Today in Akure, I represented my principal, His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, at the public destruction of illicit drug exhibits by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The exercise, which saw the destruction of 83.35 tons of assorted hard drugs, is a strong and necessary reminder of our collective responsibility to rid our society of substances that destroy lives, families, and futures.
As a government, we have adopted a zero-tolerance stance against the possession, trafficking, and consumption of illicit drugs. We will continue to intensify advocacy, strengthen awareness campaigns, and work closely with relevant stakeholders to curb the growing menace, particularly among our young people.
We will not fold our arms while individuals or groups attempt to undermine the safety and wellbeing of our communities through illicit drug activities. Offenders will face the full weight of the law.
I commend the leadership of the NDLEA, under Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), and the Ondo State Command for their dedication, professionalism, and sustained efforts in combating drug-related crimes. I also appreciate the support of our security agencies, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and youth organisations who remain critical partners in this fight.
Together, we must continue to build a safer, healthier, and more responsible society for present and future generations.
