CONDOLENCE MESSAGE BY DISTINGUISHED SENATOR IBRAHIM MOHAMMED BOMAI ON THE PASSING OF HAJIYA FATIMA MAIRIGA, DEPUTY WOMEN LEADER, APC YOBE STATE.

It is with a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Allah SWT that I received the sad news of the sudden passing of our dear sister and committed leader, Hajiya Fatima Mairiga of Fune Local Government Area.

Hajiya Mairiga was more than a politician. She was a pillar of service, compassion, and dedication to our people.

For over two decades, she distinguished herself in active politics with humility, courage, and unwavering loyalty. She served meritoriously as SSA on Local Government to H.E. Governor Ibrahim Geidam, as Zone 'B' Zonal Women Leader, and at the time of her death, as the Deputy State Women Leader of the APC in Yobe State. In every capacity she served, she brought her trademark energy, wisdom, and commitment to the growth of our party and the welfare of our people.

Beyond politics, Hajiya Mairiga was a successful businesswoman and a renowned philanthropist. Through her Mairiga Charity Foundation, she touched countless lives. She was a mother to the poor, a sponsor of children in need of education, and a source of food and support to families during their most difficult times. Her doors were never closed to those who needed help.

At just 41 years of age, her passing is a painful and irreplaceable loss. The people of Fune Local Government, the entire APC family in Yobe State, and women across Zone 'B' have lost a tireless mobilizer, a bridge-builder, and a strong voice for the vulnerable.

We will greatly miss her counsel, her generosity, and her steadfast loyalty to our party and to the development of Yobe State.

On behalf of myself, my family, and the good people of Yobe Zone 'B', I extend my deepest condolences to her immediate family; His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State; the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka; the entire APC family in the State; and the good people of Fune LGA and Yobe State over this monumental loss.

I pray that Almighty Allah forgives her shortcomings, grants her Jannatul Firdaus, and gives her family, the people of Fune, the APC, and the entire state the fortitude to bear this great loss. Amin.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.

On behalf of myself, my family, and the good people of Yobe South Senatorial District, I heartily congratulate His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Ibn Grema II the Emir of Tikau on his conferment of a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Rural Development by the Yobe State University, Damaturu.

This remarkable achievement is a reflection of His Royal Highness’s commitment to learning, service, and development. It is made even more significant by the fact that it builds upon his earlier service to the same institution as a staff member and to his academic foundation as a holder of B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Agricultural Economics from Bayero University Kano.

His Highness’s journey from the academia at Yobe State University to the revered throne of Tikau Emirate, and now to attaining a Ph.D, stands as a true example of the fusion of scholarship, royalty, and dedication to rural transformation.

I am confident that this new academic milestone will further strengthen His Royal Highness’s leadership and enhance his contributions to rural development, agriculture, education, and the wellbeing of our people in Tikau Emirate,Yobe South and Yobe State.

I once more congratulate His Royal Highness on this milestone achievement and pray to the Almighty Allah to grant him more wisdom, good health, and a long and peaceful reign for the progress of Tikau Emirate as well as our good people of Yobe South.Amin.

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of an octogenarian and one of our most revered royal fathers, His Royal Highness Alhaji Tijjani Saleh, the Emir of Gazargamu. His death is a monumental loss, not only to the Gazargamu Emirate but to Yobe State and Nigeria as a whole.

His Royal Highness lived a life of selfless service. He contributed immensely to the progress and development of both the defunct Borno State and Yobe State. He served meritoriously as a teacher, judicial officer, grassroots advocate, elected Chairman of Geidam Local Government, Honourable Commissioner, and member of the State Executive Council in both States. He also served as a one-time Director of the Bank of the North. In every role, he demonstrated integrity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.

As Emir, his long and peaceful reign became a symbol of unity and stability as a custodian of culture, a bridge-builder and a voice of harmony in times of crisis. His counsel and leadership contributed significantly to the peace and unity of not only his people but of the entire Yobe State.

On behalf of myself, my family, and the good people of Yobe South Senatorial District, I extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, the Executive Governor of Yobe State; the government and people of Yobe State; the Gazargamu Emirate Council; and the bereaved family.

May the Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and give all of us the fortitude to bear this great loss. Amin.

Address Delivered at the Stakeholders’ Meeting — Saturday, 17th May 2026

His Excellency, the Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni,

His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana,

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Buba Machio,

Distinguished colleagues and members of the House of Representatives,

Party Chairman,

Highly distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

The great people of our state,

I greet you all.

Today, I stand before you with gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people we all serve.

