IPCR, Partners with College of Peace and Reconciliation Studies Jos, to Strengthen Peace Education, Conflict Resolution.

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has entered into a strategic partnership with the College of Peace and Reconciliation Studies, Jos, to strengthen peace education, research, capacity development and sustainable peacebuilding in Nigeria.

The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both institutions, providing a framework for collaboration in Peacebuilding, Conflict prevention and Resolution, Research, Training, knowledge exchange and Institutional development.

Speaking on the significance of the agreement, the Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, stressed the need to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical interventions in Peacebuilding.

The Director-General said strategic partnerships between specialised academic institutions and federal research institutes were essential to translating peacebuilding theories into practical frameworks capable of addressing conflicts and promoting safer communities.

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration among institutions committed to advancing peace, security and national development.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will work together on research initiatives, training programmes, knowledge sharing and other activities designed to strengthen institutional capacity and improve peacebuilding practices.

The MoU is renewable, subject to the successful achievement of its objectives.

Also speaking, the Rector of the College of Peace and Reconciliation Studies, Prof. Joseph Maren Sampson, described the partnership as an important opportunity to strengthen the institution’s academic and professional programmes.

He said the collaboration with IPCR would enrich the college’s curriculum, connect grassroots peace education with national policy and expose students to high-level research in peace and conflict studies.

The partnership is expected to open new opportunities for Students, Researchers and Peace practitioners while strengthening the link between grassroots Peace Education, evidence-based Research and National Peacebuilding Policy.

Both institutions expressed their commitment to leveraging the partnership to contribute meaningfully to conflict prevention, peacebuilding and national development in Nigeria.

IPCR Calls for Peace, Unity as Muslims Mark Eid ul Mawlid

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, tolerance and mutual understanding as Muslims across the country join others around the world to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Institute said the occasion provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his emphasis on compassion, justice, peaceful coexistence, forgiveness and respect for human dignity.

IPCR urged Muslims and Nigerians of all faiths to use the celebration to strengthen the bonds of unity and promote peaceful relationships within their families, communities and the wider society.

According to the Institute, Nigeria’s diversity remains a source of strength when managed through dialogue, mutual respect and understanding, stressing that differences in religion, ethnicity, political affiliation and other identities should never become reasons for violence or division.

The IPCR called on religious leaders to continue to use their platforms to promote messages of peace, tolerance and responsible citizenship, particularly at a time when communities across the country are confronted with social, economic and security challenges.

It also appealed to political, traditional and community leaders to demonstrate leadership by discouraging inflammatory rhetoric, hate speech and actions capable of deepening divisions or escalating tensions among citizens.

The Institute further encouraged Nigerians to embrace dialogue as the preferred means of resolving disagreements, noting that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through confrontation, violence or the exclusion of others.

IPCR emphasised the importance of extending the spirit of Eid beyond the celebration by showing compassion to the vulnerable, supporting those in need and promoting acts that strengthen social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

The Institute congratulated Muslims on the occasion and urged them to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad by promoting justice, kindness, patience, forgiveness and respect for others.

IPCR therefore called on all Nigerians to make peace a shared responsibility and work collectively towards building a united, inclusive and peaceful nation where every citizen can live with dignity, security and hope for a better future.

IPCR Urges Peaceful Osun Governorship Election, Warns Against Violence

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on political parties, governorship candidates, their supporters, security agencies, election officials and the people of Osun State to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The Institute urged all stakeholders to place the interest of Osun State above partisan considerations and ensure that political competition does not degenerate into violence, intimidation, threats or destruction of property.

IPCR particularly called on political leaders and candidates to caution their supporters against inflammatory statements, hate speech, misinformation and actions capable of escalating tensions before, during and after the election.

The Institute stressed that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, noting that political contests are temporary, while the consequences of violence can have lasting effects on individuals, families and communities.

It urged candidates and political parties to demonstrate leadership by example, respect the rules of the democratic process and resolve disputes through lawful channels. Candidates dissatisfied with the outcome should seek redress through the appropriate legal and judicial institutions rather than resorting to self-help.

The Institute also appealed to voters to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully, respect the rights of fellow citizens and resist attempts by politicians or other actors to use them as instruments of violence.

