Shettima, Atiku, Obi, Kalu, Onyejeocha, others, bid Pa Ukachukwu Ifoh farewell at 91

Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar, Presidential Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Party, NDC, Peter Obi, Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Ben Kalu and immediate past minister of Labour and Employment Nkiruka Onyejeocha were among the top political leaders who consoled with the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh as he laid to rest on Friday his father, Late Pa Lawrence Ukachukwu Ifoh.

The late patriarch of the Ifohs, a business man, prominent community leader and faithful Christian was laid to rest in Mbala Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia state. He was aged 91 years.

Vice President Shetima in his condolence message eschewed the virtues of the late patriarch whom he said exemplified godly virtues, which form part of the legacy he bequeathed to his children.

"His business ventures recorded remarkable success due to his acumen, diligence, honesty, and forthrightness in all his dealings. Our nation needs the entrenchment and sustenance of peace and stability as the life of Pa Ukachukwu mirrors what we can achieve if we love one another and become our brother's keeper."

Former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar said that Pa Ifoh lived a life of quiet strength and enduring faith and for 91 years, he was a beacon of love, discipline and wisdom to all who knew him.

"He nurtured generations with selfless devotion and left behind a legacy of integrity, hard work and compassion. To the Ifoh family: I mourn with you, but I also celebrate with you. Your father lived well, loved deeply and has gone to rest in eternal peace."

Mr. Peter Obi in his condolence message prayed that God "who called him home grant him eternal rest in His kingdom; and grant you, and your family the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss."

The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu in his condolence message said that "The true measure of a man's life is not merely in the number of years he lived, but in the values he imparted, the lives he touched, and the legacy he left behind. From the tributes and celebration of his life, it is evident that your late father was a man whose influence reached beyond his immediate family and whose memory will continue to be cherished by all who knew him."

The former Deputy Whip of the Federal House of Representatives and immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha (Adaejiagamba) who personally graced the occasion noted that the exit of Pa Lawrence, no doubt, lives such an unwieldy vacuum not only to Ifoh’s family, but also to the church and Umuobasi Autonomous Community at large.

"Indeed, the death of a loved one is a painful and an irreparable loss; however, the abiding tenets of our Christian faith give us the assurance that our departed ones are resting blissfully in the bossom of the Lord. Your father lived in such a way that he impacted greatly on every one with whom he came in contact with during his life time."

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure was represented at the occasion by the party's governorship candidate in Abia state, Chief Ceekay Igara who came with a large contingents of Party faithfuls.

While paying his tribute, Chief Igara described Pa Ifoh as a man of enduring impact, wisdom and community service. He said his presence at the ceremony reflected his belief that leadership goes beyond political activities and require standing with the people during both moments of celebration and grief. He said, "Leadership is about being with the people in good times and in difficult times."

In his homily, Venerable Stanley Anyanwu, of the St. Michaels Anglican Church witnessed the life of service, humility and love of God lived by Pa Ifoh as an emulation of life Christ lived while on earth. He said he was touched by the level of dedication to the work of God which Papa even at a very ripe age typified.

"What will you be remembered for when you must have transited. Just like Christ 2000 years after death, what will people say about your life on earth when you are no more. The legacy you live behind must be most fitting testament of what you were."

The event brought together political leaders, friends and associates of the Labour Party spokesperson and his family to honour the memory of their late father and to celebrate his legacies, virtues and contributions to the society.

It is obvious that God uses people to uplift and bless others. But never take advantage of that divine provision or allow the blessings God gives through you to make you feel like you have replaced God in another person’s life.

Be a channel of God’s blessings, not an entitled destiny helper.

Remember, no man gives what he has not first received. Whatever you have is ultimately a gift from God, and He can choose to use you to answer someone else’s prayer.

Therefore, help with humility. Give with love. Support without demanding worship, loyalty, or permanent indebtedness.

Never become so proud of being the vessel that you forget the One who owns the blessing.

Be a blessing, but always remember the Blesser.

*CLOSING REMARKS BY THE NIGERIAN DELEGATION AT THE SEMINAR ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF 2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES - SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND TOWNS, IN BEIJING - PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA*

Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation with over 230 million energetic and brilliant people. Endowed with vast natural resources including oil, natural gas, solid minerals and abundant renewable energy potentials.
Nigeria is not just a destination, it's a land where ideas grow, investments flourish and the future is full of promises.

I am here representing Nigeria with Abdulahi Yakubu, Abubakar Abdulahi Ahmad, Sikiru Olawoyin Yekini and Ahmed Isah Ibrahim.

