By Immaculata Ejike

The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has extended its grassroots health campaign to Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA, providing residents with free health screening, education and basic medical services.

The two-day outreach, held on August 25 and 26, 2026, at the Cathedral Church of St. John’s Hall, Ekwulobia, was organised by Youths on Ground Progressive and Mentorship Initiative, in collaboration with ANSACA and KNCV Nigeria.

Residents received free screening for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis B and C, as well as blood pressure checks. Health education, treatment and medications were also provided where necessary.

ANSACA commended the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for his continued support for community-based health interventions and for creating an enabling environment for the Agency to take essential HIV and other health services closer to people at the grassroots.

The outreach further demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships in expanding access to preventive and essential healthcare, particularly among underserved populations.

UKPO COMMUNITY EMBRACES HIV AWARENESS AND TESTING AS ANSACA DEEPENS GRASSROOTS AWARENESS

By Immaculata Ejike

Residents of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area (LGA) have embraced HIV awareness and testing as the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), in partnership with the Walter & Chioma Obi Foundation, took essential health services closer to the community.

On Aug. 22, the outreach was held at the palace of Igwe R.C. Eze, Dunukofia VI, where residents received HIV awareness, testing and counselling, alongside other basic healthcare services. The initiative encouraged community members to know their HIV status, understand available prevention options and seek appropriate care when necessary.

The exercise forms part of ANSACA’s ongoing grassroots outreach strategy to make HIV prevention, testing and related services more accessible, particularly to people who may face barriers to accessing conventional health facilities.

ANSACA commended Mr. Walter Chinedu Obi and his wife, Mrs. Chioma Obi, for their commitment to improving the wellbeing of their community through healthcare, education and other grassroots interventions.

The agency appreciated the Anambra State Government, led by Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for its people-centred healthcare agenda and the enabling environment it continues to provide for partnerships that support better health outcomes for Ndi Anambra.

ANSACA reaffirmed its commitment to working with community leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to expand HIV awareness, testing and prevention services across the state.

The agency urged residents to take responsibility for their health by getting tested, seeking reliable information and supporting efforts to eliminate HIV-related stigma.

ANSACA, NOA Strengthen Partnership to Deepen HIV Awareness Across Anambra

By Obianuju Isima

The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) is strengthening its collaboration with the National Orientation Agency Anambra (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, to expand HIV awareness, prevention education and community mobilisation across the state.

The partnership was explored on Aug. 24, during a courtesy visit by the NOA Anambra State leadership, led by the State Director, Chijioke Esq., to the Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, at the agency’s office.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Okeke emphasised the importance of effective public enlightenment in reducing new HIV infections, encouraging regular testing and treatment, addressing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.

He noted that NOA’s extensive grassroots network could provide a valuable channel for delivering accurate and practical HIV information to communities, markets, schools, workplaces, religious institutions and other groups across the state.

The discussions centred on possible joint sensitisation campaigns, community mobilisation, promotion of HIV testing and prevention services, stigma reduction, treatment adherence and the development of clear, culturally appropriate messages that resonate with people at the grassroots.

Dr. Okeke said the proposed collaboration is consistent with the Soludo administration’s focus on partnerships, preventive healthcare and community driven development, as well as ANSACA’s 2026–2028 State Strategic Transformation and Sustainability Plan.

The NOA State Director expressed the agency’s readiness to partner with ANSACA in strengthening sustained public education and behavioural change communication on HIV and other public health priorities.

Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to combining their respective strengths and grassroots structures to build a better-informed, healthier and more supportive Anambra State, where people can access accurate HIV information and services without fear of stigma or discrimination.

ANSACA INTENSIFIES MOTOR PARK HIV TESTING, AWARENESS IN ANAMBRA STATE

By Patrick Chukwuka

The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has intensified its motor park HIV testing and awareness campaign, bringing free HIV prevention, testing and other essential health services closer to residents, commuters and transport workers across the state.

On Aug. 22, ANSACA, in partnership with Core Med Diagnostics, organised a free health outreach at Regina Junction Keke Park in Awka, providing HIV testing and counselling, Hepatitis B and C screening, blood pressure checks and preventive health education.

The outreach is part of the agency’s efforts to make essential health services more accessible by taking them beyond conventional health facilities to strategic public spaces where people live, work and commute.

The initiative has been strengthened by the commitment of the Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo-led administration, whose people-centred healthcare agenda continues to support efforts to bring preventive and essential health services closer to Ndi Anambra. The administration’s focus on accessible healthcare and strategic partnerships has created an enabling environment for ANSACA to deepen community based interventions.

ANSACA expressed appreciation to Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for his continued support for the state’s HIV response and broader healthcare initiatives, noting that sustained government commitment is essential to expanding access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care services.

The campaign seeks to empower residents with accurate information, encouraging them to take proactive steps towards protecting their health by knowing their HIV status and accessing appropriate prevention, testing and treatment services.

ANSACA reaffirmed that early HIV testing and timely access to appropriate care are essential to preventing transmission and promoting healthier communities.

The agency urged residents to make HIV testing a regular part of their healthcare routine and help combat misinformation and stigma by sharing accurate information with family, friends and colleagues.

Know your status. Test early. Stay informed. Prevention starts with you.
