STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY

Stop blackmailng Labour Party leadership, Abure warns Obi:

* Crisis in LP created, sustained by Obi and Gov Otti

The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party was called to an interview on Monday granted by the party's candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi wherein he alleged that the APC led Federal Government has infiltrated the leadership of the Labour Party and by so doing, fomenting crisis in the party. But when asked to produce the evidence, Obi could not produce any tangible evidence. He however said that the national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure referred to the Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti as a dwarf.

As a member of our party, we sincerely do not wish to join issues with Mr. Obi but for his penchant to constantly misinform Nigerians on the real reasons for the crisis in the party, knowing that virtually most other parties are in one form of crisis or the other. We sincerely hope that he should introspect and move away from this ill-conceived narratives.

It is therefore pertinent to put on record that the problem with the Labour Party was not created by the ruling party, (APC), rather the problem in the Labour Party was created and sustained by Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State who is presently serving suspension for anti-party activities. We dare Obi to produce any tangible or intangible evidence which suggests remotely or otherwise that the Abure leadership of the Labour Party is on the bed with the APC led government.

Nobody is infallible and it behoves on anyone who makes mistakes to be bold enough to own it. When good leaders fail, they should own up to their responsibilities. Obi failed in providing leadership for the party. He should own up to his mistakes. It is therefore shameful for Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti to continue to accuse the government of infiltrating Labour Party and by so doing demarketing the party.

This same government was in existence in 2022 when the party made six aspirants, including Prof. Pat Utomi to step down for Peter Obi as the party's candidate. The government was in existence when the party crisscrossed all the nooks and crannies of the country including the insecurity prone areas campaigning for Peter Obi in 2022 and 2023.

The government was in existence when the national chairman, Julius Abure travelled across Europe and United States to galvanized support for Peter Obi. The government was also in existence when the party leadership mobilised its members across the state leading to over six million votes won during the election.

It was the same leadership that you claimed has been infiltrated that stood with Peter Obi throughout the tribunal and up to the Supreme Court. The same Abure appeared in court more that Obi refusing to be cowed when a splinter group wanted to hijack the process. The government was in existence when Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti were given sole tickets for the 2027 even against the status book.

For the records, there was no problem in the Labour Party until Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti went to Umuahia, Abia State to create an illegal and unconstitutional Caretaker Committee that polarized the party. And may I ask, is it the ruling party that sent Obi and Otti to Umuahia to create a division in the party?

They were also aware that the courts; from the lower court up to the Supreme Court clearly affirmed the leadership of the party, but Peter Obi and Alex Otti surreptitiously plotted to hijack the leadership of the party by instigating the division. Again, is it the government in power that created the division or forced them to march to INEC headquarters to exhibit their ignorance?

For Peter Obi to be responding to the comment where the National Chairman referred to the governor as being dwarfy in knowledge, we want to say clearly that there is no action without a reaction. The National Chairman was only responding to a pejorative comment made by the governor wherein he referred to the National Chairman as 'ma********ng'.

The governor neither retracted nor apologized for that reckless statement. He showed utter disrespect to the constituted authority of the party; to the man who went out of his way to help him achieve his ambition to be a governor.

If the governor is not limited or dwarfy in knowledge, he would have appreciated the import of the Supreme Court judgement which practically resolved the crisis in the party but these men were only blinded by their inordinate desire to wrestle the party from the present leadership.

The party leadership has moved on since the Supreme Court judgement and we are working hard to reposition the party, to restore confidence in our members, and prevent further membership hemorrhage being witnessed across virtually all opposition parties in Nigeria today. We therefore think that it is improper for any member of the party, who means well for the party, to continue to make such unguided statements.

Labour Party will never go into any alliance with any other party to betray our candidates. We had every opportunity in 2023 to do so, but we chose to stand by Peter Obi and even Alex Otti before and even after the general election, when their matters were in court, but we were very consistent because of the bigger picture. And now that they have failed in their plot to dislodge a lawful leadership, they have simply resorted to blackmail instead of showing gratitude.

One takeaway from the Obi's interview is that he has acknowledged that Abure is the National Chairman of the Labour Party as he clearly stated. We are therefore calling on Peter Obi and other aggrieved members of the party to understand and digest the fact that Barrister Julius Abure leadership has come to stay and nothing can change that.

2025 CHILDRENS DAY CELEBRATION - LABOUR PARTY FELICITATES WITH ALL THE CHILDREN

-“Stand Up, Speak Up; Building a Bully-Free Generation”

Today, we join millions of people across the world to celebrate our children. We celebrate the boundless potential and creativeness of every Nigerian child. The curiosity and determination of our children are the light that brightens our paths to a brighter future as a nation.

The Labour Party remains one political party that recognizes the importance of children in nation-building, practically reflective in our slogan of papa, mama, and pikin. We believe that our children are the leaders of tomorrow, and hence, stable political institutions must be handed over to them to enjoy democracy.

