NADDC DG Moderates High-Level ECOWAS Panel on Unlocking Investor Commitment to Regional Automotive Industry.

The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, on 5th August 2026 moderated a high-level panel session on Day Two of the ECOWAS Regional Automotive Industry Development Forum in Abuja, where policymakers, manufacturers, regulators and industry leaders explored strategies for attracting investment into automotive manufacturing and assembly across West Africa.

The panel, themed "Unlocking Investor Commitment to Automotive Manufacturing and Assembly Across the ECOWAS Region," examined the policy, regulatory and market reforms needed to stimulate sustainable investment and strengthen the region's automotive industry.

In his opening remarks, Osanipin highlighted the sector's potential to drive industrialisation through local manufacturing, component production, technology transfer, job creation and stronger regional value chains. He noted that despite West Africa's growing vehicle market, challenges such as dependence on imported vehicles, underutilised assembly capacity, fragmented markets, limited local sourcing and policy uncertainty continue to hinder investment.
He stressed the need for predictable policies, harmonised regulations and stronger collaboration between governments, regulators and the private sector to create an enabling environment for long-term investment.

The panel featured the Chairman/CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Chief Innocent Chukwuma; Plant Manager of Japan Motors Ghana, Mr. Mohammed Byrouth; a representative of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Adeyemi Folorunsho; and the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Prof. George Agyei.
Discussions focused on improving policy certainty, strengthening local component manufacturing, supporting SMEs, promoting regional sourcing and harmonising automotive standards and vehicle homologation across ECOWAS Member States to enhance market access and investor confidence.

The session concluded with a collective call for coordinated regional policies that will encourage investment, deepen regional integration and position ECOWAS as a competitive hub for automotive manufacturing and assembly.

NADDC Sensitizes Transporters on E10 Bioethanol Pilot Programme

On 4th August 2026, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has commenced a sensitization programme for transporters participating in the E10 Bioethanol Pilot Programme, reaffirming the Federal Government's commitment to promoting cleaner, more sustainable transportation and strengthening Nigeria's automotive industry.

Speaking at the programme, the Director, Vehicle Electrification Department, Engr. A. N. Ayinde, who represented the Director-General NADDC,Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, welcomed participants and commended the transport unions, NNPC Retail Limited, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), government agencies, technical partners, and selected drivers for supporting the initiative.

He described the E10 Bioethanol Pilot Programme as a major milestone in Nigeria's transition to cleaner energy, explaining that the pilot involves the use of a fuel blend consisting of 10 percent bioethanol and 90 percent Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). According to him, the programme will assess the fuel's technical performance, operational feasibility, environmental benefits, and economic viability under Nigerian conditions, with the findings expected to guide future policies on cleaner transportation fuels.

Engr. Ayinde emphasized that transport operators are critical to the success of the pilot programme, noting that their experiences and feedback will provide valuable data for evaluating the performance of E10 fuel in everyday operations. He urged participants to actively engage in the programme, ask questions, and contribute meaningful feedback throughout the pilot phase.

He further stated that representatives of NNPC Retail Limited would provide participants with detailed information on fuel pricing, designated dispensing stations, product availability, operational readiness, and procedures for accessing E10 fuel, ensuring that all stakeholders are fully prepared for the successful implementation of the pilot.

The Director reaffirmed NADDC's commitment to working with all stakeholders to advance cleaner fuel technologies, improve environmental sustainability, enhance energy security, and support the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria's automotive industry. He thanked participants for their cooperation and encouraged them to approach the programme with professionalism and a shared commitment to the success of this important national initiative.

NADDC Holds Sensitization Workshop on Dealership Registration Portal in Lagos

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria's automotive industry through digital innovation with the commencement of the South- West Zone of the National Sensitization Workshop on the NADDC Dealership Registration Portal, held on Thursday, 23rd July 2026, at Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking at the workshop, the Director-General NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, emphasized that the workshop marks a significant step towards strengthening regulation and advancing the growth of the automotive dealership sub-sector, while describing Lagos as the commercial hub of Nigeria.

The Director-General explained that the Dealership Registration Portal, a key initiative under the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP 2023–2033), will deliver several benefits to the automotive industry. According to him, the portal will:

- Formalize the dealership sub-sector through a centralized, real-time database;
- Improve market monitoring, vehicle verification, and regulatory compliance;
- Connect registered dealers with local vehicle manufacturers and government;
- Enhance dealers' access to financing by increasing their credibility with financial institutions;
- Grant legal recognition to registered dealerships;
- Promote transparency, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and corruption through digitalization; and
- Support evidence-based policymaking while ensuring equal opportunities for both small and large-scale dealers.