IPCR urged voters to maintain order at polling units, respect election officials and security personnel, and avoid confrontations with supporters of rival political parties. Citizens were equally advised to verify information before sharing it, particularly on social media, to prevent the spread of rumours and false reports capable of triggering violence.

The Institute called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and respectful of citizens' rights while providing adequate protection for voters, election officials and electoral materials.

It also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its officials to discharge their responsibilities transparently and impartially, ensuring that eligible voters can exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.

IPCR further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, civil society organisations and the media to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and discouraging inflammatory rhetoric.

The Institute emphasised that peaceful conduct after the election is equally important, urging both winners and losers to demonstrate maturity. While winners should be magnanimous in victory, those who lose should accept the outcome peacefully or pursue legitimate grievances through the courts.

IPCR maintained that the responsibility for a peaceful election rests with every stakeholder. It urged all parties to ensure that the ballot, rather than violence, intimidation or coercion, determines the choice of the people.

The Institute therefore called on the people of Osun State to protect the peace of their communities and demonstrate Nigeria's democratic maturity by participating peacefully in the election.

IPCR STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE MEDIA AND CIVIL SOCIETY FOR PEACE AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) strengthened its engagement with key stakeholders through separate visits by the NUJ Federal Information Chapel and Citizens Advocates for Peace is Possible in Nigeria (CAPIPIN), reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to collaboration, Peacebuilding and National Development.

During the engagement with the NUJ Federal Information Chapel, the Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, emphasized that no single institution or sector can address Nigeria’s complex challenges alone. He stressed the importance of strategic collaboration, solution-driven partnerships, citizen enlightenment and an open-door approach to achieving sustainable peace and national development.

The DG also highlighted the critical role of Nigeria’s youthful population and the need to build an enlightened, responsible and engaged citizenry capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation’s future. Discussions further explored areas of collaboration, including peacebuilding training, political tolerance initiatives and election observation activities.

Similarly, during the CAPIPIN courtesy visit, the organisation presented an award to the Director-General in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and national development.

Dr. Ochogwu commended CAPIPIN for its efforts towards promoting peace and unity, while emphasizing the importance of investing in peace before crises occur.

He noted that stronger collaboration among Peace actors, Government institutions, the Media and civil society is essential to amplifying peace messages, building public trust and promoting responsible citizenship.

The engagements also highlighted the need to address challenges such as misinformation, polarisation, over-securitisation and declining public trust, while encouraging a shift from crisis response to proactive peacebuilding.

IPCR reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with the media, civil society, government institutions and other stakeholders towards promoting peace, good governance, civic responsibility, national unity and sustainable development.

Together, these engagements underscore a shared commitment to Making Peace Happen and building a more peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Jigawa State Public Complaints & Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening peacebuilding, mediation, conflict prevention, research, capacity development, and institutional collaboration.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to ensuring that the partnership translates into impactful programmes and measurable outcomes. He emphasised that the National Peace Academy and IPCR’s global network of partnerships would provide opportunities for professional certification, knowledge exchange, and innovative approaches to advancing peace and conflict resolution.

The Executive Chairman, Barrister Salisu Abdu of Jigawa State Public Complaints & Anti-Corruption Commission (JPCACC) described the MoU as a significant milestone in the Commission’s pursuit of institutional excellence, noting that the collaboration will strengthen alternative dispute resolution, Mediation, Policy Development, Early warning and response, and Peacebuilding initiatives across Jigawa State and beyond.

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jigawa State Public Complaints & Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC) to deepen collaboration in peacebuilding, mediation, conflict prevention, research, capacity development, and institutional strengthening.



The partnership is designed to enhance alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, improve early warning and response systems, support policy development, and promote transparency, accountability, and good governance through strategic institutional collaboration.



Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to ensuring that the partnership translates into impactful programmes and measurable outcomes. He emphasised that the Institute's National Peace Academy, together with IPCR's extensive network of global partnerships, would provide opportunities for professional certification, knowledge exchange, and innovative approaches to advancing peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the provisions of the agreement and leveraging their respective expertise to advance peace, justice, accountability, and sustainable development in Jigawa State and across Nigeria.
