CAIRO, EGYPT โ€” August 2026

40+ Egyptian industrialists engage Ekiti as State advances major opportunities across agriculture, agro-processing, textiles and solid minerals, with potential to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

The Government of Ekiti State has taken another significant step in its drive towards industrialization following the conclusion of the Ekitiโ€“Egypt Industrial Investment Mission, which generated a pipeline of opportunities with the potential to mobilise up to US$500 million in industrial and trade investment.
Held in Cairo from 24โ€“28 July 2026, the five-day mission brought the Ekiti delegation into engagement with more than 40 Egyptian industrialists, manufacturers, processors, agribusinesses, mining operators and investors, resulting in eight Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and further commercial engagements across agriculture, agro-processing, commercial farming, seed production, textiles, manufacturing and solid minerals.

Funded by the Government of Ekiti State and organised by Welcome2Africa International (W2A), the mission forms part of the State's strategy to convert its agricultural resources, mineral deposits and industrial assets into factories, jobs, exports and sustainable economic activity.

Based on preliminary project sizing, the opportunities being advanced could represent over US$200 million in near- to medium-term investment potential, with the broader pipeline capable of approaching US$500 million as projects mature and expand. Collectively, the opportunities could support thousands of direct jobs and significantly more indirect jobs and livelihoods across farming, manufacturing, mining, logistics, aggregation and associated services.
Investment and employment figures below represent indicative potential based on the preliminary scope of each opportunity and remain subject to feasibility, investment structure and final project scale.

Eight Opportunities Advancing Ekiti's Industrialization
Commercial Agriculture โ€”

200โ€“500 Hectare Pilot - An international agricultural operator is progressing an initial 200โ€“500 hectare maize and soybean production platform, with potential expansion into sesame, hibiscus and other crops, representing approximately US$2โ€“5 million in initial investment potential. At scale, the project could support 100โ€“250 direct jobs and 500โ€“1,000 indirect jobs and livelihoods across farming, inputs, mechanisation, aggregation and logistics.

Certified Seed Production โ€” Approximately 100 Hectares - A specialist international seed producer is exploring approximately 100 hectares of certified seed production and demonstration farms, initially focused on yellow maize and improved hybrid varieties, with an estimated US$1โ€“3 million investment potential. The platform could support 50โ€“100 direct and 300โ€“700 indirect jobs, while improving agricultural productivity and strengthening feedstock supply for processors investing in Ekiti.

Integrated Agro-Industrial Processing โ€” US$75โ€“150 Million Potential - A major integrated agro-industrial group with approximately US$1 billion in annual turnover is exploring wet-corn milling, starch production, feed manufacturing, poultry, commercial farming and a regional manufacturing and export platform, with potential investment of US$75โ€“150 million. At scale, the project could support approximately 1,000โ€“2,000 direct jobs and 5,000โ€“10,000 indirect jobs and livelihoods across farming, processing, logistics, packaging and distribution.

Granite, Marble and Dimension-Stone Development โ€” US$20โ€“50 Million Potential An established international quarrying and dimension-stone operator is assessing opportunities around Ekiti's granite and marble resources, with potential investment of approximately US$20โ€“50 million across quarrying, processing, cutting and fabrication. Commercial development could support approximately 300โ€“700 direct and 1,000โ€“2,500 indirect jobs, while increasing local processing and value addition.

Large-Scale Farming and Export โ€” US$25โ€“60 Million Potential - An international agricultural group is exploring large-scale production of yellow maize and sesame, alongside mechanisation, irrigation, processing, structured off-take and exports, with potential investment estimated at US$25โ€“60 million. The opportunity could support approximately 500โ€“1,200 direct and 2,000โ€“5,000 indirect jobs and livelihoods, strengthening Ekiti's position as a regional agricultural production and export base.

Maize and Cassava Industrial Value Chain โ€” Emerging US$20 Million JV - An emerging approximately US$20 million joint-venture opportunity is being advanced around cassava and maize processing into higher-value industrial products including starch, glucose, fructose, corn oil, gluten and animal feed. The development could support approximately 300โ€“600 direct and 2,000โ€“4,000 indirect jobs and livelihoods, while creating a significant structured market for farmers and aggregators.

Gold and Lithium Development โ€” US$50โ€“150 Million Potential - An international mining and chemicals operator has expressed interest in gold and lithium opportunities, particularly assets supported by geological exploration data, with potential mining and processing investment of approximately US$50โ€“150 million or more, subject to reserve confirmation. Commercial operations could support approximately 500โ€“1,500 direct and 2,000โ€“5,000 indirect jobs, while opening opportunities for local processing, technology transfer and mining services.

