EID-EL-KABIR: IPAC FELICITATES WITH MOSLEMS, CALLS FOR PRAYERS, TOLERANCE, PATRIOTISM
.. DEMANDS CREDIBLE ELECTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEMOCRACY AND DEVELOPMENT
.. COUNCIL DEMANDS THE RELEASE OF CITIZENS HELD HOSTAGE BY TERRORISTS

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) heartily felicitates with Moslems across the country on the occasion of this year's Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Council urges them to use the occasion to pray and renew their faith in Allah and the nation.

IPAC urges the Moslem Ummah, indeed all citizens to imbibe the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, love, tolerance, peace and patriotism in the quest for a better, greater and prosperous democratic nation.

IPAC urges governments at all levels to provide dividends of democracy to the masses that will assuage the pains of the economic hardship in the country bearing in mind that the essence of government is to provide security and welfare to the people as enshrined in Section 14(2)b of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

IPAC urges the Federal Government to intensify efforts in the war against terrorism, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping in the country. Every human life matters and should be adequately protected. Council commends the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding national security and urges them to ensure the rescue of citizens held hostage by terrorists across the nation.

As the umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, IPAC is in the vanguard of consolidating, deepening and strengthening the nation's democracy, ensuring an environment conducive for the conduct of successful elections, political stability and well-being of Nigerians.

IPAC urges politicians to imbibe issue-based politics and eschews politics of bitterness that impedes the nation's democracy.

Nigerians demand free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections. Citizens' votes must count and their mandates respected by all stakeholders in the democratic process.

As the electoral umpire, INEC must remain neutral and provide a level field to all the political parties and their candidates contesting various positions. The upcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship elections will be a test of the electoral umpire's competence, capacity and capability to conduct the 2027 general election. The commission should put its act together and justify the confidence Nigerians reposed in it.

IPAC will collaborate with critical stakeholders to ensure the success of all elections.

Together, we will build a strong, stable, inclusive and just democratic nation.

INEC GUIDELINES CANNOT OVERRIDE THE CONSTITUTION

… Hails Federal High Court Judgment as Victory for Democracy, Rule of Law

… Says Ruling Will Prevent Exclusionary Conditions Capable of Disenfranchising Aspirants and Party Members.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) welcomes the landmark judgment of the Federal High Court affirming that while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) possesses supervisory powers over elections, it cannot prescribe binding timelines regulating how and when political parties conduct their internal primaries.

This judgment is a clear reaffirmation of constitutional supremacy and the rule of law. It is an aberration for INEC to attempt to rewrite the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through administrative guidelines. INEC guidelines can never be superior to the Constitution or the provisions of extant laws governing the electoral process.

While no one is questioning the powers of INEC to issue guidelines for the conduct of elections, such guidelines must operate strictly within the confines of the law.

This judgment therefore represents a major victory for democracy, the rule of law, political parties and indeed all citizens of Nigeria. It restores the constitutional rights of political parties to manage their internal affairs in line with democratic principles and without unlawful administrative interference.

Importantly, this judgment will enable political parties to provide all eligible members equal opportunity to participate in party primaries while discouraging exclusionary conditions capable of disenfranchising aspirants and party members.

IPAC also calls on the Chairman of INEC to deepen engagement and consultation with political parties, who remain the most important stakeholders in the electoral process. Greater collaboration and dialogue would have helped prevent this avoidable error and the unnecessary legal disputes arising from it.

This development further validates IPAC’s consistent position that INEC’s attempt to compress and undertake too many electoral activities within a limited timeframe before elections could create confusion, administrative bottlenecks and exclusion within the electoral process.

IPAC RAISES CONCERNS OVER TIMING OF VOTER REVALIDATION, INEC’S HANDLING OF ADC LEADERSHIP DISPUTE AND PLATEAU KILLINGS

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) expresses deep concern over recent developments in Nigeria’s political and security landscape, particularly the proposed Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the handling of the leadership situation within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the persistent killings in Plateau State.

IPAC acknowledges that periodic updates of the voter register are vital to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. However, the timing of the proposed Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise raises serious concerns.

At a period when critical stakeholders, especially political parties are already burdened with numerous obligations arising from the new Electoral Act, including ongoing nationwide membership registration with mandatory NIN verification within a limited timeframe, party primaries, as well as Verification and Compliance Assessments to be carried out by INEC, introducing an additional nationwide exercise without broad consultation, particularly with political parties and adequate preparation risks disenfranchising millions of eligible voters.

We therefore urge INEC to reconsider the timing of the exercise to prevent an overly congested electoral environment that may ultimately exclude, rather than include, more citizens in the democratic process.

Furthermore, IPAC calls on INEC to exercise caution in handling the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In cases of internal party disagreements, it must be clearly understood that leadership structures, even when contested, do not amount to a vacuum. The reported removal of the names of Distinguished Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from INEC’s official portal appears premature and capable of creating avoidable instability within the polity. If not carefully managed, such actions may set a troubling precedent and undermine confidence in the neutrality of the electoral umpire. IPAC therefore urges INEC to act with restraint, fairness and strict adherence to due process in resolving intra-party issues.

IPAC also strongly condemns the continued killings in Plateau State. These senseless acts of violence are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to national unity and security. The Council calls on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to take urgent, decisive and sustained action to halt the violence, safeguard lives and property and restore peace to affected communities. It is imperative that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes, along with their sponsors, are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive in an environment where electoral processes are transparent, political institutions are stable and citizens feel safe and protected.

SYNOPSIS

UNBROKEN: Two and a Half Decades

In 1999, a nation stood at the threshold of history. From the ashes of prolonged military rule, Nigeria embraced democracy with courage, uncertainty, and hope. Twenty-six years later, that democratic flame still burns.

Unbroken: Two and a Half Decades is a sweeping documentary drama that chronicles Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic journey from the dawn of the Fourth Republic to the present Renewed Hope era under Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is not merely a film, it is a national mirror, a tribute, and a bold declaration that the will of the Nigerian people has endured.

Blending powerful dramatizations with archival depth, expert insights, and emotionally charged storytelling, Unbroken takes viewers behind the scenes of defining elections, historic transitions of power, constitutional tests, security challenges, economic reforms, civic activism, and the resilience of democratic institutions. From moments of tension to triumph, from skepticism to stability, the film captures the heartbeat of a nation determined to govern itself.

At the center of this cinematic masterpiece is the collective strength of Nigerians, leaders and citizens, institutions and reformers, critics and patriots, whose choices, sacrifices, and persistence sustained the democratic experiment against all odds.

Shot with world-class cinematic technology and crafted to meet global streaming standards, Unbroken delivers a visual experience that matches its historic significance. It is both intimate and epic, personal in its human stories, monumental in its national scope.

More than a retrospective, the film is a statement to Africa and the world: that democracy in Nigeria is not accidental, not fragile, and not fleeting. It is evolving. It is resilient. It is Unbroken.

This is Nigeria’s story, told with pride, preserved for history, and projected to the world.