Leadership is not about personal ambition alone; it is about sacrifice, wisdom, timing, and putting the interests of the people above self. After wide consultations with stakeholders, respected leaders, supporters, and citizens across our state, I made the difficult but necessary decision to step down from the gubernatorial race and accept the call to serve in the senatorial contest.

This decision was not made out of fear, weakness, or lack of capacity. It was made out of maturity, patriotism, and commitment to unity and progress. Sometimes, true leadership is knowing when to adjust strategy for the greater good of the people.

Yes, there was enormous pressure from many quarters. But beyond the pressure, I listened carefully to the voices of our people, to party leaders, to community elders, to young people who desire stability and victory, and to citizens who want effective representation and development above division.

I chose peace over conflict.
I chose unity over personal interest.
I chose the future of our people over individual ambition.

And let me say clearly: stepping into the senatorial race is not a step backward. It is another platform to fight for our people, to defend their interests, to attract development, empower our youths, support our women, and ensure our communities have a stronger voice at the national level.

To all my supporters who believed in my gubernatorial aspiration, I thank you deeply. Your love, loyalty, and sacrifices will never be forgotten. I ask you today to remain steadfast, united, and committed to our shared vision.

Politics should never divide us beyond repair. Elections will come and go, but the people must always remain the priority.

I remain fully committed to service, integrity, and the progress of our state and nation. Together, we will continue this journey with renewed strength and greater purpose.

May God bless you all.
May God bless our party.
And may God bless our state and nation.

I Refuse to Be Defined by Ethnicity in My Politics

I need to say this clearly and from the heart, my politics has nothing to do with ethnicity or tribal lines. I refuse to reduce my beliefs, my values, and my vision for society to what language I speak.

To me, that way of thinking is retrogressive. It keeps us stuck in cycles of division, suspicion, and missed opportunities. It belongs to a past we should have outgrown a past where identity mattered more than ideas, and loyalty mattered more than progress.

I believe in leadership with purpose, policies with direction, and a future built on competence, integrity, and vision. Anything less is a distraction. Anything less holds us back.

We cannot keep choosing sides based on tribe and expect a different outcome. Real change demands that we rise above that.

My stance is simple, I stand for progress, not division. For vision, not sentiment. For a future that includes everyone, not one that fragments us.

That’s the politics I choose

The Illegality and Dictatorial Nature of the So-Called Yobe Consensus

Our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Headquarters, in its wisdom and fairness, commenced the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2027 general election on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and is scheduled to close on Monday, May 4, 2026.

However, a group of self-imposed “dictators” announced their so-called consensus candidate on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, In doing so, they have effectively looked the people of Yobe State in the face and declared that even if one purchases the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the governorship position after April 29th, 2026 or on the official closing date of Monday, May 4, 2026, as stipulated by the APC timetable and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and INEC’s revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, the decision of the so-called “Emperor” has already excluded such aspirants from the contest.

This so-called Yobe consensus has rendered the APC timetable and guidelines for the 2027 governorship contest in Yobe effectively of no effect for any aspirant who has purchased or intends to purchase the governorship forms before the official closing date of Monday, May 4, 2026. This is clearly an attack on democracy, fairness, and justice, and a slap on the faces of the masses of Yobe State.

The procedures and guidelines of our great party regarding consensus are clear:

i) Only aspirants duly screened and cleared by the Party’s Screening Committees shall participate in the consensus process.

ii) The process must be voluntary and conducted in good faith to ensure inclusiveness and fairness.

iii) Each cleared aspirant must execute a written consent indicating:
(a) Voluntary withdrawal from the race; and
(b) Unconditional support for the agreed consensus candidate.

The so-called Yobe consensus is, therefore, a clear violation of the APC’s guidelines and constitution, as well as the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The reported anointment of the SSG by the former governor of Yobe State represents a clear assault on democratic principles. It is deeply troubling and highly irregular for a single individual, acting in isolation, to influence the leadership of millions without due process or respect for the will of the people.

Such actions are unacceptable and undemocratic. They contradict the core values of fairness, representation, and collective decision making. Yobe State belongs to its people not to any individual or select group and its leadership must reflect the genuine voice and choice of its citizens.

We strongly reject any form of imposition, injustice, or oppression. We call on all relevant stakeholders to uphold democratic norms and ensure that governance remains transparent, inclusive, and accountable.

As citizens, i remain committed to lawful and peaceful means of expressing our concerns. I will continue to stand firm in defense of our rights and work collectively to safeguard the integrity of our democracy. No amount of intimidation, segregation, division, or exclusion will be accepted.

We reject these negative tendencies in the interest of unity, justice, and the progress of our dear state.

Long live Yobe State.

Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai.
