NATIONAL ORIENTATION AGENCY (NOA) EBONYI STATE DIRECTORATE ENGAGES THE STUDENTS OF EASTERN OAK COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCE ON NATION BUILDING THROUGH NURSING PRACTICE

In strategic bid to achieve NOAs mandate of civic education, value re-orientation and mass mobilization, National Orientation Agency, Ebonyi State Directorate have educated the Students of Eastern Oak College of Nursing Science (EOCNS) on their professions contribution in Nation Building during their 2026 students week.

The Ag. State Director, Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu N. stated that no nation can develop without her citizens contribution. Stating that citizens are the major pillars of development making their contributions from their different professions.

Mrs. Okogwu Chinyere stated that Nation-building is very important because it focuses more on the people, building institutions not only infrastructure, which turns the population into a unified community with a shared sense of purpose and identity.

The Ag. State Director while delivering the lecture on the topic Nation Building Through Nursing Practice stated that nurses are very important and have a big role to play in nation building as the nursing practice is the backbone of the country's healthcare system and driving socioeconomic development. She noted that because healthcare is intrinsically linked to productivity, economic growth, and social stability, the contributions and systemic reforms of Nigerian nurses directly impact the progress of the nation Nigeria.

The Ag. State Director who was represented by Mrs. Egwu Vera Nnenna, the Deputy Director Values, Civic and Democracy stated that nation building cannot easily take place without citizens imbibing National Core Values which guards citizens’ behaviours and actions on daily basis with their dealings and interactions with the people of which nurses are not exempted, she listed and explained those core values to include: Discipline, Duty of Care, Tolerance & Respect, Leadership, Transparency/Accountability, Environmental Awareness, Resilience, Self-Reliance.

Mrs. Vera therefore, emphasized that nursing practice can contribute to nation building in Nigeria through strengthened human capital, driving primary healthcare delivery and implementing reforms. She mentioned areas through which nursing practice can contribute to nation building to include; Nurses are the backbone of health care management, reduction of mortality rate, nurses execute policies, they have global value, job creation, they attract foreign exchange to the country.

She concluded by urging them to ensure after their graduation and induction as a registered Nigeria nurses that they stay behind and contribute to building our Nation Nigeria instead of moving to other countries in search of greener pastures.

NATIONAL ORIENTATION AGENCY, EBONYI STATE DIRECTORATE TRAINS THE MEDIA ON THEIR ROLE DURING THE FORTHCOMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN EBONYI STATE COME AUGUST 22ND 2026

As part of its mandate of civic education and voter sensitization, the Ebonyi State Directorate of NOA trained the staff of Radio Nigeria 101.5 Unity FM, Abakaliki on the role of media on the election day during the forthcoming Local Government Council elections. The enlightenment was aimed at ensuring that media professionally understand their responsibility in promoting credible, inclusive, free, fair and violence free elections come 22nd August, 2026 in Ebonyi State.

The Ag. Director of the Directorate Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna in her speech, stated that media occupies a major strategic position in electioneering processes including before, during and after elections. Thus, the need to be grounded on their responsibilities as the voice of the citizen saddled with the responsibility of informing not inflaming, report fact not rumors and promote peace without panic.

Mrs. Okogwu Chineyere went further to enumerate the role of media on the election day to includes:
* Mobilization of Voters: This she said can be achieved by reminding the citizens using different local languages on the election day to come out and vote
* Real time reporting: Live update is expected from the media especially reporting the current situations, voters turn out, voter apathy, time of arrival of the electoral materials etc.
* Monitoring/watchdog: Media is the watchdog of voters. So, they are to monitor electoral materials distribution; report – vote buying if any; any attempt of forging election results, snatching of ballot papers/ or boxes, and disenfranchisement/ denial of qualified voters from accessing polling unit or voting materials.
* Reporting style: Mrs. Okogwu said the media should fact check news before reporting. Verifying news before reporting is a sign of professionalism in the media.
* Giving voice to the people: This can be achieved by softly getting feedback from the voters by asking them jokey questions to know how they are faring about the conduct of the elections
* Neutrality: It is not professional to see a media campaigning for specific candidates or political party, rather they should remain impartial and patriotic.
* Promoting peace: She recommendable that the media should air messages that will promote peace and not violence.

