Afaka Community Empowers Orphans through Education and Recognizes Community Contributors
In a heartwarming gesture, the Afaka Community today handed over 114 orphaned children to various private schools within the community. Additionally, educational materials were distributed to 100 other deserving orphans, paving the way for a brighter future for these young individuals.
The initiative, spearheaded by The Afaka Community- TAC aims to provide quality education and support to orphaned children who have been deprived of parental care. By partnering with private schools in the community, TAC ensures that these children receive the necessary education and guidance to thrive academically and personally.
During the handover ceremony, community leaders expressed their commitment to the welfare and development of these children. The event was attended by prominent individuals, including the Commandant of the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), Major Gen J. Ochai, ably represented by the Deputy Commandant AVM Aneke, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and other notable personalities who have made significant contributions to the community’s progress.
AVM Aneke extended his goodwill and the assurances of his continued support towards the progress of TAC.
He further relayed the Commandant’s happiness at being honored with such an award. He thanked the community for creating a peaceful environment for the Academy to carry out its activities successfully.
Describing the Afaka community as a good host, the Deputy Commandant promised to relay all the community’s requests to the Commandant. He also assured them of the Commandant’s readiness to always support the community within the limited resources available to him. He applauded the organizers of the event for their efforts, noting that it offers an opportunity to the less privileged in society to achieve their dreams of greatness.
The honorees include the Commandant NDA Maj Gen JO Ochai, who received the Community Development Award for his unwavering support in providing an enabling environment for the development of the community. The TCN Managing Director received the Game Changer Champion Award for his instrumental role in facilitating fully powered supply in the community, while ESV Balarabe Anas received the Grassroots Development Award for his commitment in empowering the less privileged in the community. Mother CAT Nigeria Ltd received the Community Support Award for their commitment in providing necessary support.
Speaking on behalf of the Afaka Community, the District Head of Rigasa, (Dan Galadiman Zazzau) Architect Aminu Idris, represented by Alhaji Sidi Aliyu, (Jakadan Gundumar Rigasa), thanked the NDA Commandant for his various interventions that have positively impacted the lives of orphans and the less privileged in the Afaka community, as well as the generally improving security in the area through the NDA 37 Demo Battalion, whose troops, he noted, are always patrolling the general area to ensure the safety of the residents and their property. He, however, pleaded with the Academy to assist the Afaka community by fixing the dilapidated bridge linking Lema and Mando communities.
He also expressed his gratitude to all the individuals and organizations that have played a significant role in uplifting the Afaka Community. He emphasized the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and ensuring a brighter future for the orphaned children.
“The Afaka Community believes that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to every child, regardless of their background. Through this initiative, we aim to provide a nurturing environment for these children, enabling them to reach their full potential,” Jakadan Gundumar Rigasa stated.
The handover of the orphaned children to private schools not only provides them with educational opportunities but also fosters a sense of belonging within the community. By integrating them into the local schools, TAC ensures that these children are embraced by their peers and given the chance to form lasting friendships.
The distribution of educational materials to 100 additional orphans further underscores the community’s commitment to supporting education for all. These materials, including textbooks, stationery, and other learning resources, will undoubtedly enhance the learning experience of these children.