Textile and Garment Manufacturing โ€” US$30โ€“80 Million Potential - A major vertically integrated textile manufacturer operating 13 factories and employing more than 10,000 people internationally is exploring textile and garment opportunities in Ekiti, with potential investment estimated at US$30โ€“80 million. A substantial local operation could create approximately 1,000โ€“3,000 direct and 3,000โ€“7,000 indirect jobs, with opportunities spanning manufacturing, cotton production, logistics, distribution and supporting SMEs.
Building an Industrial Economy in Ekiti
Together, the opportunities reflect the industrialisation agenda of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, focused on attracting productive capital, creating jobs and ensuring that more of Ekiti's agricultural and mineral resources are processed and converted into higher-value products within the State. The proposition is supported by the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), agricultural production capacity, mineral resources and existing industrial assets, alongside an administration focused on improving the environment for investors seeking to establish operations in Ekiti.

Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, said:

โ€œWe want to build agricultural value chains where farmers have reliable markets, processors have access to the volumes and quality they require, and more of the value created from our agricultural resources remains within Ekiti. Connecting production to industry is central to our food security, employment and economic development agenda.โ€

Hon. Omotayo Adeola, Commissioner for Investment, Trade and Industry, said:

โ€œOur focus now is conversion โ€” moving from Expressions of Interest to site visits, commercial agreements, capital deployment, factories and jobs. Ekiti is open to serious industrialists and investors from Egypt and across the world who are prepared to build productive businesses within the State.โ€

Dr. John Moyo Ope Ekundayo, Special Adviser to the Governor, Office of Transformation & Service Delivery, added:

โ€œThe true measure of these engagements will be their impact on the ground โ€” employment, stronger businesses, increased productivity and new economic activity. Our responsibility is to ensure that credible investors can move efficiently from interest to implementation.โ€

Taking Ekiti's Investment Proposition to the World,
Bamidele Seun Owoola, Founder of Welcome2Africa International, said the mission demonstrated the scale of international interest that could be mobilised around Ekiti's industrial opportunities.

โ€œWe are moving beyond general investment promotion into conversations about hectares, factories, processing plants, joint ventures, mining assets, off-take and market access. The priority now is converting that interest into capital deployed and businesses operating within Ekiti.โ€

She added:
โ€œEgypt is one investment corridor. We are taking Ekiti's proposition to industrialists, investors and strategic partners across the Gulf, Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa. Our message is simple: come and look at Ekiti โ€” there are opportunities to build businesses that can serve Nigeria, Africa and global markets.โ€

The Ekiti State Government and Welcome2Africa International are progressing an inward investment mission to Ekiti in Q3โ€“Q4 2026, enabling prospective investors to assess project locations, infrastructure and resources and advance discussions towards investment decisions.
The next phase will focus on moving the pipeline from EOIs to site visits, from site visits to agreements, and from agreements to capital deployment, factories, production and jobs.

The Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD) conducted a joint project monitoring inspection to the on-going construction of the 100-Bedded Multipurpose Hospital Complex at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to assess the level of work completed, ensure compliance with approved specifications, identify areas requiring intervention, and make recommendations towards the timely completion and effective operation of the facility.

The inspection was led by the Special Adviser/Director General, OTSD, Engr. (Dr.) John Moyo Ekundayo, FNSE, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. (Dr.) Stephen Ibijola, and his team; the General Manager, Ekiti State Electricity Board, Engr. Taiwo Abegunde; representatives of EKSUTH led by Engr. Oladipo Adesola; and officials of the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company Limited (EKSWSC), led by Engr. Agbeyo.

The team was received at the project site by the General Manager of Axial Engineering Construction Limited, Engr. Idowu Babalola, who conducted the delegation round the various sections of the complex and provided detailed explanations on completed works, on-going activities and outstanding components. The project inspection revealed that plastering works had been completed, while tiling works on the first and second floors had also been completed.

Tiling works on the ground floor were yet to commence, with the overall tiling works assessed at approximately 70 percent completion. Painting works had commenced, with further works on-going. The team observed that electrical fittings are yet to be installed and would be completed in earnest. Moreover, mechanical fittings were yet to commence.

Construction works on the internal road network, covering approximately 1.217 kilometres, were also on-going. Two 500kVA transformers, belonging to the Independent Power Plant (IPP) and BEDC respectively, had been installed on the dedicated substation base and were awaiting connection to the facility.

The inspection team further observed the need for the extension of the retaining wall on both rear sides of the hospital complex, improved drainage management, proper road alignment, enhanced safety installations and additional attention to the protection of embankments against erosion and possible landslide.

