Today, in the ancient city of Kano, I am honored to launch a transformative nationwide initiative—the Out-of-School Children Mop-Up Exercise.

Our resolute ambition is to meticulously identify, document, and seamlessly enroll one million out-of-school children into the educational system by September of this year.

This endeavor reflects the steadfast commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ensuring that every Nigerian child is endowed with the fundamental right to quality education.

I eagerly look forward to forging robust partnerships with stakeholders, communities, and allies to realize this noble vision, thereby constructing a luminous and prosperous future for our beloved Nigeria.

It was an honor to lead the prayer for the remembrance of the mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaja Habibatu Mogaji, today. The prayer, organized by Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, brought together numerous dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Speaker House of Representative Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abass, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Governors, Ministers, and other top government officials. Many esteemed ulamas from various Islamic sects were also present, leading recitations from the Holy Quran. I pray that her legacy continues to inspire and bless our nation.

I inaugurated a High-Powered Standing Committee to oversee and coordinate the mop-up exercise for out-of-school children across the country.

The pressing issue of out-of-school children undermines national development and perpetuates poverty and insecurity. In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, this exercise aims to ensure 10 million children are enrolled in school by 2027.

This initiative will provide marginalized children with access to education, reduce inequality, and empower future generations with essential skills and knowledge. Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable Nigeria.

I had the privilege of leading a courtesy visit to the North East Development Commission headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, accompanied by my esteemed management team. We were warmly received by the Managing Director, Muhammadu Alkali, and his dedicated NEDC team.

This strategic visit reaffirms our commitment to fostering collaboration and synergy in advancing transformative development initiatives for Almajiri and out-of-school children across Nigeria. Our discussions centered on deepening our partnership to tackle the critical challenges that hinder access to quality education for vulnerable children, particularly the alarming issue of over two million out-of-school children in Northeast Nigeria.

Together, we are taking bold and decisive steps to address this crisis. A key outcome of our collaboration is the plan to construct a mega school dedicated to Almajiri children in Borno State, with the vision of replicating this model across the northeastern states. This initiative reflects our shared resolve to create sustainable, inclusive, and impactful solutions that empower the next generation through education.

It gladdens my heart to share the urgent strides we are taking to transform the lives of millions of Almajiri and out-of-school children in North-Eastern Nigeria. At the 11th meeting of the North East Governors’ Forum in Damaturu, Yobe State, I presented a clarion call for action to rescue our Almajiri and out-of-school children from the streets.

Their Executive Governors of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, and the Deputy Governor of Bauchi responded with resolute commitment, pledging to collaborate closely with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education.

We cannot ignore the stakes. Failing to address this crisis risks fueling extremism and social vices that threaten our collective future. But by investing in these children—through formal education, vocational training, and technical skills—we pave the surest path to peace, security, and regional recovery. The Governors have vowed to provide office spaces in each state, support enrollment in schools, and promote skill-building programs to empower our youth.

We are not just offering solutions; we are building hope and opportunity for a generation. This is our shared mission, and I am proud to stand with the NEGF in this transformative journey.

I visited a young Almajiri student who recently suffered abuse at the hands of his teacher. My visit was to personally check on his health, offer comfort, and assure him that he is not alone in this trying moment.

On behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Honourable Ministers of Education, and the entire National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, I conveyed our deepest sympathies to him and his family. To further demonstrate our care and support, I presented him with items and cash gifts to aid his recovery and well-being.

Let me be unequivocal: no child in Nigeria will be allowed to suffer abuse at the hands of anyone. This administration, under the leadership of President Tinubu, will not tolerate any form of abuse against our children. We are committed to taking decisive action against perpetrators to ensure justice is served and such acts are deterred. Every child deserves to learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment, and we will work tirelessly to make this a reality.

I also wish to express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, for the proactive measures he has taken to address this issue. His leadership and dedication to the welfare of our children are commendable and serve as an inspiration to us all.

As we move forward, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education remains steadfast in our mission to ensure . We will continue to advocate for the rights of every child, particularly the most vulnerable among us, and work towards a Nigeria where no child is left behind.
