COUNTER SPEECH AT APC LOCAL GOVERNMENT INAUGURATION

DISTINGUISHED PARTY LEADERS, RESPECTED ELDERS, EXECUTIVES, AND FAITHFUL MEMBERS OF OUR GREAT PARTY, THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, I GREET YOU ALL.

TODAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DAY OF UNITY, CELEBRATION, AND RENEWED COMMITMENT TO THE IDEALS AND CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29) OF OUR GREAT PARTY. HOWEVER, I FEEL COMPELLED, AS A LOYAL PARTY MEMBER, TO RESPECTFULLY ADDRESS SOME ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN RAISED HERE TODAY WHICH APPEAR TO CONTRADICT THE PROVISIONS OF THE APC CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29).

OUR PARTY IS BUILT ON DISCIPLINE, INTERNAL DEMOCRACY, AND RESPECT FOR CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESSES. NO MATTER OUR POSITIONS OR INFLUENCE WITHIN THE PARTY STRUCTURE, WE MUST ALWAYS ENSURE THAT OUR ACTIONS AND STATEMENTS ALIGN WITH THE PRINCIPLES AND GUIDELINES CLEARLY STATED IN THE PARTY CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29).

LET ME RESPECTFULLY STATE THAT ANY POSITION OR DIRECTIVE THAT GOES AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29) OF THE APC CANNOT REPRESENT THE COLLECTIVE WILL OF THE PARTY. OUR LOYALTY IS FIRST TO THE CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29) OF OUR GREAT PARTY, WHICH SERVES AS THE FOUNDATION OF FAIRNESS, JUSTICE, AND UNITY AMONG MEMBERS.

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT OUR RESPECTED STATE GOVERNOR, WHO REMAINS THE LEADER OF THE PARTY IN THE STATE, MAY NOT BE AWARE OF SOME OF THESE FRAUDULENT ACT THAT IS BEEN ORCHESTRATED BY PASTOR *OSAGIE IZE- IYAMU* . THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR ANYONE TO USE HIS NAME OR AUTHORITY TO JUSTIFY ACTIONS THAT CONTRADICT THE CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29) OF OUR PARTY.

AS LOYAL PARTY MEMBERS, WE MUST AVOID ANYTHING THAT MAY BE INTERPRETED AS ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITY, DIVISION, OR ACTIONS CAPABLE OF WEAKENING THE STRUCTURE WE HAVE ALL WORKED HARD TO BUILD.

LET US REMEMBER THAT APC IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL. OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO PROTECT THE INTEGRITY, UNITY, AND FUTURE OF THIS GREAT PARTY.

I THEREFORE CALL ON ALL LEADERS AND MEMBERS TO RETURN TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE APC CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29), RESPECT DUE PROCESS, AND ENSURE THAT OUR ACTIONS STRENGTHEN — NOT DIVIDE — OUR PARTY AT THE GRASSROOTS LEVEL.

TOGETHER, THROUGH UNITY, DISCIPLINE, AND RESPECT FOR OUR PARTY CONSTITUTION (ARTICLE 29), WE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE OUR PARTY FORWARD.

THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS.

ORGANIZED YOUTH FORUM FOR BETTER EDO COMMENDS EDO STATE GOVERNMENT FOR ORDERING THE RELEASE OF DETAINED AAU STUDENTS

The Organized Youth Forum for Better Edo (OYFBE) has expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government for intervening and directing the release of the detained students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who were earlier arrested during a peaceful protest.

In a statement made available to the media and signed by the Secretary of the Forum, Comrade Benjamin Jerry. O, OYFBE described the government’s action as a commendable step that demonstrates responsiveness, leadership maturity, and commitment to justice and democratic values.

According to the Forum, the government’s intervention has not only restored hope but has reaffirmed the fact that dialogue, understanding, and constructive engagement remain the most effective tools for addressing civic matters involving citizens, especially young people.

“We sincerely appreciate the Edo State Government of Nigeria for listening to the voice of reason and ensuring the release of the detained students. This action has reassured the youth that their concerns are recognized and their rights protected within a democratic society,” the statement read.

OYFBE also commended civil society groups, student unions, human rights activists, and well-meaning citizens who stood firm in solidarity during the advocacy for the students’ freedom. The Forum encouraged the released students to continue to engage constructively and responsibly in matters concerning their welfare and education.

The Forum further called on security agencies to always handle student-related issues with caution, professionalism, and respect for constitutional rights, while urging the government to intensify efforts toward strengthening security in Ekpoma and other communities across the state.

The Organized Youth Forum for Better Edo reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, youth participation, peace, and a safer society for all.

ORGANIZED YOUTH FORUM FOR BETTER EDO CONDEMNS ARREST AND DETENTION OF AAU STUDENTS IN EKPOMA

The Organized Youth Forum for Better Edo (OYFBE) has strongly condemned the arrest and continued detention of students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, describing the development as unjust, oppressive and a clear violation of their fundamental human rights.

In a statement released to the media and signed by the Secretary of the Forum, Comrade Benjamin J. O, OYFBE expressed serious concern over the arrest of the students who were reportedly engaged in a peaceful protest against the increasing wave of insecurity, including kidnapping and threats to lives within Ekpoma and surrounding communities.

According to the Forum, the students did not engage in violence but were simply raising legitimate concerns about their safety and welfare — concerns that government and security agencies ought to prioritize rather than suppress.

“It is deeply troubling that instead of addressing the genuine fears of these young citizens, security operatives resorted to intimidation and unlawful detention. Peaceful protest is a democratic right guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution, and no student should be punished for demanding protection and security,” the statement added.

The Forum further described the arrests as arbitrary and unacceptable, noting reports that some of the detained students have been denied access to legal representation — a situation OYFBE said contradicts constitutional provisions and internationally recognized human rights standards.

OYFBE therefore called on the Edo State Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to immediately secure the unconditional release of the detained students. The Forum urged government institutions to embrace dialogue and constructive engagement with young people rather than repression.

Finally, the Organized Youth Forum for Better Edo reaffirmed its commitment to standing with Edo youths and defending their rights to safety, justice, expression, and peaceful civic participation.

Comrade Benjamin Jerry. O
Secretary, Organized Youth Forum for Better Edo (OYFBE)
