*Obaseki congratulates Prof. Salami on appointment as Chief Economic Adviser*

*_… urges alignment of monetary, fiscal policies_*

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has congratulated Prof. Doyin Salami on his appointment as the Chief Economic Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor, in a statement, said: “I hope that Prof. Salami will justify the trust and confidence of Mr President and help to align the nation’s monetary and fiscal policies to enable inclusive growth in these very challenging economic times.”

He added: “With this new role, I urge Prof. Salami to provide direction in influencing the fundamentals of the Nigerian economy, which will help to steer the economy back on track.

“Prof. Salami’s credentials will boost investor confidence for many who have sought a more coordinated and predictable economic environment that can spur Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and portfolio investment into the economy.

“As the current chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) and member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria, I expect Prof. Salami to bring his experience to bear in the new assignment and place Nigeria on the path of economic prosperity.”

*Obaseki mourns Alhaji Sani Dangote*

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the passing of my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Sani Dangote, the Vice President of Dangote Group, who died in the United States of America (USA) after a protracted illness.

Having known Sani for many years and developed a close bond with him and the Dangote family, the news is as devastating as it is numbing.

A thorough-bred businessman and pacesetting entrepreneur, Sani had a knack for excellence, which is evident in the chains of businesses he set up and managed, ranging from agriculture to manufacturing, banking and oil services.

He turned every business enterprise he touched into success stories. He built a thriving business empire and diversified into different fields. Some of the businesses he owned are Dansa Foods Limited, Dansa Energy, Sagas Energy Limited, Bulk Pack Services Limited, Dansa Agro Allied Limited, and Dangote Farms Limited.

His deep interest in agriculture is expressed in the nature of companies he set up, which were focused on farming and agro-processing, as well as in the fertilizer business. He no doubt was a towering personality in Nigeria’s private sector. Sani made insightful contributions to the Edo State Palm Oil Initiative, for which we remain grateful.

As chairman of Dansa Holdings, Sani brought a new verve to the beverages sector of the economy, growing the business to become one of the most notable brands in the country.

His expertise as a boardroom guru earned him appointments into the boards of several companies, notable among which include Nigerian Textile Mills Plc, Nutra Sweet Limited, Gum Arabic Limited, Dangote Textile Mills Limited, Alsan Insurance Brokers, Dan-Hydro Company Limited, Dansa Food Processing Company Limited and Dangote Farms Limited.

Sani was compassionate and kind, seeking the best for friends and associates. He was an avid polo player and two-time president of the Lagos Polo Club, where his chivalry and good nature were infectious.

On behalf of the Government and the good people of Edo State, I extend deep-felt condolences to the Dangote family, as well as friends and associates, and pray that God will grant us all the fortitude to bear this painful loss.

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 4, Oredo Local Government Area, Mr. Friday Enaruna Ihama has been suspended for alleged anti-party activities.

He has been replaced by Prince Courage Uyi Ogiefa.

*Obaseki appoints 2 special advisers, forwards list of eleven commissioner-nominees to Edo Assembly*

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has appointed two Special Advisers and forwarded the names of eleven commissioner-nominees to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation.

In a statement, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., said the two Special Advisers are Crusoe Osagie, who has been appointed as Special Adviser, Media Projects and Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, who is Special Adviser, Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management.

The commissioner-nominees whose names have been forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly include: Oluwole Osamudiamen Iyamu, SAN; Prof. (Mrs.) Obehi Akoria; Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe; Osaze Ethan Uzamere and Monday Osaigbovo.

Others are: Marie Edeko Esq.; Joseph Eboigbe; Moses Agbukor; Isoken Omo; Andrew Emwanta and Mrs. Otse Momoh-Omorogbe.

Osagie, a media expert, has over two decades experience in journalism and public relations practice. He served as Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy in Governor Obaseki’s first term in office.

Ajose-Adeogun, a former employee of Shell, is an accomplished professional with over two decades of multidisciplinary experience in the oil and gas industry. During her distinguished career in the oil industry spent in Shell Petroleum Development Company, and its other subsidiaries, Sarah was involved in various transformation initiatives that generated sustainable value across social performance, information technology and local content disciplines.

While at Shell, Sarah deployed technology applications for management of over USD2 billion investment funds and managed the Pension Fund digitization programme, among other projects.
