ANAMBRA LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION: CP NNANNA RECEIVES ELECTION OBSERVERS, ASSURES OF SECURITY AGENCIES’ READINESS

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, today 28th August 2026 received a delegation of accredited election observers at the Command Headquarters in Awka, assuring them of the readiness of the Police and other sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible Local Government Election in the State.

The CP reiterated that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has harmonised its operational plans and deployed adequate personnel and logistics across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State to provide a secure environment for voters, electoral officials, accredited observers and other stakeholders throughout the electoral process.

CP Nnanna further assured the observers and the people of Anambra that security personnel have been strategically positioned to facilitate the ease of movement of law-abiding citizens while firmly responding to any act capable of threatening the peace and security of the State.

The Commissioner of Police called on residents to come out and exercise their civic responsibilities without fear, assuring that the Command and its sister security agencies will continue to work together to protect lives and property before, during and after the election.

In attendance were the representatives of Nigeria Youth for the Advancement of Democracy Initiative, Abuja, Grassroots Women Empowerment Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Progressive Women and youth development initiatives and Youth for Agriculture initiatives

AKWA IBOM BANS AMBULANCES FROM CARRYING CORPSES, THREATENS TO IMPOUND VIOLATING VEHICLES

The Akwa Ibom State Government has banned the use of ambulances to convey corpses for burial across the state, warning that any vehicle caught violating the directive will be impounded.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem John, announced the new reform on Thursday during the Ministry of Information’s monthly media briefing.

John said the ban applies to all ambulances, including those operated by the government, private individuals and religious missions.

According to the commissioner, ambulances are meant for emergency medical services and should not be used to transport corpses, which he said must instead be conveyed in hearses.

He warned that officials are empowered under the new law to intercept and impound ambulances found carrying corpses to burial ceremonies.

John said the reform followed the establishment by law of the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Service Ambulance System, transforming it from a policy initiative into a statutory agency.

He said the government had, over the past one and a half years, undertaken reforms aimed at returning ambulance operations in the state to international standards.

ANAMBRA LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS: POLICE HARMONISES OPERATIONAL PLAN WITH SISTER SECURITY AGENCIES, ASSURES RESIDENTS OF SAFETY AND ELECTORAL INTEGRITY

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has, following consultations with the heads of sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in the State, harmonised the operational plans of the various security agencies ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 29th August 2026.

The coordinated security arrangements are aimed at ensuring adequate protection for residents, voters, electoral officials, political actors, and other stakeholders, while maintaining law and order before, during, and after the elections.

To this end, the Anambra State Police Command assures residents of ease of movement across the State throughout the election period. All officers and men deployed for election duties have been directed to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, discipline, and respect for the fundamental rights of all citizens in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The CP further calls on all political parties, candidates, supporters, and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully, respect the electoral process, and abide by the laws and guidelines governing the elections.

The Command also urges residents to remain vigilant and refrain from the spread of unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension or apprehension. Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities, persons, or developments to the nearest police station or through the Command’s established communication channels.

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders, remains fully prepared to safeguard lives and property and ensure that the Local Government Elections are conducted in a peaceful, orderly, secure, and credible atmosphere.

The designated stopping point has been moved *about 100 metres away from the junction, immediately after Access Bank.*

For years, commercial buses have formed multiple queues around the junction, making it extremely difficult and dangerous for motorists coming from the intersecting roads to safely join the expressway.

As a result, motorists are often forced to join the expressway through the *speed lane instead of the service lane*, contributing to serious accidents and loss of lives.

Passengers should please cooperate, walk the short distance up the road to board your bus at the new designated point as we collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to get a permanent bus terminal on that route.

DON’T MISMANAGE THE ACCUSATIONS. LET THE EVIDENCE SPEAK!

VDM has made serious allegations against the Nigeria Police Force. Such claims demand evidence, not just social media noise.

Let him provide the locations, checkpoints, officers involved, dates, victims and any phone records or other verifiable evidence.

