The (NASC) and (NAPRI), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Seed System of Forage and Pasture Crops at the NASC Headquarters.
The MoU marks a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s forage and pasture seed system to support sustainable livestock production, improve feed availability, and enhance national food security. The partnership demonstrates the commitment of NASC and NAPRI to advancing agricultural development through research, innovation, and institutional collaboration.
As part of the agreement, NASC and NAPRI will work together in key areas including research and development, seed production, certification, quality assurance, capacity building, and the dissemination of improved forage and pasture crop varieties to farmers and livestock producers nationwide. The collaboration is expected to boost the availability of high-quality forage seeds, encourage private sector participation, and establish a more coordinated and efficient forage seed value chain in Nigeria.
During the signing ceremony held at the NASC Headquarters, stakeholders emphasized the importance of the partnership in addressing challenges related to livestock feeding, pasture development, and sustainable animal production. They noted that strengthening the forage and pasture seed system is essential to improving livestock productivity and supporting the economic growth of the agricultural sector.
The partnership between NASC and NAPRI further reflects a shared vision of promoting sustainable agricultural practices and developing a resilient seed system capable of meeting the growing demands of Nigeria’s livestock industry.