The Ag. Director finally stated that media contributes to guaranteeing free and fair elections in terms of information dissemination to the public. She said “for democracy to work, media MUST be fair, factual and free not to spread fake news or take sides because it may mar the election thereby discouraging citizens in partaking in electioneering processes”

In addition, the Deputy Programmes of the Directorate Barr. Mrs. Amah Theresa Okwudili informed the staff of the Radio station to be aware that all eyes and ears of citizens especially the voters and politicians are on them to see and hear every single information that is aired. Barr. Theresa advised them to always collect, analyze, watch, vet before reporting properly any information at their disposal to ensure the sustenance of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

The Commissioner in charge of Information, Voter Education and Publicity of Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), Hon. Chief Collins Agbo stated that the role of media is not only restricted to the election day since electioneering involves processes that leads to the free and transparent conduct of the elections.
Hon. Collins also said that the way media reports the pre and post elections shapes the elections either for good or bad. So, media should be ethical in their reportage. Chief Agbo advised the media to always place the interest of the public above political parties in any elections for the safety of citizens and for the credible conduct of elections.

In his closing remarks, the General Manager of the Station, Chief Unya Efor appreciated the critical stakeholders for the sensitization, stating that the sensitization came at the right time and promised on behalf of the staff to abide by it in ensuring that this forthcoming Local Government elections in the state is covered and reported by her radio station.

The Ag. Director NOA, Ebonyi State Directorate Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna have advised the women on the need for urgent restoration of family values for national development.

Mrs. Okogwu made this known while engaging the women of Uregwu village in Okposhi Eshi Community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area during their 2026 women August meeting. Mrs. Okogwu stated that the problem of the world today our dear Nation Nigeria inclusive originated from the family. She stated that parents no longer teach their children positive family values of honesty, respect for elders, integrity, fairness, responsibility, empathy, loyalty, financial discipline, hard work, education, community service, etc. hence they go out to the society and start exhibiting negative behaviours thereby creating problems in the society.

The Ag. State Director who was represented by Mr. Samuel Okabe E. explained said wrong family values leads to wrong belief, laziness, corruption, get-rich-quick syndrome, examination malpractices, shortcuts to achieving greatness, etc. which he said has destroyed our society.

Mr. Samuel further emphasized on the signs of those that were brought without positive family values to include but not limited to:

* In the work or business places: Working or marketing without integrity
* In character: dishonesty, get-rich-quick syndrome mentality,
* In society: corruption, trafficking, exploitation, kidnapping, violence against fellow citizen, always blaming the government and or others for every problems

He stated that to have a better Nation Nigeria that all of us will be proud of anywhere, anytime in the world, parents must start from home to teach their children positive family values and ensure their children avoid bad company in order not to learn bad habit. They should also encourage their children to learn a skill, be honest and dedicated to anything they are doing; for married women, be industrious and submissive; for workers and business persons, employ integrity and handwork. Mr. Samuel said these will help to restore hope and lead back to greatness as a Nation.

In acceptance speech, the women leader of the Organization Mrs. Elom Chinyere commended NOA’s all-time sensitization of citizens on behavioral change ethics, stating that the sensitization was timely, educative and inspiring having opened their eyes to some certain things as parents. She stated that women spend more time with the children especially at their formative stage hence the need for women to understand that they have a big role to play in raising responsible citizens of Nigeria.

Also, Mrs. Chidi Omogo, the matron of the association acknowledged the impact of NOA in the society and equally stated that the sensitization has rekindled values and responsibility as mothers and nation builders. Mrs. Chidi on behalf of the participants pledge to step down the message in their homes and churches.

