The Women Police Conference concluded on a high note, marking another significant milestone in advancing leadership, collaboration, and excellence in policing. The conference brought together dedicated women in law enforcement to share knowledge, inspire innovation, strengthen partnerships, and reaffirm their commitment to safer communities. Today marks the start of an exciting journey of learning, growth, and transformation as we commence our Leadership and Change Management course. STATE POLICE STEERING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN HOSTS PLATEAU STATE COMMITTEE ON STATE POLICE
The Plateau State Committee on State Police led by its Chairman, DIG Habila Joshak (rtd), today paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Steering Committee on State Police and Coordinator of the Nigeria Police Reform Secretariat, Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and advance discussions on the proposed establishment of state police in Nigeria.
During the visit, members of the committee commended the Chairman for his leadership and commitment to the initiative. They reaffirmed their dedication to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing security, promoting community policing, and ensuring the successful implementation of policies that will improve public safety.
Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement, dialogue, and cooperation in developing an effective state policing framework that addresses the unique security needs of the states while upholding constitutional principles and national unity.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing reforms that will contribute to improved security and safer communities across Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.

WOMEN POLICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME CONCLUDES WITH RENEWED COMMITMENT TO GENDER-INCLUSIVE POLICING
The Women Police Leadership Programme successfully concluded with a colourful closing ceremony, marking the end of an intensive capacity-building initiative designed to strengthen the leadership, strategic management, and professional competencies of women officers in the Nigeria Police Force.
The programme, funded by the German Government, implemented through the technical partnership of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and delivered in collaboration with the GS Foundation and CLEEN Foundation, brought together women police officers from across the country to enhance their leadership capacity and prepare them for greater responsibilities within the Force.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions covering transformational leadership, ethical decision-making, strategic communication, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, mentoring, gender-responsive policing, and institutional leadership. The training also provided opportunities for networking, peer learning, and the exchange of experiences among participants and facilitators.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director, Directorate of Medical Services of the Nigeria Police Force, AIG Nkechi Eze, representing the IGP, commended the participants for their dedication, resilience, and active engagement throughout the programme. She emphasized that empowering women within law enforcement institutions is critical to building a more effective, accountable, and inclusive police service capable of responding to citizens' diverse security needs.

Over the last few days, Police Trainers drawn from various Nigeria Police Training Colleges and Schools have been equipped with the understanding of modern policing principles, contemporary training methodologies as captured in the New Police Training Manual for Recruits Constables.
The workshop also explored leadership and instructional methodologies for police trainers. Facilitators emphasized the importance of balancing mentorship-based approaches with command-and-control structures necessary within paramilitary organizations. Trainers were encouraged to develop critical thinking, adaptability, participatory learning environments, and problem-solving skills among recruits through interactive teaching methods, group discussions, and scenario-based exercises.
A significant component of the programme focused on the new Police Training Manual for Recruit Constables. The manual was presented as a modern, competency-based curriculum containing 49 modules designed to equip recruits with legal, ethical, technological, investigative, and community-oriented policing competencies. The curriculum integrates practical learning methods such as role plays, case studies, simulations, and scenario-based exercises, while aligning with key legal frameworks including the Police Act 2020, ACJA 2015, Cybercrimes Act, VAPP Act, and Terrorism Prevention Act.
The training covered a broad range of liberal and professional studies modules, including communication skills, statistics, information technology, cybercrime, artificial intelligence, psychology, geography, first aid, hazardous substances, mental health, gender and disability inclusion, sexual exploitation and abuse prevention, and serious organized crime prevention. These modules were designed to produce officers who are technologically aware, emotionally intelligent, ethically grounded, community-oriented, and professionally competent.
The programme is funded by the Government of Germany and implemented through a collaborative partnership involving the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Global Security Sector Reform Foundation (GS-Foundation), and the CLEEN Foundation.

Another Train-the-Trainers Programme Kicks Off

Anither Batch of the Train-the-Trainers Programme has started. It brings together police trainers from Nigeria Police Colleges and Schools nationwide. The goal is to build capacity and professional competence so trainers can effectively teach new Recruit Constables using the updated Police Training Manual. Participants are to be lectured on communication, leadership, and facilitation skills through interactive sessions and practical exercises. Competent trainers create a multiplier effect cascading knowledge to recruits and driving institutional national growth. This is part of ongoing Nigeria Police Force reforms. PRS activities are funded by the German Federal Government via the SPAAT project, implemented by UNDP with GS Foundation and CLEEN Foundation providing technical support.
