A Heartfelt Appreciation to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu for Advancing Women’s Inclusion in Ogun State Politics

Our Dear Sir, Hon. Oladipupo ADEBUTU,

The Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidate for Ogun State,

I, Prof. Adenike OGUNSHE mni, on behalf of the Entire Nigerian Women home and abroad, and in particular, the Women in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Amazons, are deeply honoured by the trust and confidence you have placed in us, believing in us, and giving us the chance to make a difference in Ogun State, and Nigeria, through the selection of one of us, Alhaja Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo, as the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate for Ogun State.

Politics is meant to shape our communities and make our society better, with significant positive differences. So, we feel deeply the adverse effects of our children and grandchildren being at home without sources of livelihood. We feel with agony, not being referred to as grandmothers, due to delays in our children getting married as at when due. With broken hearts, we struggle to mend the souls of our children, defiled without justice, in almost all instances. We nod in silent grief, in response to burial condolences concerning the fruits of our wombs. For many of us, the remains of our slain husbands, sons, and daughters would remain in our memories, mostly as we could not bid farewell to their mortal bodies. We feel it passionately when our nationals’ shoulders are dropped with lowered heads, as they could not sing the Lord’s songs in strange lands.

As PDP Women, our unwavering commitment to our great party and our dear country will not let us leave the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the State alone from now until the end of your tenure, by the special grace of God. We will daily support you in prayers, counsels, with our presence, passionate advocacy for various causes, and consistently bringing to your active attention the appropriate expectations of the good people of Ogun State.

Sir, this political gesture is not just a mere gender achievement to us, the women folks, but a call to womanhood-service with vision, courage, and unwavering devotion to the people we represent. Your confidence in our abilities means a great deal to us, and we assure you that, with every good gift that God has endowed us with, we shall play this role tirelessly, with strong sense of responsibility, passion, humility, integrity, and enduring commitment to our communities’ welfare. We shall raise awareness, give support during challenging times, make all efforts to be part of all the communities, and engage directly with the overall state constituents, such that the wonderful people of Ogun State will say:

“This is an exemplary, significant milestones-government that truly represents the people,”

and they will have just one slogan:

“O tu wa lara o, o san wa s’ire o! Igba yi o, asiko yi o, o tu wa lara o!”

The ALMIGHTY GOD, The Beginning and The End of Our Existence, We Thank You for being Our Pillar of Strength, while navigating through the protracted challenging situations in Our Dear Country Nigeria. We Thank You for giving Us the Ability to Withstand the Pains we have been Enduring. Your Steadfast Grace is Highly Commendable, even, as We Are! The Wombs are Bleeding Again, but, We, as a People, also Thank You, knowing that, You will Heal Our Land from various weaponised sieges of bloodbath, bloodshed, and corporate condolences!!

Once more, Thank you so much, Our Governorship Candidate, Sir. Hon. Oladipupo ADEBUTU, especially, for being a Peculiar Voice for Us, at a time like this. As rightly said by former President Barack Obama, “Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s the smart thing to do.” Thank you Sir, for this Smart Move, Indeed!

Thank you, Our Deputy Governorship Candidate, Alh. Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo, for Making Us Women, Proud, by Accepting this Daunting Task, knowing that, according to Teresa Wright, “Men and women are different, but if women are good enough to run homes and raise children, then their influence ought to be good for politics.”

Thank you The Leadership, Stakeholders, and Members of Our Great Party, PDP in Ogun State, for asserting that, “We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back” (Malala Yousafzai). That is, We cannot all succeed when half of us, who are the Women, are held back from occupying Positions of Responsibilities!

Doris Lessing once said, “Women often get dropped from memory, and then history.” Therefore, Thank you Ogun State, The Gateway State that did not Gatekeep against Us Women. The State with the People of Uncommon Strength and Resilience during challenging times. The People with Unshakable Stability and Hope in face of any form of adversity. The Admirable People with Dignified Cultures that Transcend Times and Seasons! The People of Testament that Has Come to Stay, Until the End of Ages!! The Invaluable People that make Nigeria incomplete without Their Signet of Heritage!!!

Thank You All, for this Opportunity to Contribute Meaningfully to the Progress of our State and Nation, as a Woman. Succinctly put by Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as Women, can accomplish.”

To Our Wonderful National Leader, HE, Nyesom Wike, who has been Standing STRONG, and with the Support of the National Executive Council, Board of Trustees, National and other Working Committees, and All Party Stakeholders, make the Survival of Our Party from Political Scavengers possible, Thank You Immensely!!!

Our Warmest regards,
