CBN CYBERSECURITY LEVY, ANOTHER HEARTLESS POLICY, PRP

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) condemns the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) recent directive to impose a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on electronic transfers. This ill-timed and insensitive policy, set to be implemented within the next two weeks, will only serve to exacerbate the financial woes of Nigerian citizens who are already grappling with economic hardship.

This new levy will have a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable sections of society, including hardworking individuals, families, and small business owners. It is particularly distressing to note that the funds collected will directly benefit the National Security Adviser's office without any obligation for transparency or accountability in the utilization of these funds.

The PRP questions the rationale behind this policy, as it appears to be yet another instance of the government extracting additional resources from its citizens without providing any tangible benefits in return. The ongoing struggles of Nigerians, including skyrocketing food inflation, fuel scarcity, depreciating currency, and general insecurity, make it clear that the imposition of this levy is heartless, callous and unjust.

We call upon the CBN and the Nigerian Government to immediately rescind this policy and instead focus on implementing measures that genuinely address the pressing concerns of the citizens. The PRP urges the authorities to prioritize policies that promote economic growth, job creation, and equitable distribution of resources rather than imposing additional burdens on an already overburdened populace.

The PRP demands that the CBN immediately retracts this misguided directive and seeks alternative, more inclusive solutions to safeguard the financial well-being of Nigerians.

In conclusion, the PRP reiterates that it stand in solidarity with the citizens of this great nation and remain committed to fighting for a fairer and more prosperous future for all.

FOREIGN MILITARY BASES IN NIGERIA - A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY AND SOVEREIGNTY

The PRP joins other Nigerian patriots who have alerted President Tinubu and members of the National Assembly on the dangers of the ongoing attempts by the USA and some European countries to relocate their military bases in the Sahel, where they have been kicked out by host nations, to Nigeria. As a Party resolutely committed to the sovereignty, security and well-being of our nation, we feel it is our responsibility to voice our concerns and caution the Nigerian government against entering into any pacts that may endorse such arrangements.

The relocation of these foreign military bases to our beloved nation carries with it a myriad of potential dangers that could adversely affect the security, sovereignty, and overall well-being of our dear country. We, as a party founded on the principles of "Total Liberation from Imperialism," feel compelled to highlight these risks and strongly call on the Nigerian government to outrightly reject such proposals for our national interest and specifically for these reasons:

1. Threat to Sovereignty: The presence of foreign military bases on Nigerian soil may lead to a gradual erosion of our national sovereignty. This could result in our government being pressured to align with the foreign policy interests of the United States and France, potentially compromising our ability to make independent decisions that prioritize the best interests of Nigeria and her citizens.

2. Security Concerns: The relocation of military bases could inadvertently expose Nigeria to new security threats. These foreign troops may not fully understand the complex and dynamic nature of the security landscape in Nigeria, which could lead to unintended consequences. Moreover, their presence might provoke resentment among local communities, increasing the risk of insurgency and other forms of violence.

3. Economic Implications: The Nigerian government must consider the economic impact of hosting foreign military bases. The costs associated with accommodating these troops, maintaining infrastructure, and addressing potential security issues could strain our already limited resources. Furthermore, there is a risk of increased dependency on foreign aid and assistance, which may undermine our nation's self-reliance and economic growth.

4. Diplomatic Tensions: The relocation of American and French military bases to Nigeria could potentially strain our relations with other African countries. Such a move might be perceived as an act of aggression or a power play, leading to diplomatic tensions and regional instability.

5. Shift in Focus: The presence of foreign military bases could divert Nigeria's attention from addressing its domestic security challenges to catering to the strategic interests of the base-owner countries. This might result in neglecting Nigeria's internal security needs and weakening its defense capabilities.

6. Influence on Foreign Policy: The military presence of the US and France in Nigeria may influence the country's foreign policy decisions, potentially altering its stance on regional and international issues to align with the interests of these countries.

7. Environmental and Social Impacts: The presence of foreign military bases could lead to potential environmental and social impacts as these installations often require large tracts of land for infrastructure development, which could lead to the displacement of local communities and the destruction of fragile ecosystems. Additionally, the increased military activity may result in environmental degradation, pollution, and other hazards that could have long-term consequences for the health and well-being of Nigerians.

