NHIA REVIEW OF RADIOTHERAPY TARIFF: IMPROVED CANCER CARE COVERAGE

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has reviewed its tariff and coverage for radiotherapy services for cancer patients, in line with its strategic purchasing reforms and commitment to quality healthcare access.

Key changes:

🔹 Full coverage for radiotherapy
The previous ₦400,000 cap has been removed, and the 50:50 cost-sharing arrangement has been abolished.

🔹 Site-specific pricing
Radiotherapy tariffs will now vary according to the anatomical site being treated:

• Breast, Re**um, A**l, Cervix/Uterus, Soft Tissue/Bones — ₦900,000
• Prostate, Spine — ₦1,000,000
• Brain (primary), Lungs, Oesophagus, Stomach — ₦1,100,000
• Head and Neck — ₦1,200,000
• Metastasis — ₦850,000

The revised tariff takes immediate effect.

The NHIA has directed HMOs, accredited healthcare facilities and radiotherapy centres to comply fully with the revised tariff and ensure seamless, continuous and high-quality service delivery to NHIA enrollees.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is strengthening access to cancer treatment in Nigeria through an expanded partnership with Roche, providing NHIA enrollees with greater financial protection and access to essential cancer care.

Under the partnership, eligible NHIA enrollees can benefit from full treatment coverage, including surgery, radiotherapy and essential chemotherapy, while paying only 20% of the cost of life-saving cancer medicines.

The initiative also provides additional support services, including patient navigation, counselling and IHC testing for eligible patients, helping to ensure that patients receive the care and support they need throughout their treatment journey.

The NHIA says the initiative is designed to deliver better care, better outcomes and lower costs, while protecting families from the financial burden associated with cancer treatment.