NATIONAL ORIENTATION AGENCY, NOA EBONYI STATE DIRECTORATE PARTICIPATES IN STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT PREPARATORY FOR THE FORTHCOMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA ELECTIONS IN EBONYI STATE, ORGANIZED BY EBONYI STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (EBSIEC)

In a bid to achieve NOA’s mandate of mass mobilization, civic education, and value re-orientation, National Orientation Agency, Ebonyi Directorate honoured the invitation of the EBSIEC to a stakeholder’s engagement. The meeting was convened in preparation for the forthcoming Local Government Area (LGA) Elections in the 13 LGAs of the State, with the purpose of briefing the stakeholders on the commission’s preparation, readiness, plans and to seek collaboration, contributions, partnership, guidance all geared towards achieving peaceful, credible and inclusive elections.

In attendance were the chairman and commissioners of the commission, registered political parties executives, traditional rulers, security agencies, civil society organizations, the media, State MDAs, executives of the association of people with disabilities. NOA led by the Ag. Director Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna, others are representatives of INEC, ALGON, Hausa and Yoruba Communities Executives etc.

Briefing the stakeholders, one of the commissioners of the commission in charge of Logistics and Field Operations, Dr. Hycient Nwoba stated that the commission is saddled with the responsibilities of conducting free, fair and credible elections. Dr. Nwoba stated that all materials needed for the elections are ready and available.

The commissioner in charge of Legal and Security Barr. Stanley Odanwu reminded the political parties to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the elections which are already established.

Dr. Irem Okechukwu Stanley, the Commission’s Commissioner in charge of Administration, and General Services stated that the commission has set dates to train all the commissioners and the entire staff of the commission for the efficient delivery and solicited for stakeholder’s cooperation.
Hon. Chief Collins Agbo, the Commissioner in charge of Information, Voter Education and Publicity stated that the commission in partnership with NOA Ebonyi State Directorate had visited all the 13 LGAs in the state primarily for sensitization, all the media houses in the state. He solicited for the cooperation of the stakeholders especially NOA in sensitizing eligible voters across all the communities to come out enemas on 22nd August the election day by 7:30am to cast their votes.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Barr. Enyi Patrick described the presence of the stakeholders as a demonstration of commitment to democracy, peace and the growth of governance at the grassroots level in the state. He acknowledged that state elections are not the business of EBSIEC alone rather, collective responsibility and solicited cooperation from the stakeholders in ensuring free, credible and peaceful elections. He extended his appreciation to the governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who in his good leadership quality provided all logistics required for the forthcoming LGAs council elections. The Commission Chairman also notified the stakeholders that capacity building workshops for commissioners and staff of EBIEC, recruitment and training of ad-hock staff will commence on Monday, 3rd August. All these he said are to ensure free, fair, credible and transparent elections is conducted to reflect Commission’s vision and mission statement and solicited that the commission runs open government and ever ready to welcome any suggestion and contribution that will make the commission improve.

In her speech, the Ag. Director of NOA, Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna stated that election participation are a civic duty and the Agency’s involvement is to ensure that citizens actively participate and perform their civic responsibility. Mrs. Okogwu Chinyere stated that as an Agency saddled with responsibilities of mass mobilization, civic education, and value re-orientation, NOA has been on ground across all the LGAs and Communities sensitizing eligible voters on the need to actively participate in the electoral processes such as voter registration, collection of PVC and coming out to vote on the election day. The Ag. Director, on behalf of the Agency pledged more effort in statewide voter education, peace campaign against violence, hate speech and vote buying. The NOA Head leveraged on the stakeholder’s engagement to advice the commission to make their contribution towards ensuring the actualization of a new Nigeria by conducting free, fair and credible LGA elections in the state.

In a closing remarks, the commissions Secretary Dr. Uguru Fidelis Nwele appreciated the stakeholders for honouring the invitation.