In conclusion, the PRP strongly advises the Nigerian government against entering into any agreements that would lead to the relocation of American and French military bases from the Sahel to Nigeria. We believe that such a decision would pose significant risks to our national sovereignty, security, environment, and economy. Instead, we call for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing the challenges faced in the Sahel region, one that prioritizes diplomacy, regional cooperation, and sustainable development.

MAY DAY: SOLIDARITY FOREVER

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) extends its heartfelt solidarity to the hardworking men and women of Nigeria on the occasion of Workers' Day, celebrated on the 1st of May every year. As we mark this year’s Workers’ Day, we recognize the importance of this day in acknowledging the immense contributions of workers to the growth and development of our nation.

The PRP acknowledges the challenges faced by workers and the downtrodden in Nigeria, including low wages, poor working conditions, unemployment, and a general lack of social protection. We stand in unwavering support of their fight for a better life, fair wages, and improved working conditions.

On this Workers' Day, the PRP calls on the Nigerian government to prioritize policies that will uplift the living standards of workers and the less privileged. This includes implementing a living wage policy, improving social protection measures, and investing in quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

We also urge the organized labor unions to continue their advocacy for workers' rights and to collaborate with the government in the pursuit of these goals. A prosperous and equitable Nigeria is only possible when the needs and welfare of its working-class citizens are given due attention.

The PRP remains committed to the cause of the Nigerian workers and the downtrodden. We pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and their rights are protected. ELECTRICITY TARRIFF INCREASE: A CYNICALLY CRUEL BLOW TO NIGERIANS

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has read the report of the proposed 300% increase in electricity tariffs and strongly condemns same as this will result in the power companies raising prices of electricity from N68 to N200 per kilowatt-hour. This drastic hike, coming on the heels of the removal of fuel subsidies and massive devaluation of the Naira, which have brought increases in costs of living and resultant hardship to the populace, is an unconscionable burden on the already struggling Nigerian populace.

As a party that champions the welfare of the people, we express our deep concern and share the shock felt by millions of Nigerians who are grappling with the harsh realities of survival. This decision by the government is not only insensitive but also demonstrates a blatant disregard for the plight of the citizens.

The removal of fuel subsidies has already made life unbearable for Nigerians, and the additional burden of a 300% increase in electricity tariffs is a merciless and ruthless policy at a time when the majority of the population is struggling to meet their basic needs like food. It is unimaginable that the government would impose such life-frustrating policies on a nation that is already on its knees.

The PRP calls on the government to reconsider this decision and prioritize the well-being of its citizens. We urge the authorities to explore alternative solutions that will not further exacerbate the suffering of Nigerians. Government should urgently consider seriously investing in the exploration and expansion of alternative renewable sources of electricity supply such as solar, bio gas, wind, etc which have the potential of providing cheap and sustainable electric energy to Nigerians for their domestic, economic and industrial needs. The current economic situation demands empathy, understanding, and a collective effort to uplift the people, not policies that push them deeper into hardship.

In addition to the evident detrimental effects that a 300 percent surge in electricity bills would impose on Nigerians, it is crucial to acknowledge the substantial impact it would have on medium and small enterprises, as well as the informal sector. This significant hike in energy costs could potentially cripple these vital components of our economy, leading to potential job losses and hindering overall growth and development.

Finally, we stand in solidarity with the millions of Nigerians who are affected by these policies and pledge to continue advocating for their rights and interests. The PRP remains committed to working towards a better future for all Nigerians, where basic necessities like food, electricity and fuel are accessible and affordable.

ALLEGED BUDGET PADDING, PRESIDENT TINUBU SHOULD COME CLEAN

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) strongly condemns the alleged padding of the 2024 budget by N3 trillion from N25 trillion to N28 trillion. This act, if true, represents gross misconduct and a blatant disregard for the principles of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility that our great nation deserves especially at these trying times.

As a party committed to the progress and welfare of all Nigerian citizens, we are deeply concerned about the potential negative impact of such an act on our economy, developmental goals, and the overall well-being of our people. We strongly believe that parliament must stand up to its statutory and constitutional responsibility of factual appropriation and funding by the provisions of the budget office and that public funds must be utilized judiciously and for the sole purpose of advancing the interests of the citizens.

