WHY KEEP SILENT?

Silence is sometimes a virtue, but there are moments when silence becomes surrender. There are seasons in the life of a nation when the greatest danger is not the noise of the oppressor, but the quietness of those who know the truth.

Today, many Nigerians watch events unfold with heavy hearts. We see hardship, injustice, corruption, insecurity, and the growing struggles of ordinary citizens. Yet, too often, those with influence, knowledge, and power choose silence. The voices that should challenge wrongs are muted by fear, political loyalty, personal gain, or the comfort of privilege.

But history teaches us a timeless lesson: silence has never built a just society. Progress has always been driven by people who dared to speak when it was unpopular, who stood when others sat, and who chose courage over convenience.

To every citizen, especially those blessed with influence, education, and leadership, this is a question worth asking: Why keep silent? If your voice can defend the weak, why withhold it? If your position can inspire hope, why remain quiet? If your words can encourage accountability, why allow fear to write the future?

Silence may protect an individual for a moment, but it can cost a nation for generations. Every unchallenged injustice grows stronger. Every ignored truth becomes a heavier burden for those who come after us.

Speaking up does not always mean shouting. It means standing for truth with wisdom, integrity, and respect. It means refusing to normalize what is wrong simply because it has become common. It means choosing conscience over comfort.

Nigeria's future will not be shaped only by those who commit wrongs, but also by those who had the opportunity to make a difference and chose not to.

The time has come to replace the conspiracy of silence with the courage of responsible voices. Let leaders lead with integrity. Let professionals defend justice. Let intellectuals speak truth. Let young people refuse apathy. Let every Nigerian remember that patriotism is not measured by silence, but by a commitment to the nation's wellbeing.

Our children deserve a country where truth is not whispered, justice is not delayed, and courage is not rare. That future begins when ordinary people decide that silence is no longer an option.

So, before choosing to remain quiet, ask yourself once more: Why keep silent? If your voice can light even one candle in the darkness, then perhaps your silence is a light the nation cannot afford to lose.

THE NIGERIA YOU PRAY FOR MAY BE WAITING FOR YOUR VOTE…

“Dear Nigerians, Save Our Democracy”

We complain about bad roads, insecurity, unemployment, poor healthcare, and a future that seems uncertain. We shake our heads when we hear the news. We blame leaders and lament the state of our country. But while our voices are loud in complaint, many remain silent when it is time to vote.

There is a little story about an old man named Okafor.

Every morning, Okafor would sit outside his small shop and complain about the condition of his community. The road was terrible. The school nearby had broken windows. Young people wandered the streets without jobs. He blamed politicians for everything.

One day, his grandson asked him a simple question.

"Grandpa, did you vote in the last election?"

Okafor lowered his head and replied, "No."

"What about the election before that?"

Again, he answered, "No."

The little boy looked at him and said, "Then how can you complain about the people who are making decisions for us when you didn't help choose who would lead us?"

Those words pierced Okafor's heart.

For years, he had hoped for change without participating in the process that could bring it. He wanted a better future, but he had left the responsibility to others.

Sadly, many of us are like Okafor.

We want a better Nigeria. We want our children to go to school without fear. We want jobs, opportunities, affordable healthcare, and a nation we can proudly call home. But change does not happen through wishes alone. Change happens when ordinary people decide to act.

Your Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) is more than a piece of plastic. It is your voice. It is your power. It is your opportunity to help shape the future.

Every election is a chance to choose the direction of our nation. If good people stay home, others will make the decision for them. If responsible citizens refuse to participate, they surrender their future to chance.

History has shown that great nations are not built by spectators. They are built by citizens who understand that their participation matters.

The Nigeria we dream about will not appear overnight. It will be built one decision at a time, one vote at a time, one citizen at a time.

YOUR PVC: The Small Card That Can Change Everything….

If your child falls and gets injured while learning to walk, would you stop them from ever trying again? Of course not. You encourage them to stand up, take another step, and keep moving forward because you know walking is too important to give up on.

So why should we give up on voting because previous elections disappointed us?

Many people say, "My vote doesn't count." Others say, "Nothing ever changes." But change has never come from silence. Progress has never come from staying at home. Every right we enjoy today was secured because ordinary people refused to stop trying.

Your Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) is more than a piece of plastic. It is your voice, your power, and your opportunity to shape the future of your children and your country. If we complain about insecurity, unemployment, poor roads, failing schools, and rising hardship, then we must also be willing to participate in choosing those who lead us.

JUNE: THE CHILDREN IN THE FOREST…

The videos play.
The pictures spread.
Tiny faces stare back at us from glowing screens, their eyes carrying fears no child should ever know.

Children.

Not soldiers.
Not criminals.
Not enemies of a nation.

Children who should be worrying about homework, running across playgrounds,
laughing over little things, and falling asleep in the safety of their homes.

Instead, they sit in forests under the mercy of men without mercy.
Hungry.
Terrified.
Broken by nights that seem to have no morning.

Somewhere, a little girl is crying for her mother. Somewhere, a little boy is trying to be brave, holding back tears because he thinks courage means silence.

And somewhere, parents stare endlessly at a photograph, searching for answers in a smiling face that has been stolen from their arms.

Yet the roads remain busy.

Markets open.
Music plays.
Politics continues.
Life moves on as though these children belong to another country,
another family,
another people.

But they are ours.

Every child sleeping on bare ground tonight is ours. Every frightened prayer whispered into the darkness is ours. Every tear falling from a mother's eyes is ours.

A nation should not become comfortable with the suffering of its children.

A nation should not scroll past their pain and continue as though nothing happened.

Because one day, history will ask us:

"When the children cried from the forests, where were you?"

What shall we say?

That we watched the videos?
That we shared the pictures?
That we shook our heads in sadness and moved on?

The forests are filled with children who should be in classrooms. The air is filled with prayers that should never have been necessary.

We must demand answers from the government because the silence of a nation echoes louder than the cries of the kidnapped.

May we never become so accustomed to tragedy that we stop feeling the pain of our own children.

For the greatest tragedy is not only that children are kidnapped and tortured, it is that their cries have become another headline, while the nation learns how to live with the sound of their suffering.

Embrace hope in June.

Believe, Nigeria will be OK.

GRATITUDE AND RENEWED COMMITMENT TO A BETTER NIGERIA...

Dear All,

I wish to extend my profound appreciation to you for turning out en masse yesterday to show ownership, solidarity, and support for our shared project for a new Greater Awgu.

Your resilience from the beginning to the end, even in the face of harsh economic conditions and the evolving political process, inspires hope and courage in our collective journey.

I offer sincere apology for the hardships occasioned by the change of affirmation and primary election venues across the state, as well as the long waiting hours endured under makeshift arrangements.

As we move forward, I urge the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to commit fully to the promise of conducting subsequent primary elections via electronic voting.

Going forward, I urge every Nigerian to remain steadfast in laying a solid foundation for a better and more prosperous Nigeria with us.

Ultimately, I firmly believe that the hardships, blemishes, and distress suffered by our people yesterday will not be in vain.

A new Nigeria is possible.
