ABIA COMMAND APPREHENDS 17 CULTIST ASSURES NO RESTING PLACE FOR CULTISM AND OTHER CRIMES

SUSPECTS
1.Seventeen (17) male suspects, aged between 18 and 28 years.

Exhibits Recovered:
1.Five (5) short guns
2.Three (3) live ammunition
3.Thirteen (13) mobile phones of different makes
4.Two (2) cutlasses
5.One (1) axe
6.One (1) black beret

Facts of the Case:
1. Following the recent upsurge in cult-related activities in the State, including the attack on 13/05/2026 at No. 29 Brass Road, Aba, where a young man was shot and macheted to death by a group of suspected cultists; and the attack on 24/05/2026 at Ehere, near Opobo Junction, where another young man was shot by suspected cultists

2. The Abia State Police Command, leveraging on actionable intelligence, took the fight to the criminals. Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) successfully apprehended seventeen (17) suspected cultists linked to the aforementioned incidents in Aba, Abia State.

3. The suspects were arrested at their various meeting points and while en route to perpetrate further crimes and the above-listed exhibits were recovered from them. Investigation has been concluded and the suspects are being charged to court.

4. The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to its constitutional duties of protecting lives and property, as well as preventing and detecting crime in the state. He assures Abians that there will be no hiding place for cultism and other criminal activities in the State.

5. While the Command continues its awareness campaign through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) unit in schools and communities, members of the public are advised to partner with the Police by reporting any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines:👇

ABIA POLICE COMMAND SUSTAINS PEACE AND SECURITY DURING ONGOING PARTY PRIMARIES

1. In line with the ongoing primary elections across the State, the Abia State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace, law and order in all political parties' primaries while remaining non-partisan, and this follows the earlier engagement of the command with members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), before the primaries, during which political stakeholders were advised to conduct their affairs peacefully and in accordance with the extant laws.

2. Adequate security measures and strategies have been emplaced to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

3. Today, 30/05/2026, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, personally led a confidence-building and security monitoring team across key Labor party primary election venues in both Umuahia and Aba, just as he did for other parties that have had their primaries.The team visited the following locations: Labour Party Secretariat, Ndume Primary School, World Bank Area, Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, School of Health Technology, Ngwa Road, Girls Secondary School, Asa Road and Cemetery Market Area Aba

4. The monitoring was aimed at assessing the security situation, reassuring residents and political stakeholders of a peaceful and safe environment. The Commissioner of Police reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and the maintenance of law and order throughout the State.

ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY ATTEMPTED CHILD STEALING AND POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED HARD DRUGS

SUSPECTS
1.Nzubechi Chinagorom, male, 24 years, of Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA.

2.Chinonso Chibundu, male, 25 years, of Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA.

FACTS OF THE CASE
1. Leveraging on actionable intelligence, officers of the Abia State Police Command, in collaboration with the Olokoro Community Vigilante, apprehended the above mentioned suspects.

2. On 25/05/2026, the suspects went to the residence of one Miss Amarachi Chinyereugo, female, 32 years, of same address. Nzubechi Chinagorom attempted to forcibly take away her 2-week-old baby girl, which resulted in a struggle with the mother. In the process, he assaulted her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, causing the child to fall and hit her head.

3. Meanwhile, Chinonso Chibundu remained outside the house, acting as a lookout. Following the victim’s distress call, both suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended at a nearby bus stop, where they were reportedly found taking substances suspected to be hard drugs.

4. The mother and child were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they received treatment and have since recovered. The suspects were apprehended, exhibits were recovered and investigation has been conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), suspects will be charged to court on 2/06/2026

5. The Abia State Police Command reiterates its commitment to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property. Today, 29th May 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, was present at the grand finale of the Abia State Government’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration and Parade, held at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Also in attendance were Service Chiefs of sister security agencies, political leaders, youth groups, community leaders, and traditional rulers across the State.

The occasion featured a colourful parade by the Abia State Police Command, showcasing, professionalism, gallantry, coordination and discipline of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP ABIA CELEBRATES CHILDREN’S DAY WITH POLICE CHILDREN; URGES DISCIPLINE AND EXCELLENCE

1. Yesterday, 27/05/2026, The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, joined dignitaries, educators, and students at the Umuahia Stadium to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day celebration.The event featured a colourful and well-organized march past, led by the Police Children School, followed by other participating schools, showcasing discipline, unity and youthful enthusiasm.

2. As part of the celebration, the Command, in collaboration with the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), hosted children’s parties in Umuahia and Aba respectively. The events brought together pupils of the Police Children School and children of police personnel.

3. The celebrations combined fun with learning, featuring:A sensitization talk on the dangers of cultism and social vices by ASP Ekenta Blessing, Coordinator, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV). A health awareness session by the Officer-in-Charge, Medical, Abia State Command, ACP Chineye Emenike, who emphasized the importance of regular exercise and healthy living, Recreational activities such as music, dance, cultural displays, recitations, competitions and interactive games.

4. The CP, in his address, advised the children to remain obedient, disciplined and focused on their education. He urged them to respect their parents and teachers, noting that these values are essential in shaping them into future leaders such as Inspector-Generals of Police, Presidents, Governors and other prominent figures in the society.

5. The CP expressed gratitude to the Head Teacher, staff of the Police Children School and parents for their commitment in nurturing the children.The event ended with the presentation of gifts by the CP and the distribution of refreshments followed by group photography.
