IGP DISU CALLS FOR PROACTIVE CYBER STRATEGIES AT 2ND SEMINAR ON ANTICIPATORY, CYBER AND DIGITAL DIPLOMACY
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), npm, has called for the adoption of proactive strategies, stronger partnerships and enhanced cyber capabilities to address the growing threats in the digital space.

The Inspector-General’s message was delivered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), AIG Akaninyene Ezima mnips, who represented him at the 2nd Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy held in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, the AIG NPF-NCCC, observed that rapid technological advancement continues to shape global security, economic development and international relations, while also creating new opportunities for cybercriminals and other malicious actors. He noted that the evolving threat landscape requires security agencies, policymakers and diplomatic institutions to strengthen collaboration in protecting the nation’s digital ecosystem.

He stated that the Nigeria Police Force recognises that an effective response to emerging cyber threats must be driven by anticipatory intelligence, resilient digital infrastructure, continuous capacity development and sustained collaboration among government institutions, the private sector and international partners. He described the seminar as a strategic platform for promoting knowledge sharing, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and advancing global best practices in cyber security and digital diplomacy.

The Director reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating cybercrime through intelligence-led operations, capacity building, strategic partnerships and sustained public awareness initiatives aimed at protecting citizens, critical national infrastructure and the country’s digital economy.

He urged participants to translate the knowledge gained from the seminar into practical policies and collaborative initiatives that will strengthen Nigeria’s cyber resilience and contribute to a safer digital environment. He also commended the organisers for convening the seminar and wished participants fruitful deliberations.

The seminar brought together stakeholders from the security, diplomatic and technology sectors to examine emerging issues in artificial intelligence, cyber statecraft and digital diplomacy in support of Nigeria’s national security and foreign policy objectives.

NPF-NCCC Receives NDLEA Chairman, Strengthens Collaboration Against Cyber-Enabled Crime

In furtherance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and enhancing national security, the Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), CP Akaninyene Ezima, psc, mnips, on Tuesday, 15th July, 2026, received the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), CON, OFR, at the Centre in Abuja.

The visit followed a request by the NDLEA to understudy the operations of the NPF-NCCC and explore areas of collaboration towards strengthening the Agency’s cyber capability in addressing emerging technology-enabled crimes.

Welcoming the Chairman and his delegation, the Director, NPF-NCCC reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting strategic partnerships aimed at protecting the nation’s cyberspace. He noted that the increasing exploitation of digital platforms by criminal networks, including those involved in narcotics trafficking, underscores the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, capacity building and coordinated operational responses among law enforcement agencies.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), CON, OFR, commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the NPF-NCCC, for its professionalism and achievements in combating cybercrime. He stated that the evolving use of cyberspace by criminal elements involved in drug trafficking has informed the Agency’s resolve to strengthen its digital investigative capabilities, while expressing confidence that collaboration with the NPF-NCCC would significantly support that objective.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both agencies to deliberate on areas of mutual interest, including intelligence sharing, digital forensics, capacity development and operational cooperation in combating cyber-enabled criminal activities.

CP AKANINYENE EZIMA DECORATES NEWLY PROMOTED OFFICERS, CHARGES THEM ON PROFESSIONALISM

The Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), CP Akaninyene Ezima, mnips, has decorated seven (7) officers recently promoted from the rank of Constable to Corporal by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), npm.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Director described their elevation as a recognition of their dedication, commitment and service to the Nigeria Police Force. He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating a higher level of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties, particularly in the fight against cybercrime.

CP Ezima further charged the officers to uphold the rule of law, remain courteous in their dealings with members of the public, and strictly adhere to established rules of engagement while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

NPF-NCCC RECEIVES STUDENTS OF NIGERIA ARMY CYBER WARFARE SCHOOL ON STUDY TOUR

As part of the initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM, aimed at strengthening inter-agency cooperation and fostering harmonious relationships among sister security agencies, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), on 25th June 2026, received students of the Intermediate Cyber Security Course of the Nigeria Army Cyber Warfare School on a study tour of the Centre in Abuja.

Welcoming the Delegation on behalf of the IGP, the Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, CP Akaninyene Ezima mnips, emphasized the importance of collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies in addressing the growing threat of cybercrime and safeguarding the nation’s cyberspace.

The Director reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force, through the NPF-NCCC as the lead agency in the fight against cybercrime, remains committed to strengthening existing partnerships and enhancing inter-agency collaboration towards protecting Nigeria’s critical digital infrastructure and cyberspace.

Speaking on behalf of the Commandant of the Nigeria Army Cyber Warfare School, the Deputy Commandant, Lt. Col. A.O. Adeoye, stated that the study tour formed part of the academic requirements for the participants and was designed to expose them to practical experiences and provide deeper insights into cybersecurity operations and the protection of critical national infrastructure.

The visit provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange, professional engagement and the reinforcement of existing ties between both institutions in the collective effort to combat cyber threats and strengthen national security.

NPF-NCCC Arrests Suspects over ₦7.7 Billion Telecom Data Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force through the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has recorded significant progress in the investigation of a case involving Computer Related Fraud, Unauthorized Access to Computer Systems, and Theft of Telecom Services.