On behalf of the five-member Nigerian delegation, I extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Academy for International Business Officials for hosting this outstanding seminar. We are deeply grateful for your warm hospitality, excellent organisation, and unwavering commitment to international cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Over the past weeks, we have not only received high-quality lectures from distinguished experts and diplomats, but we have also had the unique opportunity to visit remarkable institutions, historic centres and projects that demonstrate China's practical commitment to building sustainable cities and towns. Seeing these initiatives firsthand has been truly inspiring. They have shown us that with visionary leadership, sound policies, innovation, and consistency as demonstrated by President Xi Jingping, sustainable development can move from aspiration to reality by 2030. Ofcourse China is already close to 100 percent achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Beyond the knowledge we have gained, this seminar has also brought together participants from eleven different countries, creating an environment of friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual learning. Although we come from different regions and backgrounds, we are united by a common purpose—to build more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities for our people.

For us in Nigeria, the lessons from this seminar are particularly relevant. Like many developing nations, we face the challenges of rapid urbanisation, infrastructure deficits, environmental sustainability challenges, and growing demands on our cities. However, what we have learned here reinforces our confidence that these challenges can be transformed into opportunities through strategic planning, policy implementation, technology, innovation, good governance, and international collaboration.
The eight government priority areas under the current president reflect a strategic roadmap for Nigeria's development. It focuses on economic growth, security, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, industrialization, innovation, and good governance. Together, these priorities aim to improve the quality of life, create opportunities, and build a more prosperous and resilient Nigeria. We are happy also that there is a blossoming mutual relationship between Nigeria and China, and we hope to leverage on that.

As we return home, we do so not only with certificates but with renewed determination to contribute meaningfully to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We will continue to share these valuable experiences with our institutions, communities, and policymakers, while strengthening the bonds of friendship between Nigeria and China. We also invite other participating countries to Nigeria for business partnership and tourism.

Finally, to our hosts, lecturers, coordinators, interpreters, and every member of the organising team ably led by Mr Zheng Tianze (Paschal), thank you for making this seminar a memorable and enriching experience. Also we appreciate the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. To my fellow participants from the other ten countries, it has been an honour learning alongside with you, and I hope the friendships we have built here will continue to flourish long after we leave China. Memories dont die.

Together, let us continue working towards a future where sustainable cities and sustainable development become a reality for all nations beyond the 2030 agenda.

PRESS STATEMENT BY PRINCE KENNEDY AHANOTU, LABOUR PARTY 2027 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

ON RECENT DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE LABOUR PARTY AND OUR COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS

While participating in an international seminar on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Developing Countries, alongside critical government officials from Nigeria’s Office of the Vice President, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and 32 other experts from 11 countries currently gathered in Beijing, China, my attention was drawn to a publication by Mr. Ken Asogwa and certain individuals celebrating what they consider a political development within the Labour Party.

I must state clearly that the reported developments are neither a surprise nor a distraction to me and my team. Rather, they reinforce the urgent need for Nigeria to strengthen democratic institutions, respect the rule of law, and ensure that political parties remain truly democratic platforms for citizens and members.

The issues surrounding the leadership and internal administration of the Labour Party are already before the relevant legal institutions, and we remain confident that justice will ultimately prevail. History has consistently demonstrated that actions taken against fairness, transparency, and due process eventually face the judgment of time.

Our commitment to the Future Now Agenda — Youth Leadership and Governance for All Citizens remains unwavering. Our mission has never been driven by desperation, personal ambition, or the pursuit of political convenience. It is a movement founded on the conviction that Nigeria deserves stronger institutions, accountable leadership, and a governance system that places citizens at the centre of national development.

Whether our journey achieves its objectives in 2027 or at another time in the future, our commitment remains firm. Great movements are not always defined by immediate victories but by the courage, consistency, and sacrifices made in building a better future.

It is unfortunate that in Nigeria, those who remain consistent in service and principle are sometimes overlooked, while systems occasionally reward compromise over competence. However, history eventually recognizes those who stand for truth, justice, and institutional transformation.

I therefore call on our supporters, sponsors, party members, and all Nigerians who believe in our vision, competence, credibility, and genuine commitment to remain calm and focused. We await the pronouncement of the highest court of the land on the ongoing issues concerning the leadership of the Labour Party, after which we shall communicate our next steps regarding the 2027 General Election.

I also respectfully appeal to the distinguished members of the Nigerian judiciary, particularly the Honourable Justices of the Supreme Court, to continue to uphold the integrity, independence, and credibility of our judicial institutions. The strength of Nigeria’s democracy depends greatly on the confidence citizens have in the justice system and the protection of democratic principles.

As we navigate this period, let us remain committed to our greater objective: building strong, stable, and enduring institutions that will outlive individuals, political parties, and generations.

May God bless Nigerians.