Consequent upon this, the PRP calls on the relevant authorities to immediately investigate these allegations and bring all those culpable or guilty of such malfeasance to book. We also urge the National Assembly to exercise its constitutional responsibilities by thoroughly scrutinizing the budget to ensure that it aligns with the best interests of the nation.

We remind all elected officials that service to the people comes first and they must act with the utmost integrity and honesty in the discharge of their duties.

The PRP remains resolute in its commitment to promoting good governance, fighting corruption, and ensuring that every Nigerian enjoys the dividends of democracy.

In conclusion, we call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in condemning this alleged budget padding and to demand that those responsible be held accountable. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and corruption-free Nigeria.

INCIDENTS OF MASS LOOTINGS: WARNING SIGNALS OF THE COMING ARMAGEDDON

The recent reports of looting of trucks carrying food items on our highways and cities are warning signals of the looming anarchy and turmoil which Nigeria faces in the foreseable future if drastic measures are not taken to address the serious cost of living crisis facing majority of Nigerian citizens. The most recent of these reported incidents happened last Friday in Dogarawa, a suburb of Zaria in Kaduna State where residents looted cartons of sphagetti from a parked truck of BUA Company. Such a behaviour looked from any angle is simply criminal, wrong, and need be addressed squarely.

Yes, there is hunger and hardship in the land. Yes, there is poverty in the land, and the ruling elite have weaponized poverty, which has made citizens trade their votes for a pack or two of spaghetti as we saw in last year elections. Despite these, we in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) caution the ordinary Nigerians not to allow their weaponization of poverty make us criminals to the extent that we loot what does not belong to us.

The PRP expresses its deep concern over the escalating prices of essential commodities, which have made life unbearable for the masses if not most Nigerians. We therefore call upon our industrialists such as BUA whose truck was looted to exercise empathy and reason by taking immediate steps to bring down the prices of these goods. It is crucial for businessmen to understand their role in society and prioritize the welfare of the people in their dealings. Afterall the dollar price which has been used as an excuse to hike prices has come down and yet the market has not seen immediate downward review of prices though we withess immedate upward review of prices, once cost of dollar goes up.

The PRP will next urge all levels of government, particularly at the national and state levels, to promptly implement policies and interventions that will alleviate the suffering of the masses. This includes addressing food inflation, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring the equitable distribution of the palliative resources which we have seen a few states done but most are simply pocketing the additional resouces that have come their ways from both petrol subsidy removal and merger of exchange rates.

The PRP believes that the looting incident in Zaria is a symptom of a larger problem that requires collective effort and commitment from all stakeholders inclusive of our industrialists and the business community. We call for a concerted effort to tackle the root causes of such incidents and to work towards a more just and inclusive society.
As a political party dedicated to the principles of fairness, justice, and progress, the PRP remains committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of all Nigerians. We reiterate our call for unity, understanding, and responsible action from every citizen and institution in addressing the challenges facing our nation.

PRP Condemns Threats to Nigerians Criticizing Government's Failures

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) strongly condemns the recent threat issued by the Minister of State, Defence, Bello Matawalle, against Nigerians who criticize the economic collapse and rising insecurity in the country.

As a democratic institution committed to the welfare and progress of our nation, we in the PRP, find such threats not only unwarranted but also an affront to the fundamental rights of citizens to express their opinions as enshrined in the Nigerian Laws inclusive of the Nigerian Constitution as well as the democratic tenets to hold those in power accountable.

As the people of Nigeria continue to grapple with the harsh realities of hunger, economic hardship, and insecurity, it is disheartening to witness those entrusted with governance attempting to stifle dissenting voices. The Minister's statement not only undermines the democratic principles our nation stands for but also reveals a lack of understanding of the legitimate concerns and frustrations of the masses as well as their rights to protest which President Tinubu had for years exercised as an opposition politician.

The PRP calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to remain vigilant and resolute in their pursuit of good governance. We must remember that it is our collective responsibility to demand better governance from those who lead us.

