Oborevwori Pledges Sustained Devt Of Delta

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has, pledged sustained commitment to infrastructure development of the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday in Kwale while addressing the 2025 Ndokwa Annual General Conference organised by the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU).

He was represented at the event by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D.

Speaking at Ndokwa House, Kwale, Oborevwori described the Ndokwa nation as a pillar of peace, intellectual strength and economic productivity in Delta State, commending the unity and sense of purpose demonstrated by stakeholders at the conference.

He said that the annual gathering provided a strategic platform for reflection, consensus-building and aligning the aspirations of the Ndokwa people with the broader development vision of the state.

"I want to thank the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) for the invitation because this conference is a vital platform for introspection, strategic planning, and the consolidation of the aspirations of the Ndokwa people within the larger Delta State project.

"The Ndokwa people, spanning across Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, and Ukwuani Local Government Areas have remained a pillar of peace, intellectual prowess, and economic productivity in our state.

"Your contributions to the oil and gas sector, agriculture, and the political stability of Delta State are invaluable and as we stand on the threshold of a new year, 2026, it is only fitting that we gather like this to review our journey and set a course for a more prosperous future.

"When I assumed office, I made a solemn pledge to the people of Delta State through the MORE Agenda: Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security and I want to state categorically that the Ndokwa nation is central to this vision.

"In the area of provision of infrastructure, my administration is committed to ensuring that the road networks and urban renewal projects within this region, particularly the ongoing works in Kwale and surrounding communities, are completed to boost commerce.

"It is a fact that we have completed the multi-billion Naira Kwale -Beneku bridge, awarded more than 29 billion naira Aboh-Akarai road.

"We have constructed several road projects in Aboh, Ashaka and other communities in Ndokwa East while the Emu-Ebendo to Emu-Iyasele and Ashaka road will be constructed next year.

"We are aware that that work is ongoing on Ndemili/Utagba-Uno, Utagba-Uno/Eweshi road, the Abbi/Inam-Abbi roads, among several others in Ndokwa West and Ukwuani Local Government Areas.

"As it concerns power, we are fully aware of the importance of the Okpai Step-down project. We are working in synergy with federal authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the people who host the light also see the light in their homes and businesses.

"However, with the full operation of the Kwale Free Trade Zone, electricity supply will get a boost in Kwale and environs.

"Through our empowerment programs, we are prioritizing Ndokwa youths and women for skill acquisition to ensure that the wealth of this land translates into the wealth of its people.

"A lot of our youths have been empowered to be entrepreneurs and more persons will be empowered next year.

"There is the need for collective action for there to be peace.

"This is because, development thrives only in an atmosphere of peace; I urge the NNU and all stakeholders to continue to champion the cause of unity.

"We must resist any attempt to fracture our shared identity for personal or political gain.

"As you deliberate today at Ndokwa House, I charge you to come up with resolutions that will further the development of your communities as my administration remains a listening one, and our doors are always open to the NNU for constructive engagement.

"On behalf of the Government and the good people of Delta State, I wish you a successful Conference and a prosperous 2026 in advance," the Governor said.

Earlier, Chairman of the 2025 NNU Conference, Rear Admiral Mike Onah, OON (rtd), called on Ndokwa sons and daughters to remain united in their drive to attract meaningful development to the area.

He emphasised that Ndokwa development should not be seen as the responsibility of a few individuals but as a collective project meant to benefit all Ndokwa people, both at home and in the diaspora.

Also speaking, the President General of the Ndokwa Neku Union, Chief Amechi Asuguni, reviewed the achievements of the current NNU executive council within one year in office, highlighting progress recorded in advocacy, stakeholder engagement and strategic consultations.

Asuguni appealed to Ndokwa people to tone down internal disagreements, particularly on the issue of state creation, noting that consultations on the matter were ongoing and required patience, restraint and unity.

He further disclosed that the union’s engagement with the Minister of Power and Energy on the Okpai IPP Stepdown project was successful, expressing optimism that the intervention would translate into improved electricity supply for host communities.

Onyeme Urges NBC To Quickly Resolve Boundary Disputes Between Delta And Neighbouring States

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has urged the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to urgently resolve the boundary disputes between Delta and its neighbouring states.

The Deputy Governor made the call on Friday in Asaba during an advocacy visit of officials of the NBC led by its Director-General, Surveyor Adamu Adaji.

"It is the desire of Delta State Government that the National Boundary Commission should fast-track amicable resolutions that will put an end to the series of lingering contentious challenges associated with various interstate boundaries of Delta State, particularly the Delta/Edo Interstate Boundary.

"It is pertinent to also accord equal attention to other interstate boundaries involving Delta/Ondo, and other similar boundaries, with a view to ensuring that all the five interstate boundaries involving Delta State are resolved amicably in the shortest possible time," the Deputy Governor said.

He commended the Commission for the different activities carried out over the years on various Interstate Boundaries involving Delta State, despite the stalemate experienced in actual delineation.

He emphasized, "On our part, Delta State Boundary Committee has made several efforts to appeal to our communities to live in peace and harmony with their neighbours, in order to enhance the spirit of peaceful co-existence at Interstate level, which is in line with the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori's-led administration.

"There cannot be sustainable development in the absence of peace and security, as such, the Government of Delta State has confidence in the ability of the National Boundary Commission, as empowered by law, to do justice to the various interstate boundaries involving the state, for the betterment of its citizens.

"It is the expectation of government and the good people of Delta State that after this visit, the Commission will tackle and surmount every stalemate in respect of the contentious interstate boundary issues."

Surveyor Adaji had said that the meeting "will provide an avenue to meet with the State Boundary Committee to discuss the planned works on the Delta/Edo Interstate Boundary for better synergy.

"Delta State shares common interstate boundary with Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo and Rivers State, and I am pleased to inform Your Excellency that the dispute resolution and boundary definition process with respect to each of the interstate boundaries with other states has received the attention of the Commission."

Some of those who attended the meeting included the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Delta State, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, among others.
