Iconic landmarks across the world lit up in blue and yellow colours to mark the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence 🇺🇦

Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world celebrate the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence and Ukraine’s National Flag Day 🇺🇦

Ukrainian flag, music, culture and traditions brought people together at concerts, exhibitions and festivals organised by Ukraine’s diplomatic missions around the globe.

Though these events took place in different cities and countries, they were united by a shared sense of love for Ukraine and solidarity with our country 💙💛

Today, Ukraine brought home 10 servicemen of our Armed Forces and the National Guard – in a special stage of the exchange conducted through Belarus. All of them had defended Ukraine in the Donetsk region and had been listed as missing.

Ukraine continues to search for every name and to do everything possible to free those who remain in captivity and bring them home. We thank everyone working every day to make this possible.

In his Independence Day address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia made one fundamental mistake in its plans for Ukraine: it underestimated the Ukrainian people.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also highlighted the courage of Ukraine’s defenders, the resilience of Ukrainian society, the growing strength of our defence industry, and the need for continued international support.

“Over these 35 years, we have heard many predictions about ourselves. And almost all of them proved wrong. They said the state would not make it, that we would not withstand the upheavals. And on February 24, they said we would hold out for only a matter of days. But we have held out all this time – all this time of the war for independence,” he stressed.

“We are all human. We all want to live through times that are not historic, but simply quiet, peaceful, safe times. In a peaceful Ukraine. A Ukraine that made it. That stood its ground. That preserved itself and its independence. That is what we are fighting for.”

Поколіннями українці плекали спільну мрію про незалежну Україну. 24 серпня 1991 року вона стала реальністю.

Сьогодні ми знову об’єднані спільною метою – і цей зв’язок живе попри відстані. У різних містах, країнах і навіть на різних континентах українці залучають підтримку світу, збагачують українську культуру, волонтерять і підтримують одне одного.

Сьогодні ми відзначаємо 35 років відновлення незалежності України та вшановуємо нашу багатовікову історію.

Мільйони українців до нас зробили цей день можливим – творили й захищали нашу мову, культуру та гідність, передаючи крізь покоління щире прагнення свободи.

Але нас об’єднує не лише спільна спадщина. Мільйони українців роблять День Незалежності можливим сьогодні та на роки вперед – і за це ми безмежно вдячні. Ми славимо наших захисників та захисниць і пам’ятаємо всіх, хто віддав життя за незалежність України.

У цей святковий день і щодня наша сила – у єдності.

Ми також вдячні партнерам, які підтримують Україну та працюють разом із нами заради тривалого миру. Натхненні разом будувати майбутнє – вільну та успішну європейську Україну.

Слава Україні! Героям Слава! 🇺🇦

Today, we celebrate 35 years of Ukraine’s restored independence and honour our centuries-long history.

Millions of Ukrainians before us made this day possible – nurturing and defending our language, culture and dignity, and carrying forward an enduring desire for freedom.

But our unity is rooted not only in our shared heritage. Millions of Ukrainians make Independence Day possible today and for years to come – and for that we are immensely grateful. We honour our defenders and remember all those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence.

On this celebratory day, and on every day, Ukrainians have each other.
Our gratitude also goes to every partner who stands with Ukraine and works with us towards a lasting peace. And we are inspired to build a future together – a free, secure, innovative and prosperous European Ukraine.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes! 🇺🇦

Today, millions of Ukrainians have a shared dream too – and we turn it into action every day. Defending our country, rebuilding what was destroyed, caring for one another, and shaping the future with innovations.
