Delta State Independent Electoral Commission The body responsible for the conduct of elections to the offices of Chairmen and Councillors in the 25 Local Government Councils in Delta State Nigeria.

In consonance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2012 (as amended), the Commission has the duty of:

* Organising, conducting and supervising all elections and matters pertaining to elections into elective offices provided for in the Local Government Law or any law enacted by the

State House of Assembly;
* Monitoring political campaigns and providing rules and regulations which shall govern the elections;
* Ensuring that all the Electoral Commissioners, Electoral and Returning Officers take and subscribed to the Oath prescribed by law;
* Rendering such advice as it may consider necessary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the compilation of the Register of Voters in so far as that Register is applicable to Local Government Elections in Delta State;
* Dividing each Local Government Area into such number of wards, not being more than 20 as the circumstances of each Local Government may require; the boundaries of each ward shall be such that the number of inhabitants of the ward is as nearly equal to the population quota as is reasonably practicable;
* Reviewing the division of every Local Government Area into wards at intervals of not less than 10 years and may alter such wards in accordance with the provisions of the law and to such extent as it may consider desirable;
* Carrying out such other functions as may be conferred upon it by law. Report on Train-the-Trainers' Workshop

In view of the upcoming July 13, 2024 elections, the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission organized a one-day Train-the-Trainers’ workshop on Thursday, 20th June, 2024 at Asaba for Electoral Commissioners, Directors and other top Management staff of the Commission.

The workshop is designed to prepare participants towards the successful conduct of the elections. The workshop’s contents cut across the various components of the electoral process as it is hoped to inculcate and acquaint participants on the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude needed for the various assignments on Election-Day in the 5,863 Units and 500 Electoral Wards spread across the 25 Local Government Areas in the State.

According to the DSIEC Chairman, Sir. R. J. Agbaike, knowledge participants will acquire at the training will be most useful and is expected to galvanize & cascade same to 25 Local Government Returning Officers, 500 Ward Returning Officers, 500 Supervisory Presiding Officers; 5,863 Presiding Officers and Polling Clerks. He further reiterate the mandate of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections by providing a level playing field to all political parties and their candidates based on the principles of fairness, justice and equity.

Topics discussed at the Train-the-trainer workshop included Election information Management & Control delivered by Mr. E. Abraka, a retired Permanent Secretary; Election-Day Administration, Principles and Practice delivered by Chief C. O. Onwuma. Other topics treated at the workshop included Legal Issues Arising from the Conduct of Local Government Elections by Barr. Friday Edmund Seimode, Functions of Electoral Personnel by Hon. Chief (Engr.) James I. Umukoro while Mr. James Okocha dealt on the topic, Practical Applications
And proper Completion of Electoral Forms & Documents.

Highlight of the occasion was to declare the workshop open by the Chairman of the Commission, Sir Dr. Raphael Jerry Agabike

The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission played host to the Management team of Delta State Public Procurement Commission, Asaba yesterday. The Commission was in DSIEC on a sensitization visit to enlighten the Commission on the need to be guided by the Delta State laws on procurement and also to synergize with DSIEC on the best way to work together with a view to achieving their mandate without hitches, especially as the Commission prepares for the upcoming elections scheduled for July 13, 2024.