Our children deserve to grow in an environment that is free from bully, where their voices are heard and their rights protected.

Our children deserve good and quality education that will place them on a platform to compete with their counterparts across the world.

Our children deserve good healthcare, good learning environments, and effective educational curricula that will encourage innovativeness in our schools.

The Labour Party remains committed to creating opportunities and promoting policies that nurture the talents of a Nigerian child and support their aspirations.

Together, we are building a society where every child can thrive safely and not afraid to dream big.

On this special day of International Children's Day 2025, we urge every Nigeria parent (papa and mama) to help our children shine, grow, and explore to become whatever they wish to become.

Our children are the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow, and we are incredibly proud of them.

Happy Children’s Day 2025

STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY

2027: Labour Party Not Celebrating Obi's Declaration, Declares Presidential Ticket Open
.. Obi's coalition project an affront to Party leadership

The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to the news trending in the media that the party is "celebrating" that its candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has declared his intention to run on the platform of the party in 2027. I want to state emphatically that I was quoted out of context and therefore, the impression conveyed by the news was erroneous, inaccurate and does not in any way reflect the position and mood in the party.

First, while we are not opposed to anybody running under the platform of the Labour Party in the 2027 general election, we need to make it categorically clear that the party has a long standing rule on how its candidates shall emerge and automatic ticket is not one of the routes.

Recall that at the party's National Convention in 2024, the party had erroneously granted automatic tickets to our former Presidential candidate and the only governor of the party, however, that decision has since been rescinded and reversed after consulting the statute books.

Second, His Excellency, Peter Obi, hours after he spoke of his intention to run under the Labour Party, was on Sunday (yesterday) seen in a meeting of a pro-coalition group in Abuja without the permission and consent of the Labour Party leadership. This to us is really confusing and we think that Peter Obi has not come to terms with his intentions for the 2027 presidential race.

We have consistently said that Labour Party will not go into any coalition or merger of any sort ahead of 2027 general election, therefore Obi's continued association with the coalition is not only distasteful but unacceptable to the party. It is also an affront to the party leadership and we view his position as a total disregard to the party's right to make decision bidding its affairs.

We are therefore by this statement letting Nigerians know that the presidency for 2027 is open to anyone who wants to run under the platform of the party.

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY

2027: Labour Party to provide more opportunities for women to contest elections - Abure

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure has stated the party will give more opportunities for women participation and opportunities in the elections.

Abure while speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the Aju Morgan Elumelu Foundation (AMEF) noted that leadership is a major challenge bedeviling the country hence women must collaborate to take over leadership positions in the country.

According to Abure, the Labour Party has taken the lead in appointing women in political leadership positions adding that the party has deliberately created opportunities for women to participate, not just in the affairs of the party, but have also given them opportunity to run for offices, hence the 2027 elections will not be different.

"I want to assure you that by 2027, God sparing our lives under our leadership. We'll provide more opportunities for women. We appreciate the fact that culturally, economically, financially, there are several inhibitions against women's participation.

"I want to assure you that the Labour Party is ready and determined to break those challenges that will encourage women to participate.". he said.

The Chief Executive Officer, AMEF, Amb. Aju Elumelu on her part lamented low representation of women in leadership positions however appealed to President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders in the polity to ensure 35% women's representation and empowerment in leadership positions.

"The goal here is to have women in leadership, elective, appointed positions not just in politics but across board.

"We're not here to get mad or agitate but I'm asking you, President Bola Tinubu to help us. We don't have gloves to fight. We're just asking you guys to think about us, everyone needs to be involved because we only have a measly percentage".

National Women Leader of Labour Party, Dudu Manuga stressed that space for women in leadership, governance and politics has been shrinking over the years but maintained that bills for special seats for women should be passed into law to enable women's involvement in leadership positions.

"I have never seen this kind of effort coming together to see that we have more women in the legislature. So I think if we can have that bill passed and we'll continue with the aggressive advocacy and mobilization, we'll get it right this time around".

Manuga however called for collaboration of women at all levels in government to ensure the passage of the bill.

"What we now need to do is to encourage women in every state to meet their legislators and discuss with them.

"Let us lobby for this thing so that we get everybody to be on the same page and have it passed but for now the political parties have a long way to go", she added.

STATEMENT FROM LABOUR PARTY

Ajero led NLC destabilizing Labour Party, not government - Party Reacts

The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to yet another illegal and purported stakeholders meeting that was held today by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC led by Comrade Joe Ajero in cohort with the Nenadi Usman and others, wherein they alleged that the Labour Party is being destabilized by the federal government because of the potential of the party.

The NLC President, Ajero who is now sounding like a broken record, also restated his resolve to invade unannounced the national and state Secretariats of the Labour Party, with his armies, with the intention to take over the party forcefully.

We must state clearly and categorically that if there is any person or organization that has destabilized the Labour Party or who is working to destabilize the party, it is no other person than Joe Ajero and the NLC.

