BASEPA CONDUCTS AUGUST 2026 MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE

BASEPA, has successfully conducted monthly sanitation,the exercise focused on Community Sanitation “Aikin Gyya" at Anguwan Inkil. The Director General, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose, led the management team to inspect the sanitation activities in the area.

As part of the exercise, BASEPA commissioned the newly constructed Waste Collection Centre at Games Village. The facility will serve as a collection point for over three (3) communities including Dutsen Tanshi, Jahun, Games Village and environs.

The project was commissioned on behalf of the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Housing and Environment, by the Permanent Secretary, Alh.Yamai Mohammed.

In his remarks, the Director General, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, for the construction of the centralized waste collection centre at Games Village.

Dr. Bose stated that the project aligns with the environmental sanitation policy of the present administration, which is aimed at building a cleaner and healthier state.The Games Village site is now officially open and has been put to use. BASEPA also donated wheelbarrows and shovels to Ward Heads to ease the transportation of waste from households. This will improve sanitation across the benefiting communities.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Logistics Support: BASEPA has provided wheelbarrows and shovels to Ward Heads to ease the transportation of waste to the new site.
2. Monitoring: Ward Heads have pledged to monitor their wards and stop all forms of illegal dumping.
3. Sensitization: Ward Heads are to educate residents on the health and environmental hazards of indiscriminate waste disposal.

The Centre will facilitate the proper collection and management of solid waste, while suitable organic waste materials will be processed into organic compost for use on farms.This initiative will contribute significantly to environmental cleanliness, sustainable agriculture, and the protection of public health.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF END OF THE MONTH ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE FOR SATURDAY, 29TH AUGUST 2026

This is to inform the general public that the end-of-month Environmental Sanitation Exercise will be conducted on Saturday, 29th August 2026 between the hours of 7:00am – 10:00am.

However, due to the 2026 Local Government Staff Promotion Examination scheduled to hold in Bauchi on the same day, there will be no restriction of human and vehicular movement during the exercise.

The general public is therefore directed to remain at home and sanitize their immediate environment within the stipulated hours.

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency, BASEPA, will collaborate with community members and stakeholders to carry out community sanitation at various locations within the metropolis.

Earlier today, BASEPA received a courtesy visit from the Industrial Training Fund - ITF.

The ITF delegation met with the Director General, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose, in his office. The purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration with BASEPA in the areas of training and capacity building.

Dr. Bose appreciated the visit and reaffirmed BASEPA’s commitment to partnering with ITF to build capacity for staff and provide SIWES placement for students in environmental-related fields.

BASEPA INTENSIFIES WASTE EVACUATION IN BAUCHI METROPOLIS

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency, BASEPA, has evacuated solid waste from Fed Low Cost By-Pass, Murtala Muhammed Way, Wunti Flyover, Tambari Housing Estate, Aminu Street, and Bakin Kura/Ram Road Collection Centres.

The Agency also carried out liquid waste evacuation in some selected areas to prevent flooding and environmental pollution.

The Director General, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose, reiterated BASEPA’s commitment to sustaining environmental sanitation across the state.

BASEPA PARTICIPATES IN ONGOING VALIDATION OF LEAD POISONING PREVENTION AND CONTROL MANUAL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS IN NIGERIA.

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency - BASEPA, through its Environmental Health Officers, is actively participating in the ongoing National Validation of the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Manual for Environmental Health Officers in Nigeria

The validation workshop, organized by the Federal Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria - EHORECON and other development partners, is aimed at equipping Environmental Health Officers with a standardized national guide for the prevention, identification, and control of lead poisoning across communities.

Speaking during the session, the BASEPA representative, Sanitarian Haruna Suleiman, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to supporting national efforts to reduce exposure to lead, particularly among women and children. He stated that BASEPA will domesticate the manual in Bauchi State and ensure that EHOs across the 20 Local Government Areas are trained on risk assessment, environmental inspection, community sensitization, and proper reporting of lead-related cases.

The participation of BASEPA aligns with the Bauchi State Government’s agenda to promote healthier environments and prevent diseases linked to hazardous substances.

COMMUNITY HEALTH UNITY AND PROGRESSIVE INITIATIVE (CHUP) LAUNCHES "LAFIYAR UWA, LAFIYAR JARIRI" PROJECT AT PHCC MIRI, BAUCHI STATE

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) through its Environmental Health Officers participated in the launch of the Community Health Unity and Progressive Initiative (CHUP) flagship project "LAFIYAR UWA, LAFIYAR JARIRI" at the Primary Health Care Center, Miri, Bauchi State.

The launch event brought together community members, health workers, Environmental Health Officers, and other stakeholders to promote maternal and child health in the area.

Speaking during the event, CHUP representatives emphasized the importance of preventive health practices. Key health talks delivered focused on:
- Healthier Mothers and Healthier Babies through Antenatal Care, proper nutrition, and routine immunization
- 5 Critical Times of Hand Washing to prevent infections
- Personal Hygiene and Food Hygiene for disease prevention
- Environmental Sanitation for a healthier community

The project aligns with the Bauchi State Government and BASEPA’s mandate to reduce maternal and child mortality and promote healthy communities across the 20 LGAs of the state.

CHUP reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with BASEPA, the Bauchi State Ministry of Health, and PHCC Miri to sustain health education and outreach activities in the community.

MARKET AND BAKERY INSPECTION

The Agency's Environmental Health Officers (EHO's) conducted a special inspection exercise at Mararaban Liman Katagum and Gwallameji Market.

The exercise is part of the Agency's routine activities, where markets and bakeries were inspected to assess the level of compliance.

At Gwallameji Market, officers expressed dismay over traders displaying their goods in an unsuitable manner.The officers worked together with the market leaders to make proper arrangements to relocate them to a more suitable site within the area.

In an effort to mitigate the cholera outbreak in Toro LGA, the BASEPA Toro Area Office, in collaboration with the WASH Unit, Toro LGA and UNICEF representatives, visited the affected communities in Wonu North.

During the visit, the team held interactive sessions with the District Head and other traditional rulers in the area before proceeding to the affected communities to carry out decontamination and chlorination of water sources and also conducted sensitization for community members on preventive measures.

HOUSE-TO-HOUSE INSPECTION

Earlier today, BASEPA conducted a routine house-to-house inspection at Unguwar Nufawa.

During the exercise, some of the nuisances identified included broken slabs and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, among others.

Notices were served to two (2) households to fix their slabs within one week. Follow-up will be made to ensure total compliance.
