FG Reduces Import Tariffs on Passenger Vehicles to Make Cars More Affordable

The federal government has introduced a new measure aimed at making vehicles more affordable for Nigerians by reducing the import tariff on fully built passenger vehicles.
Under the newly approved 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures, the tariff on fully built passenger vehicles, including four wheel drives and station wagons, has been reduced from 70 percent to 40 percent.

This means that importers of vehicles will now pay less tax when bringing fully assembled cars into the country. Previously, the higher tariff made it more expensive to import vehicles, and this cost was often transferred to buyers, making cars more expensive for individuals and businesses.

With the reduction to 40 percent, the government expects that the cost of importing vehicles will decrease. This could lead to lower vehicle prices in the market, making it easier for more Nigerians to own cars and for businesses to acquire vehicles needed for transportation and operations.

The policy is also expected to support economic growth by easing transportation challenges and reducing the cost of logistics for businesses that depend on vehicles for the movement of goods and services.

Nigeria Police Approves Key Reforms, Restructures Monitoring Unit

In a move to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen internal oversight, and reinforce discipline within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the Police Monitoring Unit.

The IGP’s decision is driven by the need to realign the unit with its core mandate, address identified operational gaps, and reposition it as a credible and effective mechanism for internal accountability within the Force.

As part of the reforms, the unit has been streamlined and strengthened to enhance proactive, monitoring and intelligence-driven inspections, and real-time oversight of police personnel and operations across Commands, Formations and Departments.

The new structure also streamlines and integrates key investigative and monitoring functions in alignment with the Force’s broader reform agenda.

To drive the philosophy leading to the new structure, the IGP has also approved new leadership for the unit.
