The attention of the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has been drawn to reactions trailing the discontinuation of the criminal charge against the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer MD/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc.

The Attorney General's decision to discontinue the criminal charge against Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, MD/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, is a testament to the office's commitment to upholding justice and fairness. As the chief law officer of the federation, the AGF has the constitutional power to enter a nolle prosequi, discontinuing a prosecution where it is deemed necessary to prevent a miscarriage of justice.

This decision followed a careful review of the case which did not connect Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe to the charge as she was neither the account officer nor the Managing Director of the Fidelity Bank when the account used in the alleged scheme of fraud was opened.

The Attorney General's decision is guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law, and we have every confidence that this decision is in the best interest of justice and the public.

This decision does not to exculpate Fidelity Bank from the allegations contained in the charge which is still pending before the court, but rather a demonstration of the Attorney General's duty to ensure that justice is served.

We urge the public to allow the legal process to run its course and to refrain from speculation or jumping to conclusions.

The AGF will ensure that the best interest of Justice is served at all times and that all those found wanting, at any time, face the full weight of law to serve as a deterrent to others.

President Bola Tinubu extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and many fans of Mike Ejeagha, one of Nigeria's greatest folklorists, songwriters, and musicians in the Igbo language, who passed on to eternity on Friday at 95.

President Tinubu notes that Mike Ejeagha used his music and distinctive storytelling style to preserve and project Igbo culture and customs, inspiring generations.

"May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha's music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation," President Tinubu says.

The President commends the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for honouring the music icon while still alive.

President Tinubu prays to God Almighty to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and comfort to all who mourn his loss.

BREAKING: President Tinubu establishes National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) with N100 billion initial capital, appoints former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, as Chairman of the NCGC Board

The new institution, backed by an initial capital of N100 billion, is designed to de-risk lending and expand access to finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), small corporates, manufacturers, consumers, and large businesses across Nigeria.

Tinubu also appointed Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo who will serve as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Other key appointments include Mrs. Tinoula Aigwedo as Executive Director of Strategy and Operations; Dr. Ezekiel Oseni as Executive Director, Risk Management; and Ms. Yeside Kazeem, an experienced actuarial expert, as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

CHILDREN'S DAY: PROF. YILWATDA LAUNCHES ALTERNATE EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR OUT- OF - SCHOOL CHILDREN

To mark the 2025 Childrens Day, and in commemoration of Mr President's second year in Office, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has launched the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National Home Grown School Feeding Programme for Out-of- School Children, held in Abuja on 27th May, 2025.

The project was launched in collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Education (NCAOSE) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). NCAose will support the initiative with trained and dedicated teachers while NIMC will enrol the children into the National Identity Number (NIN).

According to the Minister, the collaboration stands as a model of inter- Agency synergy and national service.
" The launch represents the beginning of a new era in reaching underserved and vulnerable children cross Nigeria. Our aim is to scale this initiative to other settlements and communities nationwide, building a national framework for reintegrating our of school children into safe, structured and nourishing learning environments".

Prof. Yilwatda called on stakeholders ; State governments, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society, private sector and international development partners to rally around this initiative.
He commended the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme Agency, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, the Programme Manager NHGSFP, Dr Princess Aderemi Adebowale for making the initiative a success as well as NIMC, NCAOSE, Parents and caregivers and the children for believing in the promise of education. " Investing in the Children is investing in the future. By equipping then with knowledge, nourishment, identity and care today, we secure for Nigeria a generation of enlightened, empowered and patriotic citizens" he added.

Other dignitaries at the event include the Directors of the Ministry, Director General NIMC, Engr Abisoye Coker Odushote, Special Assistant to Mr President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Delu Yakubu Bulus, Executive Secretary, NCAOSE, children, parents and care givers, among others.

MINISTER OF STATE, REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO BORNO GOVERNOR.

Honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Regional Development, Maigari, today paid a courtesy visit to the Borno State Governor. Umara Zulum in his Office
The Minister briefed the Governor on the planned official Handing Over of some Completed Projects by the North East Development Commission ( NEDC) to the Borno state government, which will be done tomorrow, May 28,2025.

Addressing the Governor, the Minister of State noted that the Ministry of Regional Development (MRD) was established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to coordinate and drive inclusive development across the six geopolitical zones, as part of his Renewed Hope Initiative, adding that he has been tasked to directly supervise the operations of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the North West Development Commission (NWDC), and the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).

The establishment of NEDC he said was borne out of the need to rebuild and stabilize the region after years of insurgency and economic disruption,
stressing that the completed projects by the NEDC is a testament to that vision and aligns with the broader North East Stabilization and Development Plan (NESDP).
Projects to hand over are as follows:
ICT centre at Agency for Mass Literacy, Male and female wards at federal Neuro Psychiatrists furnished and equipped with drugs at Central Medical Store.
Others are Renovated and equipped with modern facilities NEDC store, construction of new male and female wards at dental and eye hospital. constructed and equipped Konduga police station, DSS Clinic and High Court Complex.

Borno Star Governor, Umara Zulum acknowledged the huge interventions recorded by the NEDC, saying that steps would be taken to re-prioritize development projects to ensure that the Commission will not only achieve the mandate of rebuilding the region in record time, but make it even better than it was.
He cited : security, power, health and road infrastructure as critical areas

The Chairman, House Committee on NEDC, RT. Hon. Usman Zannah , commended the synergy between the Commission and it's Stakeholders which culminated in the milestone achieved so far. He particularly commended the Borno Stae Governor for his resilience even in the face of adversity occasioned by insecurity.

Also on the courtesy visit were, Chairman House Committee on NEDC, NEDC Chairman/Board Members and MD NEDC and other dignitaries.
