ON THE SPOT INSPECTION OF FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS IN LAGOS STATE BY THE HON. MINISTER, FMWR&S WITH THE MD/CEO, O-ORBDA AND OFFICIALS OF LAGOS STATE.

The Managing Director/CEO, O-ORBDA, Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru joined the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev, alongside officials of the Lagos State Government on an on-the-spot inspection of communities affected by flooding across Lagos State. The visit is part of the ongoing intervention efforts of the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to proffer lasting solutions to the recurrent flooding challenges in Lagos. During the inspection, the team assessed the extent of damage to homes, infrastructure, and drainage systems, with particular attention to low-lying areas, flood plains, and coastal communities that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. The team also engaged stakeholders on strengthening early warning systems, desilting of drainage channels, enforcement of building regulations on waterways, and investment in climate-resilient infrastructure to safeguard lives and livelihoods.

During the inspection tour, the team visited the Ilubirin Mechanical Pumping Station on Lagos Island; the Signal Barracks Primary Drainage Channel at Ajegunle; the System 5 Drainage Channel at Apapa-Iganmu; the Ilo-Awela River at Alimosho; a Public Toilet to End Open Defecation at Orile-Iganmu and Orombo River off the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Corridor.

The Managing Director/CEO, O-ORBDA, Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru in the company of the Hon. Minister, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

The Managing Director in his statement said the visit centered on strategic discussions centered on the increasing impact of climate change on coastal cities, and the urgent need to address the persistent flooding experienced across Lagos State. "We reviewed the vulnerabilities of low-lying and flood-plain communities, the pressure on drainage infrastructure, and the importance of sustainable urban planning. We also deliberated on Federal Government interventions under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aimed at supporting the Lagos State Government with flood control, early warning systems, and long-term resilience measures to protect lives, livelihoods and property".

Today marks my 2nd year in office since my appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority.

I give all glory to God for His faithfulness, guidance, and grace over the past 24 months. It has been a period of dedication, hard work, and measurable impact across our mandate states: Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, and Osun.

Her are some key achievements in the last 2 years:

🚜 16 tractors deployed, 60 more procured
🌱 100+ greenhouses built, 200 more procured
💦 12 irrigation dams: 4 completed, 8 ongoing
⚡ 50ha+ sprinklers, 10km+ roads, 25km+drainage
✅200 Graduates of Youth Empowerment Program
☘️over 5,000ha of cultivated land
🦭construction of Poultry pen houses
👩‍🌾 200+ farmers empowered
👩‍💻 1000+ youths & women empowered with tools, machines, laptops
🐟 Songhai model farm + 20,000 fingerlings stocked
⚡ Ikere Gorge Dam concessioned for 250MW hydropower
✅ Installation of over 10,000 solar street light

ASHIRU AFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR IKERE HYDRO POWER CONCESSION

The Managing Director/CEO, O-ORBDA, Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru, FNSE, FNIMechE, FNIWE has assured the Management of Ouaint Power Infrastructure Limited of the Authority's maximum support at ensuring that the Ikere Gorge Dam hydro power generation is a success.

The Managing Director gave this assurance while receiving the Management team of the concessionaire company at the Authority's Headquarters on Wednesday, 6th May, 2026.

Ashiru said the Authority as the organisation that constructed the Dam, has lots of inputs to make towards the success of the project.

According to him, part of the benefits includes access to wealth of experience of over thirty - seven COREN registered engineers in the Authority towards achieving success on the project.

Ashiru however requested that the Authority should be engaged and involved in the processes of the detailed design and construction works at the site regularly.

The MD/CEO who commended the team for the visit, said he has no doubt that the organisation is capable of achieving success on the project looking at the company wealth of experience.

In their contribution, the Executive Director, Agric Services, Hon. Akeem Omoyele Oris, seek the assistant of the company to use its wealth of experience in the field of solar powered generation to assist the Authority in solving it's epileptic power problem, while the Executive Director, Engineering, Hon. Oluwakayode Sowade said the visit was timely and essential for the success of the contract.

Earlier, the Managing Director, Quaint Power and Infrastructure Limited, Mobolaji Durodola said the team is at the Authority's headquarters to seek synergy for the successful completion of the hydro power generation at Ikere Gorge Dam knowing fully well the importance of the Authority to the success of the job.

He therefore called for a cordial working relationship with the Authority and promised that his organisation has considered the Authority as part of the communities to benefit in its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts during the contract.

The Managing Director who seized the opportunity to highlight various similar projects the organisation has executed in the country, said the Ikere Gorge Dam contract is paramount to his organisation because of its uniqueness.

He also called for inauguration of a working team comprising of members from both organisations in order to ensure active and smooth working relationship on the contract.

The meeting had in attendance the officials of both the Authority and the concessionaire company.
