Healthy ageing isn't about making huge changes overnight. It's about making small, consistent choices that help you feel stronger, happier, and more independent every day.

This week, we're sharing 5 simple daily habits that can make a real difference:
- Stay hydrated
- Keep moving
- Eat colourful fruits and vegetables
- Keep your mind active
- Stay connected with family and friends
Whether you're a senior, caring for an ageing parent, or simply planning ahead for your own future, these habits are a great place to start.
Remember, ageing well is not a destination—it's a lifestyle.

Question of the Day: Which of these healthy habits do you already practice every day, and which one would you like to improve? Tell us in the comments—we'd love to learn from one another!

"AFTERALL I PAY YOUR BILLS"

Emotional control linked to financial support experienced by many elderly people in Nigeria is definitely not caring, it is abuse.

Caring is loving.
Control is abuse.

Ask yourself today, "Are you a LOVER or an ABUSER"

Chief Ade once walked into the village square and the talking would pause. Not out of fear—but respect. His words settled disputes, his silence carried meaning. Then age bent his back and slowed his steps.
The meetings did not stop.
The chairs were still arranged.

But somehow, none was kept for him.
“Baba is old now,” they whispered. “Let the young ones run things.”
So Chief Ade stayed home, his cap resting on a wall hook, his wisdom ageing quietly with him. Not because he had nothing to give—but because no one asked.

Until the day the youths quarrelled. Projects failed. Voices grew loud, but solutions were few. In frustration, someone said, “Make we ask Baba Ade.”

When they came to him, something shifted. Chief Ade stood straighter. His voice, though softer, cut clearer than before. He did not shout. He reminded. He connected yesterday to today. Peace returned.

That day, a chair was placed for him again—not just in the square, but in the hearts of the people.

Lesson for Naija Seniors & Communities:

Respect must not expire with strength. Elders lose dignity not because they are useless, but because systems forget them.

Every community needs elder councils, mentorship circles, and advisory roles where seniors remain visible, consulted, and honoured.

In Naija, wisdom does not retire—it waits to be invited.

Mama Is Not a Burden

Mama Kemi was once the woman everyone ran to—naming ceremonies, disputes, prayers. Now, she sat quietly in a corner while family decisions happened over her head.

One day, her grandson asked, “Mama, how did you handle this in your time?” Her face lit up. Her voice returned.

Solution: Families must intentionally invite seniors into conversations, decisions, and storytelling. Wisdom ignored is dignity lost.
