βA WORLD CLASS TEACHING HOSPITAL FOR SOKOTO STATEβ
When Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, CFR assumed office as Governor of Sokoto State in 2015, he identified the revitalization of the health sector as one of his key priorities. He wasted no time in embarking on aggressive construction/rehabilitation of Primary Health Care Centers and Hospitals. He equipped the centers and hospitals and trained its personnel.
The Government also entered into a cooperative agreement with the Federal Ministry of Health for deployment of some Medical Doctors with Usman Dan University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) to Sokoto State Government owned Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centers. They have not only brought high quality health care closer to the people, but have been carrying out the training and retraining of health personnel in Sokoto State.
The Governor Tambuwal Administration is now poised to take health care delivery in the state a notch higher. It has awarded the contract for construction of the world class Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital. On November 5, 2020, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike laid the foundation stone of the Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital (SOSUTH), to the delight of Governor Tambuwal, top government officials and an enthusiastic crowd.
The Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital, when completed, will undertake the training of professionals in the medical field, providing high level healthcare services to the state's populace and neighbouring States.
The hospital will have structures that meet the standard of its status as a modern medical facility that can compete with its counterparts anywhere in the medical world.
In total, the combined capacity of the hospital, comprising of clinics, units, laboratories, theatres and wards etc is 258 offices, 950 beds and 17 clinics.
The period for the completion of this project is 30 months. The constractor is Calder Construction Company under supervision of the Consultant (Dotline Arch Consult Ltd) and monitoring/supervision by the State Ministry of Works.
