In a Joint news conference held in Kampala on Tuesday 25th August 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO), together with the Ministry of Health officially declared the Republic of Uganda to have successfully interrupted the transmission of the Ebola Disease Outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo Virus.

This follows the completion of 42 consecutive days without a reported new confirmed case; but roughly one month after health officials had declared the end of the outbreak based on Uganda's own internal and trend analysis.

The High Commission remains grateful for the prompt and successful prevention of community spread of the disease in Uganda which was attained through concerted public health measures; and lauds the decision of national authorities to cooperate with neighboring countries to contain the situation.