Other technical recommendations by the SA/DG, OTSD included the construction of a gatehouse behind the Primary School around the hospital complex to enhance security and accessibility; reinforcement and proper alignment of the proposed retaining wall with a concrete toe; reduction of the gradients of the hill behind the drainage (at the back of the building) and stone pitching to minimise water run off and sand slides; and the engagement of a surveyor to undertake a topographical survey of the front and rear sections of the complex to guide effective water-flow management.

The SA/DG also directed the contractor to adjust the bottom of the stone pitching to prevent possible collapse resulting from water percolation and to liaise with the Technical Advisor, Green Economy and Ecological Matters, on measures to rescue and stabilise the embankment and prevent landslide, and also connect adjoining drains.

He further advised the contractor to increase manpower on mechanical and electrical fittings and expedite all outstanding finishing works, particularly tiling and painting, to ensure that the works are completed in accordance with approved specifications within four weeks from the date of inspection.

The joint monitoring and inspection team expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the project and commended Axial Engineering Construction Limited for the quality of work executed and the commitment demonstrated on site. However, the team emphasised the need for increased work pace and manpower deployment to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe.

The SA/DG, OTSD, was accompanied by Mr. Adetunji Aribasoye, Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring and Evaluation; Mr. Toba Fatunla, Special Assistant, Service Delivery; Mrs. Adefunke Afun, Director, Administration and Supplies; Mr. Bamidele Adejoro, ACEO; and Mr. Adekunle Adenijo, PEO.
Others on the inspection team included Engr. Fagbamigbe, Engr. Adolayemi and Engr. Adeniyi Khadijat from the Ministry of Works; Engr. Agbeyo, Engr. Obafemi, Engr. Fakuade, Engr. Toba and Engr. Alabi from EKSWSC; Mr. Allen Ololade, Director of Procurement, Ministry of Health; and other officials from EKSUTH and relevant agencies.

The Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD) reaffirmed its commitment to rigorous monitoring, engineering compliance and inter-agency collaboration to ensure the delivery of high-quality, durable and fit-for-purpose healthcare infrastructure that will significantly enhance healthcare service delivery for the people of Ekiti State.

JMO is 65. Yes, he is!

But before you ask, โ€œToba, is today his birthday again after the January 30 celebration?โ€โ€”and before those of you with the speed of the Gen Z generation jump to conclusionsโ€”lol, let me explain.

Have you ever encountered a 65-year-old man who carries the energy, drive and restlessness of a 30-year-old? You have probably heard the Yoruba expression โ€œsagba dewe"โ€”an elder who retains the vigour of youth.

Well, I have living evidence in a man named JMO, who has seemingly defied the conventional narrative of age and its limitations on performance. Today is not his birthday. Yesterday he clocked 3 years working with His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

For two years, seven months and nine days and nights, I have had the privilege of working closely with Engr. Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo. And yes, I deliberately said working at night too.

There have been nights when JMO would call or wake me up to work on an assignment. There have been evenings when an assignment would begin and continue well into the night. Sometimes, he would complete his own part and send it to me for further action. If I woke up at 1 or 2 a.m. and found an assignment waiting, I knew what had to be done. And on some occasions, he was still awake too, exchanging messages with me back and forth to ensure clarity, accuracy and excellence.

That is JMO.

We have conducted evaluations, reviewed MDA work plans, undertaken on-site verification of challenges, climbed several floors of high-rise buildings at the State Secretariat, conducted perception surveys across all 16 Local Government Areas, monitored projects, roads and buildings, and undertaken countless other assignments.

I have watched this man climb stairs with the energy of an eagleโ€”almost like those who โ€œwait upon the Lordโ€ in Isaiah 40:31.

His energy is remarkable. His passion for Ekiti's development is infectious. His commitment is unmatched.

He demands excellenceโ€”and creates a culture of it.

JMO is an excellent man, but more importantly, he wants excellence to become a culture within his team.

He pays attention to details, and working with him means you must always be on top of your game. There is little room for laxity because our assignments often go beyond the officeโ€”they go to the highest levels of government and, ultimately, to the Governor.

He has taught us to understand that the quality of our work matters because the decisions of government can depend on it.

But beyond the technical demands of the job, he has taught us to look at the bigger picture.

He wants you to think beyond what you can gain today and consider what your contribution will mean for Ekiti tomorrow. One statement I have heard him make repeatedly captures this philosophy:

โ€œWe shall all expire!โ€

It sounds simple, but there is a profound lesson in it: whatever position we occupy today is temporary. What matters is what we build, what we leave behind and the impact our work makes after we are gone.

I make bold to say that I am one of the people significantly impacted by working with JMO.

I have been privileged to undertake numerous assignments and represent him at several high-level official engagements. These opportunities have not only strengthened my professional capacity; they have exposed me to the nuances of governance, policy implementation, public administration and the machinery of government.

Working with him has stretched me.

It has challenged me.

It has made me pay greater attention to details.