The investigation commenced following a complaint by a leading telecommunications service provider alleging the compromise and unauthorized use of staff login credentials. Preliminary investigation revealed that between October 1 and November 28, 2024, suspects unlawfully gained access to the company’s network billing infrastructure and fraudulently generated airtime which was subsequently converted to data bundles. The data bundles were thereafter distributed and sold through a network of vendors across the country.

In the course of the investigation, several suspects were arrested and over 400 laptops, 1,000 mobile phones, POS machines, cash exhibits and other evidential materials were recovered. The telecommunications provider was also able to reverse approximately 2,931.79 terabytes of fraudulently obtained data valued at about ₦3.8 billion.

Further investigation established the involvement of both insiders and external collaborators. In the second wave of the operation, conducted in May 2026, acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the NPF-NCCC carried out coordinated operations in Kano, Katsina and Zamfara States leading to the arrest of key suspects including Musa Muhammed Kwandi, Nura Sadauki and Aminu Muhammed.

Other suspects arrested in connection with the investigation include Musa Hassan Mohammed, an IT specialist, Samson Alisigwe and Yusuf Shehu, all of whom are believed to have benefited from the proceeds of the fraudulent activities.

Through sustained financial investigation and asset tracing, operatives recovered the total sum of almost ₦90,000,000 (Ninety Million Naira) including two residential houses in Kano State, a mini-plaza, as well as a Toyota RAV4 vehicle being part of the proceeds of the crime.

Investigation is ongoing with a view to identifying other accomplices, tracing additional proceeds and ensuring the prosecution of all persons found culpable.

HEADS OF INTERPOL NCBs WEST AFRICA VISIT NPF-NCCC DURING 11TH INTERPOL WEST AFRICA GENERAL CONGRESS

On the sidelines of the 11th Annual General Congress of Heads of INTERPOL National Central Bureaus (NCBs) across West Africa, delegates paid a working visit to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, NPF-NCCC, Abuja.

The visit underscored the Region’s growing commitment in collaborative cybercrime enforcement. The Head NCB Abuja, AIG Olaolu Adegbite mfr, who led the delegation explaining the decision to tour the NPF-NCCC, noted that the Center which began as a Unit within the NCB Abuja, has since evolved into a full fledged Center responsible for tackling cybercrime in Nigeria.

AIG Adegbite urged the Heads of Interpol West Africa to study the equipment NPF-NCCC uses to combat cybercrime and see what lessons can be applied in their own jurisdictions.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu psc(+), npm, the Director, CP Akaninyene Ezima, described the Center as a place of “endless possibilities” and a frontrunner in Nigeria’s fight against cyber-enabled crime. He expressed gratitude for the visit and congratulated regional partners on recent security achievements through INTERPOL cooperation.

Mrs Paule Ouedraogo, Head of the INTERPOL Regional Bureau for West Africa based in Abidjan, accompanied the delegation. Madam Chantal Apenaeki, Head of INTERPOL Regional Bureau for Central Africa, praised the NPF-NCCC facility, specifically commending the Nigeria Police Force for its effort in child protection and curbing child abuse, highlighting that if NCB Abuja can access INTERPOL Headquarters child protection database it would create a new avenue for intelligence sharing.

The Director, NPF-NCCC affirmed that Nigeria treats the issue of child exploitation with the utmost seriousness.

The visit concluded with a tour of the facilities of the Center and renewed commitment to cross-border cooperation in tackling cybercrime and protecting vulnerable populations across the region.

NPF-NCCC Arrests Suspect over ₦5.7 Million Cyber Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force through the Nigeria Police Force, National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested 27 years old Aliyu Muhammed ‘M’, in connection with Computer Related Fraud, Identity Theft, Obtaining by False Pretence and Money Laundering.

The arrest was made following a written petition from an Akwa Ibom based University Don names withheld. According to the complainant, in March 2026, he responded to advertisements for household items on a Facebook “declutter” page operated under the name “SHOPHOUSEHOLDITEMS.” The seller moved negotiations to WhatsApp, where the complainant was induced to make total payments of ₦5,700,000 (Five Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira). Funds were transferred to various fintech bank accounts and after full payment was made, the goods were not delivered, the victim was blocked, and the fraudulent page was abandoned.

Upon receipt of the petition, NPF-NCCC through technical assets and cooperation from Meta Inc, identified the owner of the account that was used to host the fraudulent page and he was traced to somewhere in Katsina State where he was arrested. The total sum has been recovered and investigation is still ongoing.

PRESS STATEMENT

NPF-NCCC Arrests Mother and Daughter over ₦18 million Romance Scam.

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) is currently investigating a case involving Computer Related Fraud, Identity Theft, and Money Laundering following an intelligence report received from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Preliminary investigations revealed that one Emmanuel Amanfo ‘M’, a resident of Lagos State who is currently at large, allegedly conspired with his 22 years old stepdaughter, Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru to open and operate multiple bank accounts for fraudulent activities. One of their victims was identified as a resident of Malta (name withheld).

Further investigations showed that funds of were transferred through Money Transfer Operators and direct deposits into several Nigerian bank accounts, all owned by Rokibat Imoru. Upon receipt, the funds were transferred into an Ecobank account belonging to her 39 years old mother, Urowhe Diana, where the proceeds were allegedly expended.

Following forensic analysis of the suspects’ digital footprints, the mother and daughter were arrested for their active involvement in a romance scam operation.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Emmanuel Amanfo, who is the husband of Urowhe Diana and step-father of Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru.

Investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
