Today, the KOICA Nigeria Office welcomed an independent evaluation team from Korea for the inception briefing of the Post-Project Evaluation Survey of the Smart School Project in Nigeria.

The meeting, attended by KOICA Country Director Mr. Kim Eunsub, KOICA Nigeria staff, and members of the evaluation team led by Professor Wang, marked the beginning of a comprehensive assessment of the project’s performance, outcomes, operational status, and sustainability mechanisms.

This evaluation reflects KOICA’s continued commitment to accountability, learning, and ensuring that development interventions create lasting impact for beneficiaries and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in Nigeria.

We look forward to the insights and recommendations that will help strengthen future cooperation and development initiatives.

Strengthening Collaboration and Advancing Alumni Impact

On Friday, 22nd May 2026, the KOICA Nigeria Office, led by Country Director Mr. Eunsub Kim, hosted the South Korea International Cooperation Association of Nigeria (SKICAN) Executive Committee for an engaging dinner aimed at deepening partnership and aligning priorities for the year.

Mr. Joseph Oboh, alongside three other alumni executives, attended the session where discussions focused on planned activities, ongoing alumni projects, and key collaborative initiatives for the year. Today marked the final day of the 3-day post-project assessment visit to the three KOICA-supported Smart Schools. The KOICA Country Director, Mr. KIM Eunsub, led the KOICA–UBEC team on a monitoring assessment visit to the UBEC Model Smart School, Bauchi State.

The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), represented by the Board’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), commended KOICA’s commitment to advancing smart education in Nigeria, particularly in Bauchi State. He further highlighted the continued support provided to the school by Bauchi SUBEB in the areas of internet connectivity and power supply through the provision of diesel for the generator, while also calling for additional support from KOICA and UBEC to address existing challenges.

Today marked Day 2 of the 3-day post-project assessment visit to the three KOICA-supported Smart Schools. The KOICA Country Director, Mr. KIM Eunsub, led the KOICA–UBEC team on a monitoring assessment visit to the UBEC Model Smart School, Tarda, Ungogo, Kano State.

The visit provided another valuable opportunity to assess the operational status of the school, with particular focus on equipment utilization, maintenance conditions, institutional capacity, and identifying possible areas for follow-up support.

The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), ably represented by the Board Secretary, Hajiya Amina Umar, commended KOICA’s commitment to advancing smart education in Nigeria, particularly in Kano State. She further noted that efforts are already underway to address some of the school’s key challenges, especially in the areas of electricity, internet connectivity, and water supply.

The Acting Director of the Teacher Professional Development Department, Mrs. Patience Obasi, also emphasized the importance of a multi-stakeholder collaborative approach to ensuring effective and sustainable solutions to the identified challenges.

Yesterday, KOICA Country Director, Mr. KIM Eunsub, led the KOICA–UBEC team on a post-project monitoring assessment visit to the KOICA-supported UBE Smart School, Karshi, FCT.

The mission was conducted to assess the operational and sustainability status of selected Smart Schools supported under the KOICA Smart Education Project. The visit focused on evaluating equipment utilization, maintenance conditions, institutional capacity, and identifying possible areas for follow-up support.

During the visit, the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) expressed appreciation to KOICA for its continued support to the school. She further noted that some of the challenges identified during the assessment would require a multi-stakeholder collaborative approach involving the FCT SUBEB, UBEC, and KOICA for effective resolution.

The KOICA Nigeria Office delegation, led by the Senior Deputy Country Director, recently visited the Nigeria–Korea Model School (NKMS) for a Post-Project Monitoring and Evaluation exercise.

Established through the partnership between the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of the Republic of Korea, NKMS was conceived as a model public education institution aimed at improving access to high-quality, ICT-driven, and inclusive basic education in Nigeria.

Since its inception, the project has stood as a significant milestone in advancing smart and multimedia-based learning within the Nigerian public education system. The school has consistently demonstrated excellence in academic performance, digital learning integration, teacher capacity development, and inclusive education, while also serving as a benchmark for innovation in public schooling.

The monitoring visit provided an opportunity to assess the long-term impact, sustainability, operational effectiveness, infrastructure condition, and continued relevance of the project in line with its original objectives. The delegation engaged with school management and stakeholders to review achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and future support needs.

The Start-up Digital Innovation Academy Project successfully conducted a high-level invitational training programme in Korea from April 26 to May 4, 2026.

The training was built around three key pillars:

🔹 Field Research: Observing South Korea’s advanced policy frameworks and infrastructure supporting startups and MSMEs.
🔹 Governance: Strengthening PSC and PIU governance structures for effective implementation of the ACE Project.
🔹 Cultural Exchange: Experiencing the rich heritage and dynamic innovation ecosystem of the Republic of Korea.

In partnership with the PMC - 숭실대학교(Soongsil University), this programme delivered valuable insights and practical lessons that will help shape Nigeria’s startup ecosystem. The advanced systems and institutional models explored during the training offer a strong blueprint for enhancing entrepreneurship policies and driving innovation-led growth.

Today, the KOICA Nigeria Office held its annual Staff Workshop and Security Training.

The workshop focused on internal knowledge sharing on the new Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy direction of the Korean Government, particularly KOICA’s 2026–2030 Mid-Term Strategy. The new policy direction underscores the need for a more synergized approach to project design, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) in order to achieve maximum and coherent development impact.

Staff also received practical training on the use of satellite phones during emergency situations. The security segment of the workshop culminated in a presentation by a senior official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on current security threats in Nigeria, field mission security management, and emergency response protocols.

Overall, the workshop laid a strong foundation for enhanced institutional learning while reinforcing the importance of safety-first principles in all field engagements.

Today, KOICA convened a working session on the implementation direction of the e-Government Master Plan (e-GMP) v2.0.

The session focused on ensuring policy coherence and strategic alignment between the Digital Economy & e-Governance Bill and the implementation framework of e-GMP 2.0.

Participants included:
🔹 Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) – Minister’s Digital Public Infrastructure Team
🔹 Director, e-Government Department and PMU Members
🔹 PMC Team
🔹 Local Consultants

Overall, the session emphasized the need for the e-GMP to be future-proof and adaptable, ensuring flexibility to accommodate evolving policy directions and positioning the plan as a practical and implementable policy framework.

Today, the KOICA Country Director, Mr. Eunsub KIM, held an inception meeting with visiting Korean experts under the Project for Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria, led by the Project Manager, Dr. Park Hung Kook.

The expert team is in Nigeria to conduct a working session on the implementation direction of the e-Government Master Plan (e-GMP) v2.0.

This session aims to ensure policy coherence and strategic alignment between the Digital Economy & e-Governance Bill and the implementation framework of the e-GMP 2.0.