The Minister should not forget that the people of Nigeria are not mere subjects to be silenced or intimidated. They are hungry as a consequence of policies which they consider wrong, and their voices echo the urgent need for reversal of such policies to bring in good governance, transparency, and effective solutions to the myriad of issues facing them.

We urge the Minister of State, Defence, Bello Matawalle to reflect on the lessons from his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State, where his administration's failure to address the pressing issues of the state led to his rejection by the people in the last general elections. It is crucial for public officials to understand that their actions and decisions have consequences, and they must be prepared to face the music when they fall short of the expectations of the people they serve.

In conclusion, the PRP reiterates its commitment to advocating for good governance, addressing the issues facing our nation, and ensuring that the voices of Nigerians are heard. We will not be cowed or silenced by threats, and we call on all citizens to join us in this quest for a better Nigeria.

REJECT IMF's RECOMMENDATIONS ON REMOVAL OF FUEL/ELECTRICITY SUBSIDIES, PRP ASKS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) vehemently urges the Federal Government of Nigeria to disregard and reject the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) recommendation to phase out fuel and electricity subsidies completely. This recommendation, in our view, is insensitive and inconsiderate, particularly at a time when Nigerians are grappling with worst economic hardship since the Nigerian State came into being as a direct consequence of last year's fuel subsidy removal and massive devaluation of the National Currency.

As a sovereign nation, Nigeria should be able to decide on policies that are guaranteed to promote the overall wellbeing of its citizens without any dictations from neo-liberal and neo-colonial organisations such as the IMF and World Bank who mostly are out to service the profit motives of multinational corporations and the Western powers at the expense of our long suffering people.

The Federal Government must prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and consider the socio-economic implications of removing these subsidies. The sudden removal of fuel subsidies and massive devaluation of the national currency last year by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration on the day he came to power, led to a spike in the cost of living, causing undue hardship for millions of citizens who are already struggling to make ends meet. Phasing out electricity subsidies will only exacerbate this situation further.

Instead of removing these essential subsidies, we propose that the Federal Government focuses on addressing the root causes of inefficiency in the fuel and power sectors. This includes tackling massive corruption in the two sectors, promoting transparency, and investing in infrastructure to improve the delivery of these services to the citizens.

We, in the PRP, call on the Federal Government to stand firm in its responsibility to protect the interests of its citizens. We urge them to explore alternative measures that can address the nation's financial challenges without subjecting Nigerians to further economic suffering.

In conclusion, we would like to warn the IMF and the legion of its surrogates and parrots on the corridors of power in Nigeria to be aware that the good people of this country are carefully monitoring their nefarious antics and may be forced to respond appropriately should these surrogates now temporarily in power, go ahead with any of these anti-people policies and programmes. We urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to listen to outcry of the Nigerian citizens that are already crying rather than the voices of any or both of the Bretton Woods sisters of the IMF and World Bank whose advices have for decades now put the Nigerian masses in hardships.

STOP THE BLAME GAME, APC AS ANGER AGAINST IMPOSED HUNGER, NEEDS NO INSTIGATION

It is quite disheartening to see the All Progressives Congress (APC) resort to baseless accusations and fear-mongering in an attempt to deflect attention from the legitimate concerns raised by the Nigerian people. The protests in Minna and Kano were not orchestrated by opposition parties but rather a grassroot expression of frustration and dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in the country.

The citizens of Nigeria have the right to protest peacefully and demand accountability from their government. It is disingenuous for the APC to dismiss these protests as mere instigation by the opposition, when, in fact, they are a reflection of the growing discontent among the populace.

Instead of labeling protesters as pawns of the opposition, the government should listen to their grievances and work towards addressing the root causes of their discontent. It is only through dialogue and genuine engagement that a lasting solution to the challenges facing our country can be found.

It is high time the APC stopped playing the blame game and focus on delivering on its promises to the Nigerian people. The citizens of this country deserve better than empty rhetoric and false accusations. Let us come together as a nation to work towards a brighter and more prosperous future for all.

We in the PRP are not for any gang up against the APC administrations that have ruined rather than ruled this country for the last decade but we stand with the ordinary Nigerians across the length and breadth of this country sufferring from bad governance and urge that the governments at all levels listen and address the yearnings of Nigerians.