Otunba Osanipin urged automotive dealers to embrace the portal and the registration process as a strategic partner for business growth rather than a regulatory burden. He noted that registration would strengthen dealers' participation in national automotive policy development, improve ease of doing business, attract greater investment into the sector, and position Nigeria's automotive industry for global competitiveness. He also encouraged participants to actively engage in the technical sessions and complete their registration, stressing that the future of Nigeria's automotive industry is digital.

The NADDC DG thereafter officially declared the South-West Zone of the National Sensitisation Workshop open in Lagos, expressing confidence that the initiative will strengthen regulation, improve ease of doing business, enhance transparency, and support the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of Nigeria's automotive industry

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, House Committee on Industry, House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, commended NADDC for introducing the centralized Dealership Registration Portal, defining it as a timely initiative that aligns with the objectives of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP 2023–2033). Hon. (Dr) Enitan Badru who was ably represented by the Clerk of the House Committee on Industry, Bar. (Dr) Usman Ibrahim stated that the portal will strengthen planning, policy formulation, regulatory oversight, and reliable data collection while promoting industrialization, job creation, and economic diversification. He assured members of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON) and other stakeholders of the National Assembly's continued support, emphasizing that formalizing dealership operations will protect businesses, boost investor confidence, and expand access to credit, insurance, and global business opportunities.

Also speaking, Prince Ajibola Adedoyin, National President of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), applauded NADDC for introducing the Dealership Registration Portal, adding that the portal is a timely initiative that would formalize the dealership sector, enhance the credibility of genuine dealers, improve consumer confidence, and increase access to government support and financing opportunities. He pledged AMDON's commitment to mobilizing its members nationwide to register on the portal and support the digital transformation of Nigeria's automotive industry.

The workshop featured technical demonstrations and interactive sessions on the NADDC Dealership Registration Portal, providing participants with practical guidance on the registration process and the benefits of joining the national dealership database.

FG Commissions NADDC Automotive Training Centre in Kebbi, Graduates 100 Trainees

In furtherance of the Federal Government's drive to strengthen technical education, youth empowerment, and industrialization in Nigeria's automotive ecosystem, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has commissioned the NADDC Automotive Training Centre (ATC) in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, and graduated 100 participants of the NADDC/Padson Group Nigeria Limited Collaborative Automotive Technical Training Programme.

The event, held on 16th July, 2026, comes barely a month after the commissioning of the Zamfara State Automotive Training Centre on 11th June, 2026, underscoring the Council's commitment to expanding automotive skills development across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, described the Centre as a strategic investment in human capital development and a major milestone in building a skilled workforce to support the growth and modernization of Nigeria's automotive sector. He reaffirmed the Council's commitment to promoting skills acquisition, technology transfer, innovation, and entrepreneurship through Automotive Training Centres established across the country.

Osanipin stated that the Birnin Kebbi Centre is equipped with modern facilities to provide practical, industry-driven training for youths, technicians, artisans, students, and automotive entrepreneurs. He noted that the Centre will promote technical certification, job creation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development while supporting the implementation of the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) and the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the Centre is strategically positioned to deliver training in emerging automotive technologies, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Delivering his special remarks, the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, described the commissioning as another milestone in the Federal Government's drive for industrial development, human capital advancement, and economic transformation. He said the Centre represents a platform for innovation, technical education, entrepreneurship, employment generation, and sustainable economic growth. The Minister further disclosed that the Federal Government is expanding local vehicle production, promoting technology transfer, encouraging the adoption of CNG and EV technologies, and engaging international investors to strengthen Nigeria's automotive value chain.

Representing the Governor of Kebbi State, His Excellency Dr. Nasir Idris, the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, OFR, expressed the Governor's appreciation to NADDC for establishing the Centre in the state. He stated that the presentation of certificates to the graduating trainees symbolized the unlocking of new opportunities and a brighter future for Kebbi youths.