We must also state here that after the general election in 2023, the party has no issues at all, we had no faction and we had no major disagreement in the party. It was Ajero who went ahead to illegally, unprofessionally and unconstitutionally set up a so-called Transition Committee which went all over the place making noice and debasing the image of the party.

It was the same Committee set up by Ajero that was going to INEC everyday, constituting nuisance, all in attempt to destabilize the party, mobilizing people, including old and retired men, including Abdulawaheed Omar, Comrade Ejiofor, Lawson Osagie and Prof Theophilus Ndubaku, men who should be resting after many years of serving their fatherland, to go against the interest of the party.

Nigerians all over, have asked Ajero to concentrate on his primary assignment to fight for the welfare of workers. The regulatory body in charge of the Labour Union in the Ministry of Labour has also publicly admonished Ajero to excuse himself from matters concerning politics and to face his legitimate assignment as a defender of workers right.

We put it on record that Ajero's led NLC in all its ramifications has failed the Nigerian workers as shown by his last May Day speech. Today, Nigeria workers are oppressed, the economy is not working, there are unfair practices against workers, and nobody speaks for the oppressed workers in Nigeria, yet Ajero is busy plotting his future political ambition and toiling with the welfare of workers.

Over the past few years, instead of the NLC to be in support of the party, and for the party to draw strength from the Labour movement as it's done in some Scandinavian countries such as in Brazil, Australia etc, what we found in Nigeria is a reversed approach were the NLC which ought to be a source of strength, is constituting itself as a destabilizing factor for the Labour Party.

Since 2015, this same NLC was the one that set up the Caretaker Committee that is unknown to the party constitution headed by one Salisu Mohammed. If there is any group or persons who have worked against the interest of the Labour Party, it is NLC and Joe Ajero. So he should not shift the blame to any person, he should squarely take responsibility for what ever is happening in the party today.

We are also calling on all genuine members of the Labour Party to distance themself from the illegal activities of the Nenadi Usman group and their ploy to manipulate unsuspecting party members from parting with their hard earned money through an illegal Congresses they are planning. They do not have the powers to conduct any party activity, congresses inclusive. Be warned.

PRESS RELEASE FROM LABOUR PARTY

Arrest, investigate, Reps Ogene for cyber-bully, publishing fake reports allegedly from AGF, Labour Party tells IGP
.. To expel Ogene, initiate his recall

The leadership of the Labour Party has called on the Police high command to immediately invite and interrogate Hon Afam Victor Ogene, to disclose the source of fake document he is parading in the social media purportedly obtained from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The party has also threatened to expel the already suspended lawmaker and to also initiate a recall by his constituents for his misplaced priority and poor performance as a lawmaker elected under the platform of the Labour Party.

The party in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh also threatened to seek legal action against Hon. Ogene for withholding and enriching himself from monitory contributions from Labour Party lawmakers to the party leadership.

According to Ifoh, Hon. Ogene had attempted to cyber-bully the AG, the Police and the leadership of the Labour Party in what is clearly a political matter. While spreading a fake document purportedly obtained from the office of the AGF, Ogene in a statement also attacked the credibility of the Force by inferring that the police is incapable of discharging its responsibilities.

"It is very clear that Hon Ogene is acting in bad fate because he has been suspended from the party for his incapability to lead the party Caucus in the National Assembly and for tampering with the funds contributed by LP members in the NASS meant for the use of the party. Up till this moment, Ogene is yet to account for the monies contributed by the legislators which are in his care.

"The purported document he is circulating is fake because such a classified document, if genuine is not meant to be within his reach or in the public domain. A classified document which should be with the IGP or the Minister of Justice cannot be in the possession of Ogene. The purported document has no CTC, it is fake and members of the public should disregard it.

"For us, we have a Certified True Copy of the Police investigation report which has cleared us from all allegations of forgery. Allegations of forgery can only be proved by forensic and hand writing analysts .

"We ask the police to immediately arrest and question Ogene on the source of the fake document he is parading, because he neither works in the AGF or IGP's office. He is expected to contribute in making laws in the National Assembly, how come he is now privy of classified documents from the IGP and AGG's office. If therefore any of such documents is in existence, IGP should interrogate him."

Obiora Ifoh further said, "All these are politically motivated because he has been suspended from the party. Ogene has resorted to fighting dirty. He and his sponsors had expected that by now, Abure leadership would have been terminated but they were surprised at the Supreme Court's ruling which put paid to their evil intentions. Today, Abure has continued to be in the driving seat and the camp of our detractors is in disarray.

"Last week, they went for court order-shopping in Zamfara, that failed. Today, he has gone to reopen a case that has been closed and forgotten, leveraging on the social media to embarrass the office of the Attorney General and the IGP. Who knows what is up next in their sleeves.

"But if Hon. Ogene continues in this trajectory, we will have no choice but to expel him from the party. We will also institute his recall from his constituency because he is a disservice to the people of his constituency. "

End.
