ILLEGAL STRUCTURES AND OTHER FORMS OF UNAPPROVED BUILDING DEVELOPMENTS MUST STOP

My attention has been drawn to the unfortunate collapse of a building on Thursday, 16th July 2026, at about 6:30 p.m. at Uburu general park (New market Uburu). The building, reportedly owned by a man popularly known as Mr. Idika Ocha, is a one-storey structure under construction beneath a high-tension power line. While the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, I am pleased to note that no life was lost, although one person sustained injuries. It was further observed that the ground floor of the building was already being used for commercial activities, while the upper floor behind the ground floor under construction was the section that collapsed.

Consequently, all construction, renovation, business activities, and public access to the affected building are hereby suspended until a comprehensive structural assessment is carried out by the appropriate authorities. The building has been officially sealed pending the outcome of investigations, and occupants are directed to vacate the premises immediately to enable a thorough examination of the structure, construction materials, and compliance with approved building standards. Furthermore, all individuals, groups, and organizations with structures located beneath or dangerously close to high-tension power lines are advised to remove such structures without delay and give 3 meters away from the high-tension power line, as government will enforce compliance with existing regulations where necessary. Members of the public are encouraged to report any illegal or unsafe developments that pose risks to lives and property.

On behalf of the Ohaozara Development Centre, I warmly felicitate with the good people of Ohaozara, Ebonyi State, and Nigerians at large on the occasion of Democracy Day.

Today, we celebrate the enduring spirit of democracy, the sacrifices of our founding heroes, and the collective commitment of our people to the ideals of freedom, justice, equity, and good governance. Democracy remains the foundation upon which we build a stronger, more united, and prosperous nation.

On behalf of the management, staff and good people of Ohaozara Development Centre, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, on the occasion of your 3rd Anniversary in office. Your administration has continued to demonstrate commitment to the growth, peace, and development of Ebonyi State through impactful leadership and people-oriented governance.
