ON THE SPOT INSPECTION OF FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS IN LAGOS STATE BY THE HON. MINISTER, FMWR&S WITH THE MD/CEO, O-ORBDA AND OFFICIALS OF LAGOS STATE.
The Managing Director/CEO, O-ORBDA, Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru joined the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev, alongside officials of the Lagos State Government on an on-the-spot inspection of communities affected by flooding across Lagos State. The visit is part of the ongoing intervention efforts of the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to proffer lasting solutions to the recurrent flooding challenges in Lagos. During the inspection, the team assessed the extent of damage to homes, infrastructure, and drainage systems, with particular attention to low-lying areas, flood plains, and coastal communities that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. The team also engaged stakeholders on strengthening early warning systems, desilting of drainage channels, enforcement of building regulations on waterways, and investment in climate-resilient infrastructure to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
During the inspection tour, the team visited the Ilubirin Mechanical Pumping Station on Lagos Island; the Signal Barracks Primary Drainage Channel at Ajegunle; the System 5 Drainage Channel at Apapa-Iganmu; the Ilo-Awela River at Alimosho; a Public Toilet to End Open Defecation at Orile-Iganmu and Orombo River off the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Corridor.
