PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release:
August 3, 2026
DISCLAIMER ON THE FALSE CLAIM OF BEING THE GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE OF THE AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC), ABIA STATE
The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State Chapter, has been drawn to the continued public representation by Barr. Kalu Kalu as the Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State.
The party categorically states that Barr. Kalu Kalu is not authorized by the Abia ADC to present himself or hold himself out to the public as the Governorship Candidate of the party. Accordingly, members of the public are advised to disregard every such representation.
For the avoidance of doubt, this disclaimer is necessitated by the subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Don Norman Obinna & 6 Ors v. African Democratic Congress & 6 Ors, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/581/2026, which was affirmed by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in Don Norman Obinna & 6 Ors v. African Democratic Congress & 6 Ors, Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/608/2026. The Court of Appeal affirmed the order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the state congresses conducted by the David Mark-led leadership of the party. As of 3 August 2026, that judgment remains valid, subsisting, and binding, having not been set aside by the Supreme Court.
The party’s position is that any continued claim founded on the processes affected by those subsisting judgments is inconsistent with the existing orders of the courts. Abia ADC, therefore calls on every person to respect and comply with those judgments unless and until they are set aside by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Accordingly, Abia ADC State Working Committee, advises party members, government institutions, security agencies, the media, and the general public not to recognize, deal with, or engage Barr. Kalu Kalu in the capacity of the Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State.
The party further urges unsuspecting members of the public to exercise the utmost caution and not to pay, donate, contribute, or release any money or other valuable consideration to any person presenting himself as the Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State, without first verifying such representation through the duly recognized leadership of the party. The party shall not accept responsibility for any loss or inconvenience arising from reliance on unauthorized representations.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State, remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to uphold the authority of valid and subsisting court judgments while protecting the integrity of its constitutional structures and processes.
E-Signed:
Lady Chiamaka Ohaja
Publicity Secretary,
African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State.