The Deputy Governor noted with pride that the Kebbi Automotive Training Centre is the 24th Automotive Training Centre established by NADDC nationwide. He described the Centre as more than a workshop, but a hub of innovation dedicated to modern vehicle maintenance, advanced automotive mechatronics, and green mobility technologies, particularly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion. According to him, the Centre will equip youths with cutting-edge diagnostic and maintenance skills, preparing them not only for today's jobs but also for the future of transportation in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Governing Board of NADDC, His Eminence, Chief Emma Eneukwu, described the Automotive Training Centre as a landmark investment in Nigeria's automotive future. He stated that the facility would address the shortage of skilled automotive technicians and engineers through practical training in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, CNG conversion, Electric Vehicle (EV) systems, and other emerging automotive technologies, while promoting employment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and support for local vehicle manufacturing and maintenance across the North-West region.

Congratulating the 100 graduating trainees, Otunba Osanipin urged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge responsibly, embrace innovation, and uphold professionalism as ambassadors of technical excellence. He reaffirmed NADDC's commitment to expanding technical training infrastructure and strategic partnerships that will accelerate industrialization, create employment opportunities, empower Nigerian youths, and strengthen Nigeria's automotive ecosystem in line with the Federal Government's vision for sustainable economic growth.

NADDC Engages ALCMAN, Chinese Partners on National Auto Parts Digital Platform.

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has advanced efforts to strengthen Nigeria's automotive industry through a strategic engagement with the Automotive Local Content Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (ALCMAN) and representatives of China's Heija Industrial Group on the development of a “National Auto Parts Digital Platform”.

The meeting, held at the Council's headquarters in Abuja on July 10, 2026, focused on a digital platform that will serve as a centralized database for Nigerian automotive component manufacturers and suppliers. The initiative is designed to improve industry data, promote locally manufactured components, combat counterfeit spare parts and provide investors and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with credible market information.

Speaking during the meeting, ALCMAN National Chairman, Chief Anslem Ilekuba, said the initiative supports NADDC's vision of expanding local component manufacturing through technology transfer and strategic partnerships.

He noted that the lack of reliable industry data has remained a challenge in attracting investment. According to him, the platform will provide verified information on manufacturers and production capacity, giving investors greater confidence in Nigeria's automotive sector. He added that over 4,500 Chinese automotive manufacturers have indicated interest in joining the platform through ALCMAN's partnership with the Heija Industrial Group, creating opportunities for technology transfer and industrial collaboration.

Representatives of the Heija Industrial Group presented the platform's framework, while stakeholders from relevant government agencies made technical contributions to strengthen the initiative.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, commended ALCMAN and its Chinese partners for the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria's automotive value chain.

He stressed that credible industry data is essential for attracting investment, expanding local manufacturing and positioning Nigeria as a competitive automotive hub in Africa. He also requested a comprehensive implementation framework for the Council's technical review.

Osanipin reaffirmed NADDC's commitment to promoting local content development, technology transfer, investment facilitation and the production of globally competitive Made-in-Nigeria automotive components.

NADDC Launches National Automotive Repository Portal to Drive Digital Transformation of Nigeria's Automotive Industry

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) on Wednesday, 8th July, 2026, officially launched the National Automotive Repository Portal (NARP), a landmark digital platform designed to strengthen regulation, improve data management, and enhance ease of doing business within Nigeria's automotive industry.

Speaking at the event held at Radisson Blu hotel Ikeja Lagos, the Director-General, NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin ably represented by the Head of Policy, Planning and Statistics department of the Council, Mr. Nura Sidi described NARP as the digital backbone of Nigeria's automotive ecosystem and a significant milestone in the implementation of the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP 2023–2033). He noted that the platform was developed to address the long-standing challenge of fragmented industry data by providing a centralized digital infrastructure for real-time information, regulatory oversight, and compliance management.

He explained that NARP will digitalize and streamline corporate licensing processes for vehicle assemblers, eliminate manual delays, and provide real-time insights into domestic vehicle assembly capacity, supply trends, and market pricing. According to him, the availability of reliable industry data will support evidence-based policy formulation, attract foreign direct investment, and strengthen Nigeria's automotive value chain.

Further stating that the portal establishes an automated inter-agency digital infrastructure linking key regulatory stakeholders to facilitate the verification of vehicle technical information, validate genuine assembly components, and protect the local automotive industry from the influx of substandard products. He disclosed that several vehicle assemblers have already been successfully onboarded onto the platform, demonstrating the private sector's readiness to embrace digital transformation.

He expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment for providing strategic policy leadership and commended local vehicle assemblers for their continued investments and commitment to the development of Nigeria's automotive industry.

