MSH AND ALGON MEETING ON PEECH IN NIGERIA.
The Program for Equitable Expansion of Community-Based Health Workers (PEECH) in Nigeria is a health workforce strengthening initiative designed to increase access to quality primary healthcare services, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Nigeria.
The program focuses on recruiting, training, reskilling, and supporting community health workers while creating employment opportunities for young people.
Key Objectives:
Expand access to primary healthcare services in rural and underserved communities.
Strengthen the community health workforce through training, supervision, accreditation, and career development.
Improve maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, and community health outcomes.
Create employment opportunities for youth within the healthcare sector.
Support Nigeriaโs Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals through stronger community-based health systems.
Expected Impact:
Upskilling and reskilling of approximately 44,000 community health workers across 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by 2028.
Improved healthcare coverage in underserved communities.
Enhanced workforce planning, supervision, and retention of health workers.
Strengthened collaboration between federal, state, and local government health institutions.

Increase the number of trained community health workers at ward and community levels.
Improve immunization, maternal health, disease surveillance, and health promotion activities.
Reduce pressure on primary healthcare facilities through community-based service delivery.
Strengthen grassroots healthcare systems and community engagement.
