AT-RISK CHILDREN PROGRAMME (ARC-P) Sokoko has flagged off the distribution of livestock (1,500 goats) to the most supportive parents/guardians of the children beneficiaries enrolled in the programme drawn from the 23 local government areas in the state.

The distribution of the goats provided by the ARC-P National Office in Abuja was flagged off by Alh. Idris Muhammad Gobir, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, who was represented by Hon. Saidu Ibrahim Nairobi, at the ARC-P Sokoto State Office.

Yesterday, April 26, 2023, the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments headed by Maryam Uwais MFR, commenced a 3-Day training on the At-Risk Children Programme Management Information System (ARC-P MIS) for State Leads and their teams.

The ARC-P MIS is a software developed by our Technical Management Office for the collection, harmonization and verification of beneficiary data.
It will also be used by Youth Facilitators to send in monthly reports.

The event was flagged off by Maryam Uwais herself.

Day One witnessed the signing of a Memorandum-of-Understanding (MoU) between OSAP-SI and Anambra State on the operational modalities of ARC-P in Anambra State.

that last month, May 2022, Gates Foundation () announced Maryam Uwais, MFR () as a member of its "Goalkeepers Advisory Group"?

On its website, succinctly summarised Maryam Uwais' profile thus: "...Special Adviser on Social Investments to Nigeria’s President, is a legal practitioner and human rights activist with over 40 years post-call law practice experience. Among many other public service activities, she has served on the State Counsel Ministry of Justice in Kano State, the Council of the National Human Rights Commission, and the African Union Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. She also supervised the Federal Government Social Investment Programmes from its start in 2015 through 2019, which impacted more than 13 million Nigerians. Maryam currently works with Nigeria’s Vice President on a project aimed at addressing concerns and deprivations relating to youth and children at-risk (ARC-P)."

Mrs Uwais is not new to international recognition for her contribution to the development and impactful implementation of social intervention initiatives in Nigeria. Recall that on 23-24 September, 2019 in New York during the Sustainable Development Impact Summit of 2019 at the World Economic Forum, she was recognized with an award as a Public-Social Entrepreneur by Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship ().

For 3 weeks between May 30 - June 17, 2022, about 650 Youth Facilitators drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, were empowered with knowledge and skills subsumed under the Seven Pillars of the At-Risk Children Programme, ARC-P.

Recall that ARC-P is a Federal Government initiative facilitated by Maryam Uwais, MFR, Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, in the Office of the Vice President.

The training of the Youth Facilitators of the Kaduna State ARC-P is the next vital stage for the implementation of the programme in the state following the Stakeholders Engagement with MDAs in Kaduna on the 1st & 2nd of February, 2022.

Resource persons from various Federal & State Government Agencies, as well as developmental partners including , , UBEC, Legal Aid Council, , National Eye Centre, , Office of the SDGs, Resource & Support Hub, and more, conducted training sessions in ICT, Renewable Energy, Photography & Videography, Health & Nutrition, Leather works, Catering, Building, Welding & Fabrication, Agriculture, as well as training on Automobile Maintenance facilitated by Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Nigeria.

It is worthy to note that Kaduna is the second state after Gombe that has trained Youth Facilitators to commence the full implementation of the At-Risk Children Programme at the state level.

The event had Ministers, State Governors, Representatives of Foreign Missions; Development Partners, the Private Sector, and other significant stakeholders in attendance.

Visit to Bulumkutu Intervention Centre, Borno State by the ARC-P team.

#FlashbackFriday : Visit to the Bulumkutu Intervention Centre, under the management of the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs, by the ARC-P team led by Maryam Uwais MFR, Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, during a Scoping Mission to Borno State on the 11th-12th February 2021. The centre is a full boarding facility accommodating both male and female vulnerable children - including children from IDPs - with no immediate family or caregivers. Also being catered for at the centre are women who have been victims of gender-based violence, and others with mental health challenges. It has received support from UN agencies like UNICEF. Bulumkutu Intervention Centre has the capacity for 1,000 residents, but currently houses only 96. With support from the Federal Government through the At-Risk Children Project (ARC-P), the Borno subnational government will be able to cater to more beneficiaries in the centre and other centres, while equipping them with literacy and numeracy skills, as well as sports, vocational and agricultural skills with the aim of empowering and reintegrating them into the society after a rehabilitation period. #socialprotection #childpoverty #empowerment
