NAQS, BSI EXPLORE SUPPORT FOR STRENGTHENING SPS PROCESSES

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe, today received a team from the British Standards Institution (BSI), led by Mr. Riccardo Benvenuti, Lead Project Manager, International Projects, at the NAQS Headquarters in Abuja.

The Comptroller General appreciated the BSI team for the visit and provided an update on the status of NAQS laboratories. He also highlighted key areas where support and intervention are required to strengthen the Service’s laboratory capacity and enhance effective service delivery.

Mr. Benvenuti, in his opening remarks, provided insights into the Growth, Jobs and Trade (GJT) Standards Programme, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). He stated that the meeting was aimed at introducing the programme and identifying critical areas where NAQS requires support to strengthen its Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) processes and contribute to Nigeria’s National Quality Infrastructure.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of support and collaboration towards strengthening Nigeria’s SPS systems and improving agricultural trade facilitation.