And, most importantly, it has made me appreciate that public service is not merely about occupying an officeโ€”it is about creating value and leaving systems better than you met them.

JMO wants Ekiti to become a state that can compete withโ€”and even surpassโ€”the best-performing states in Nigeria.

He often speaks passionately about making Ekiti a model of development, efficiency and good governance.

And perhaps, in some areas, we already have achievements that others can learn from.

The Ekiti Strategic Pillar Monitoring System (Ekiti Dashboard), for instance, has provided a structured platform for tracking government projects and initiatives from initiation to completion. It is one of the innovations through which the administration has strengthened monitoring, accountability and evidence-based governance.

Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, Ekiti has continued to record notable strides across several sectors.

And JMO has brought his energy, experience, passion and remarkable work ethic to his assignment as Special Adviser/Director-General, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD).

As he marks three impactful years of service with the administration, I join colleagues, associates and well-wishers in celebrating Engr. Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo, FNSE.

Three years of commitment.

Three years of demanding excellence.

Three years of sleepless nights, strategic thinking, monitoring, evaluation and service.

Three years of contributing to the vision of an administration determined to build a better Ekiti.

I am grateful for the privilege of working with him and for the lessons, exposure and opportunities that have come with it.

As we look ahead, I can only wish him greater assignments, greater impact and even greater commitment to the development of Ekiti State.

Generations to come must know and remember men who gave their best to public service.

JMO is one of such men.

And perhaps, when the story of this era of Ekiti's development is eventually written, his name will be found among those who did not merely occupy officesโ€”but worked, built, challenged systems and left their footprints on the sands of time.

His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), exactly 3 years ago, swore in an extended cabinet - Executive Council. Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo (aka JMO) was amongst the team. Glory be to God Almighty!

Looking back, the 3 years of working and walking closely with the Governor have made me to learn, unlearn and re-learn a lot in social relations, politics and governance. I recalled that my wife, Mrs. Mary Anike Ekundayo, once remarked, when I was part of the presitigious Lagos State Civil Service that I was there for a training. This was after my PhD research study in management conducted in Malaysia in 2012. She was on point as most of what I learned in Lagos while serving as the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, was fully unleashed in the Ekiti assignment.

I got to know Oyebanji way back in 2013. He knew me through the Ekitipanupo portal - an initiative of Chief Seye Adetunmbi (from Ifaki Ekiti). Ekitipanupo comprises of men and women of timber and calibre of Ekiti origin with passion to exchange ideas towards Ekiti's development. BAO would read virtually every post and not leave comment. Unknown to me, he was following my posts on the platform with passion. One day, he sent me an email that he wanted me to come and help Ekiti in Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) as he had just been appointed the Honourable Commissioner of Budget, Economic Planning and Service Delivery by His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi (the then Governor of Ekiti State). That 'head-hunting' of October 2013 led to the setting up of M & E template for Ekiti similar to Lagos. Unfortunately, it could not be sustained as Dr Fayemi could not return as the man in the saddle of Ekiti.

Fastforwarded to 2023, BAO did not forget that stint of friendship and relationship. Of course, it was sustained over the years. I was appointed as the Special Adviser, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD) on the 8 August 2023 with pomp and pageantry. OTSD, among key mandates, is saddled with monitoring and evaluating all government policies, programmes and projects. Moreover, OTSD assesses all political appointees, especially in the Executive Council (Exco). This is an onerous task. The Governor once pulled me aside after a church service at Government House Chapel, a few days after my appointment. He pointedly told me that the success of his administration was partly hinged on OTSD coming alive to its core mandates as he once served in that office before! He made mention that I should be ready to step on toes, and promised his uncommon support. He kept his pact and, to the glory of God, OTSD succeeded. Kudos to the OTSD Strategy Team members comprising of all political appointees serving in OTSD and the Heads of Departments and Unit within the office. The strategy team was once opportune to meet with the Governor in his office where he excitedly expressed that OTSD has surpassed his expectations.

I use this medium to express my appreciation to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) for finding me worthy out of millions of Ekitikete to be appointed as part of the highest decision making body, cabinet, of Ekiti State. I am elated to be part of the history making government where BAO as the captain is steering the ship of state. It is gladdening that his administration - 1st and 2nd terms - is going to run back to back. This is the first time in the annals of Ekiti history. In addition, it was a record breaking election that Ekiti had on 20 June 2026 resulting in 85.7% of total votes cast for APC - landslide victory for BAO. The Governor must be reminded that the expectations of Ekitikete are high, earnestly longing and yearning for more dividends of democracy in his 2nd term in office starting from 16 October 2026.

Gratitude to God Almighty for the opportunity to serve my state, with palpable passion, under a compassionate and gracious leader - Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO).