NATIONAL ORIENTATION AGENCY, NOA EBONYI STATE ENJOINED THE PEOPLE TO SHUN CYBER BULLYING AND HATE SPEECH

The National Orientation Agency, NOA Ebonyi State Directorate, has advised the people to shun hate cyber bullying and hate speech. The State Director, Pastor Mrs Chinyere Okogwu made this statement while speaking in a radio phone-in programme held Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation, EBBC on the topic CYBER BULLYING AND HATE SPEECH, A THREAT TO NATIONAL UNITY.

The NOA State Director represented by the Deputy Director, Values, Civic and Democracy Education, Mrs Egwu Nnenna Vera and HOD Planning Research and Strategies, Mr Nwokoro Okechukwu made the public to understand that Cyber bullying is a deliberate and repeated use of digital or electronic technologies such as social media, phones, text messages, emails, online forums or websites to harass, embarrass, threaten, intimidate and harm another.

Where as hate speech on the other hand refers to any form of communication that attacks, insults, threatens or incite hatred, discrimination or violence against an individual or group of persons based on ethnicity, religion, race, nationality, gender, envy or political affiliation.

The team further affirmed that Cyber bullying and hate speech have become a major challenge to national unity in this digital era due to wide spread use of social media, messaging apps and other online platforms.

The NOA team emphasized that while these technologies promote communication and exchange of ideas, they have also been misused to spread abuse, intimidations, false information, and messages that incites hatred against individuals or group of persons: a practice that pose a serious threat to national unity, peace and development of our country Nigeria.

NOA called for collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, government institutions, media organizations and law enforcement agencies to combat cyber bullying and hate speech in the society.

Callers praised NOA for bringing up such important issues and called for more legislations against cyber bullying and hate speech. They urge politicians to shun act that are capable of generating cyber bullying and hate speech.

The National Orientation Agency in her duty of ensuring that the Nigeria citizens are patriotic and responsible introduced the “Value to Campus” programme aimed at ensuring that Nigerian students in the tertiary institutions imbibe the correct values. On this note, the Ag. Director of Ebonyi State Directorate, Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna led her management team to Eastern Oak School of Nursing Sciences, Abakaliki.

In her speech, Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu disclosed that the purpose for the visit was to introduce the “Value to Campus” programme to the school management for their buy-in and mobilise their students for the programme on the date to be agreed. She said the collaboration will also enlighten the management and students of the school on other government policies and programmes that will ignite the spirit of patriotism and professional ethics. The Ag. Director stated that the Agency will also conscientise the students on the need to get prepared for community services as nursing profession is a pure humanitarian work.

The NOA head in Ebonyi State also, stated that giving nursing students orientation especially on National Values, Civic Responsibilities and Code of Conduct is significant and strategic because as young people, it will prepare them to become better citizens in future. She requested the school management to choose a date when NOA team will come back to interface with the students.

In her response, the Provost of the college, Mrs. Anthonia Arua welcomed the NOA team and expressed willingness to partner with the Agency in ensuring that accurate civic responsibilities and value orientation are inculcated to the future nurses of the college.

In addition, the college provost stated that the college is saddled with the responsibility of training future nurses and midwiferies. Mrs. Arua acknowledged the impact of NOA in the society in awareness creation with prompt dissemination of government policies and prgrammes to the grassroots.

The college head promised to involve the Agency in all their activities to cement the partnership.

NATIONAL ORIENTATION AGENCY, NOA, EBONYI STATE DIRECTORATE DEEPENS PARTINERSHIP WITH EBONYI STATE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (EBSPHCDA) ON PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT FOR HEALTH PROGRAMMES

In line with NOA’s mandate of grassroots mobilization for government policies and programmes, a delegation from the NOA, Ebonyi State Directorate led by the Ag. State Director, Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna seek the EBSPHCDA’s collaboration and partnership to ensure health messages gets to the grassroots.

Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu during the Agency’s visit to the EBSPHCDA office, stated that the visit seeks collaboration and partnership in the areas of public enlightenment for maternal and child care, routine immunization and community mobilization because the biggest barrier to health is not lack of facilities nor manpower but wrong beliefs, myths and lack of information.
The Directorate Head commended the EBSPHCDA for improving access to quality health care at grassroots and can do more through the campaign “Say No To Home Delivery, Immunizations Saves Lives” which National Orientation Agency can be of immense help in achieving through the help of our field officers – the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers (COMOs) deployed across the rural areas of the 13 Local Government Areas and Development Centers in the State. She said the COMOs delivers their messages in local dialect through interface with the people at the grassroots.

Mrs. Okogwu requested that health attendants in various health centers be given orientation on the need for quick referral of patients to the tertiary health facilities whenever the need arises instead of trying to manage health cases that are beyond them.

In his acceptance speech, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Emeka Philips Ovuoba stated that the Agency’s biggest challenge is not just providing services but getting our people to believe in and use those services. Dr. Ovuoba said the partnership came at the right time and that NOA has the structure, the voice, and the trust of the people at the grassroots. The EBSPHCDA boss accepted to work more closely with NOA to ensure the people especially those at the grassroots are reached with the correct health messages so that they will start accessing and using the nearest health facility to them.

The people of Afikpo Local Government Area has been charged to ensure they perform one of their civic responsibilities by ensuring they come out to vote during the forthcoming Local Government Area election in the state. The National Orientation Agency, NOA Ebonyi State Directorate made this known during stakeholders engagement in preparation for the LGA election coming up very soon in the state. Speaking during the stakeholders’ engagement, the Ag. State Director of NOA, Pastor Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu said that part of our duties as citizen is to ensure we vote during elections as far as you have attained the voting age of 18 years. The NOA Ebonyi State boss who was represented by the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officer, COMO in-charge of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Agha Oko Egwu enjoined political parties to play by the rules and shun violence before, during and after the election.

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Ebonyi State Directorate seeks stronger cooperation, synergy and partnership with media houses in the State.

The Ag. Director of the Agency in the State Directorate, Pst. Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu Nnenna made this known as she led the management team to a radio station, Glorious FM 88.3MHz, Abakaliki.

Mrs. Okogwu in her address stated that there is need for media houses in their broadcast content to prioritize programmes on patriotism, civic responsibility, anti-corruption, national values and value reorientation, nation building, curbing social issues, peace building, entrepreneurship, economic orientations, national unity, security, health among others.

She however solicited the full cooperation and partnership from the radio station in making sure that government policies and programmes are aired in their station to enlighten and sensitizes the citizens.

Speaking, the General Manager of the FM radio station, Mr. Roy Ukwuoma on behalf of the management, pledged total support of the Agency in her efforts to ensure Ebonyians and beyond are made to be abreast with government policies, programmes and activities. The General Manager stated the partnership with the Agency will align public enlightenment with citizen’s needs and assured the Agency that their platform is open and readily available.

Other top management staff in the Agency’s team are Deputy Director Programmes, Bar. Mrs. Ama-Nnachi Theresa and Deputy Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Mbam Simon.

EBONYIANS URGED TO SHUN ELECTORAL VIOLENCE, ADHERE TO ELECTORAL RULES AND GUIDELINES

Ebonyians have been urged to shun all forms of electoral violence, adhere to electoral rules and guidelines during the upcoming local government area elections in the state. The Ag. State Director of National Orientation Agency, NOA Ebonyi State, Pastor Mrs. Chinyere Okogwu made this known while speaking during the sensitization programme on voter education at Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

The NOA Ebonyi State boss urged citizens to actively participate in the local government election by coming out in large numbers to cast their vote. Mrs. Okogwu represented by the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officer, COMO in-charge of Ishielu Local Government Area, Mr. Donald Ndubuisi Agwu enjoined political parties and supporters to campaign peacefully, shun intimidation and vote buying during the local government area elections. The NOA charged Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) to ensure a level playing ground for all the political parties taking part in the election.
