Merry Christmas from the At-Risk Children Programme. #HappyHolidays
Visit to Bulumkutu Intervention Centre, Borno State by the ARC-P team.
#FlashbackFriday : Visit to the Bulumkutu Intervention Centre, under the management of the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs, by the ARC-P team led by Maryam Uwais MFR, Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, during a Scoping Mission to Borno State on the 11th-12th February 2021.
The centre is a full boarding facility accommodating both male and female vulnerable children - including children from IDPs - with no immediate family or caregivers. Also being catered for at the centre are women who have been victims of gender-based violence, and others with mental health challenges. It has received support from UN agencies like UNICEF.
Bulumkutu Intervention Centre has the capacity for 1,000 residents, but currently houses only 96. With support from the Federal Government through the At-Risk Children Project (ARC-P), the Borno subnational government will be able to cater to more beneficiaries in the centre and other centres, while equipping them with literacy and numeracy skills, as well as sports, vocational and agricultural skills with the aim of empowering and reintegrating them into the society after a rehabilitation period.