Declaring the platform officially launched, the Director-General, through his representative, called on all stakeholders to utilize NARP as the official rule-based compliance platform for building an inclusive, transparent, standards-driven, and globally competitive automotive industry.

He explained that the platform was developed to eliminate operational bottlenecks associated with fragmented data collection and manual compliance processes. According to him, NARP serves as a centralized compliance engine that digitalizes assembler licensing, automates factory site evaluations, monitors technical inspections in real time, and maintains a secure digital record of every registered vehicle through its unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Nura Sidi emphasized that beyond being an administrative platform, NARP is strategic public infrastructure designed to empower local vehicle assemblers by simplifying regulatory procedures, improving transparency, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, and significantly enhancing ease of doing business within the sector. He encouraged stakeholders to actively participate in the onboarding process and technical demonstrations, noting that the platform marks the beginning of a new era of digital excellence for Nigeria's automotive industry.

The NARP launch is a landmark achievement in Nigeria's automotive journey geared towards building a structured, technology - driven, and globally competitive automotive sector. The event attracted representatives from various licensed vehicle assembly plants across the country, alongside key stakeholders in the automotive industry.

NADDC Reaffirms Commitment to Automotive Development Through Partnership with Cross River State ATRD

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with state governments to accelerate Nigeria’s automotive industrialization, promote local vehicle manufacturing, attract investment and develop a skilled automotive workforce.

This formed the focus of discussions when delegation from the Cross River State Government, led by the Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River State Planning Commission, Dr. Bona Duke, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, at the Council’s Headquarters in Abuja. The visit sought to deepen collaboration in automotive technology development, capacity building, skills acquisition, standardization of automotive practices and the regulation of automobile technicians through the state’s Automobile Technicians Regulatory Department (ATRD).

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Bona Duke reaffirmed the Cross River State Government’s commitment to partnering with NADDC to position the state as a hub for automotive development. He noted that closer collaboration would enhance technical support, specialized training, knowledge sharing and youth empowerment. He also presented proposals for collaboration, including access to development funding for automotive investments and the implementation of a pilot Electric Vehicle (EV) programme using NADDC’s existing EV framework.

Responding, the Director-General, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, commended the Governor of Cross River State for establishing the Automobile Technicians Regulatory Department, describing it as a strategic step towards strengthening technical capacity and automotive regulation. He also acknowledged the department’s leadership for sustaining a productive partnership with the Council. He reaffirmed NADDC’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the state to attract vehicle assembly investments that will drive local manufacturing and technology transfer, particularly in electric mobility. He noted that investment decisions are guided by factors such as the availability of industrial land, proximity to seaports, security and strong government support. He further commended the Cross River State Government for its prompt response to the Council’s requests and its commitment to creating an enabling environment for automotive development initiatives.

Representatives from both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration to promote Made-in-Nigeria vehicles, strengthen technical skills, encourage technology transfer, create employment opportunities and attract strategic investments that will advance Cross River State’s automotive industry while supporting NADDC’s mandate to drive the sustainable development of Nigeria’s automotive sector.

NADDC Receives Bayero University on Courtesy Visit, Strengthens Partnership on EV and CNG Technology

On Monday, 6th July 2026, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) received a high- level delegation from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), at the Council's Headquarters in Abuja. The visit focused on strengthening collaboration between both institutions through the effective utilization of the NADDC Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion Centre established at the University.

Professor Amina expressed the University's appreciation to NADDC for selecting Bayero University as one of the beneficiaries of the intervention. She noted that the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Automotive Engineering Programme provide the ideal environment for the project, adding that the centre will significantly enhance teaching, research, innovation, and practical learning.

She stated that Bayero University is determined to become one of Nigeria's leading universities and that strategic partnerships with institutions like NADDC, supported by modern facilities and active student engagement, will accelerate the achievement of that vision.

To improve the impact and sustainability of the project, Professor Amina requested that NADDC upgrade the EV Charging Station to accommodate electric cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, noting that electric and CNG-powered vehicles are becoming an integral part of Nigeria's transportation system. She also advocated for the establishment of a standard automobile maintenance workshop at the centre.

She further proposed that the Bayero University facility serve as a regional NADDC training centre for engineering institutions across Northern Nigeria. In addition, she called for stronger collaboration between the University and all NADDC automotive centres to provide quality SIWES placements and practical training opportunities for engineering students.

According to her, the University is committed to moving beyond classroom-based learning by equipping students with hands-on experience, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills that will improve their employability and prepare them for the future of electric mobility.