The IGP should order a proper investigation. If any officer is guilty, let the law deal with them. If the allegations are false, let VDM face the consequences.

SERIOUS ACCUSATIONS REQUIRE SERIOUS EVIDENCE. LET THE TRUTH PREVAIL.

NSCDC Raids Illegal Mining Site in Anambra, Arrests 3 suspects, Seizes 2 Tippers

Three suspected illegal miners have been arrested and two tippers impounded after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, raided an illegal sharp-sand mining site along the Obiaja River in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were apprehended during a joint operation targeting unregulated mining activities at Mmiri Obiaja, popularly known as Mmiri Mgbo Obiaja Nnobi, along the Nnobi–Ideani Junction–Uke Road.

The operation, which took place at about 2:07 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, was carried out by the NSCDC Mines and Steel Development Unit in collaboration with the Office of the Federal Mines Officer, Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, following credible intelligence.

State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde, who disclosed the development in a statement, said the operation was part of the Command’s intensified efforts to prevent the illegal exploitation of the state’s mineral resources.

He said, “The Command’s Mines and Steel Development Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Federal Mines Officer, acting on credible intelligence, raided Mmiri Obiaja, popularly known as Mmiri Mgbo Obiaja Nnobi, and arrested three suspects engaged in illegal mining of sharp sand at the river.”

The suspects were identified as Patrick Anpue, 45, of Umuagu Village, Nnobi; Chidubem Ugammadu, 44, of Urumkpu Village, Umuoji; and Chukwuma Igwe, 47, of Umuanocha Village, Awka-Etiti.

According to the NSCDC, all three suspects were arrested at the mining site.

The operation also yielded two tippers with registration numbers XA 653 GBZ and GDD 423 XB, six shovels and one wheelbarrow, which the Corps said were being used for excavation and transportation of the sand.

Maku said the suspects had confessed to engaging in mining activities at the site without the required authorisation or legal documentation from the relevant authorities.

He added that they would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The Commandant reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, including the country’s solid mineral resources, in line with its statutory responsibilities.

Maku warned individuals, businesses and groups involved in illegal sand mining and other unauthorised mining activities to desist, stressing that violators would face the full weight of the law.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of illegal mining to the NSCDC for prompt intervention.

UNIZIK MANAGEMENT APPROVES 3 MONTHS SUSPENSION OF PROF. IFEANYI ODINYE WITH HALF SALARY AT FIRST INSTANCE, REFERS CHIKAMSO FAVOUR OKECHUKWU TO STUDENTS EXAMINATION MISCONDUCT PANEL

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has approved the suspension of Prof. Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye, a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies for a period of three (3) months with half salary on the first instance, following the recommendations of the 6- man Special Investigative Panel who submitted their preliminary report on Friday, 21st August 2026.

The Student involved in the unfortunate incident, Chikamso Favour Okechukwu, according to the directive of the Vice Chancellor has been referred to the student’s examination misconduct committee

The Vice Chancellor has also extended the duration of the committee for another two weeks to enable the team complete their assignment and address in full, their five point terms of reference.

The Panel, Chaired by Prof. Emmanuel Obidimma, Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, in their preliminary report which dealt on two issues out of the five for determination , indicted Prof Odinye for contravening Section 5.8.3 of the General and Academic Regulations (GAR) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University by failing to not only record and submit the case of examination misconduct against Chikamso Favour Okechukwu on the prescribed Examination Misconduct Report Form but also gave back the offending phone recovered during the examination to the student on the same day in total disregard to section 5.8.1(iv) of the GAR.

Other three issues for determination by the committee which shall be addressed within the two weeks extended time frame included “whether there was sexual harassment, identities of the persons involved in the assault meted to Prof. Odinye and whether there was any incident of kidnapping in the matter”.

The committee members are expected to conclude their findings with recommendations to the Vice Chancellor before a final verdict including possible criminal prosecution is initiated.

The Vice Chancellor reiterates the stance of his administration’s priotisation of staff/ student’s welfare and zero tolerance to unethical practices while upholding the principles of transparency and fair hearing
