BuildingPartnerships, he noted, remains one of the key pillars in successful policing.

The deployment of the 158 new officers is expected to strengthen policing capacity in towns and settlements across Erongo, helping to improve visibility, response times, crime prevention efforts, and public confidence in law enforcement.

As the officers begin their new journey in different stations, the Erongo Regional Command expressed confidence that the newly deployed members will contribute positively to maintaining law and order while serving the nation with pride and commitment.

“Serve with discipline, protect with honour, and uphold the trust of the Namibian people,” was the strong message echoed during the briefing and deployment session.
