HGSFP: State Focal Person charges Protein Suppliers companies on trust and Quality Control
In a renewed effort to restore the battered image of the school feeding program and improve quality control in the supply chains, the newly appointed Focal Person and Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes Hon Ahmad Madaki Gololo has admonished protein suppliers companies to uphold trust in the sufficient supply and distribution of proteins across all centres.
In a meeting held at BASSIPO with protein companies, Madaki Gololo reiterated the determination of the present administration to complement the effort put forward by the FG on the school feeding initiative in the state, added that '' it is pertinent to note that this noble scheme is a trust which every one must account for it, hence there is need for you as contractors to preserve the sanctity of this trust at all cost. A committee was set up by the governor in which we were able to discover enormous challenges especially in the protein centres where cooks have not been given the required proteins and these complains were virtually every where in the state''. Madaki Gololo said this government has no intention of witch hunting any one but it believes in committed service to the people.
In her separate remark, the program manager of the Bauchi State School feeding program, Mrs Doris Yashi explains that the era of getting away with a crime is over and therefore warns food vendors to desist themselves from causing anything that would jeopardize the program in the state, noted that those going around collecting money from women and given them fake forms claiming to be providing to people feeding job, if caught will be severely dealt with, as security agencies has since been informed to arrest any person engaged in such fraudelant act. Mrs Yashi further stresses the importance of time and call on cooks to ensure timely delivery of hot-meals to the pupils.
The meeting cautioned the suppliers to be careful in their conduct as they might be aware that FG has recruited monitors and assigned them to 20 LGAs of the state to ensure stiff adherence to the rules of engagement through effective monitoring of the program, therefore no defaulter would be allowed to go without refunding the money to the FG's account.
The meeting further discussed the deadlock associated with multiple clusters during protein's distribution, and later resolved to provide a unique cluster which will be used by service providers, while on the issue of persistent complains by cooks, henceforth cook's identity cards will be produced and issued at the SIPs office Bauchi to avoid extortion. Also pointed out at the meeting is the issue of centrality and inevitable need of getting a hygienic place of slaughtering of animals and already the State School Feeding Multi Sectoral Team had since at their last meeting directed all LGAs to assign one veterinary officer so as to ensure absolute compliance and preservation of hygienic quality of proteins at all times. Going by the implementation manual requirement, each participating state should adopt and sustain monitoring and evaluation mechanism which will further support the program, also highlighted.
Part of the central agenda discussed during the meeting was the recent disbursement to cooks and protein suppliers and the modalities of feeding commencement, the meeting resolved that Wednesday 31st July 2019 was slated for the 17th trench feeding commencement in the Bauchi state while the remaining missed out days would be completed after schools resumption.
Responding, the State Chairman Protein Suppliers Forum Alh. Usman Muhammad promised to be just and transparent in their conduct and urged the management of the SIPs to consider introducing a sensitization training which will involve all cooks as this will go a long way for each cook to be able to know the kilogram and the quantity of proteins given are in conformity with their number of pupils allocated to a vendor.
HGSFP is one of the giant stride of the Buhari led FG to uplift the standard of education through direct feeding program to school pupils and with the coming of Senator Bala Muhammad as Bauchi State Governor, the program is receiving massive support not only in the feeding program but in all the four components of the Social Investment Programmes. The school feeding program is targeted at increasing enrollment in our schools, boost local farmers wealth, combat malnutrition among poor households and empowering community base women to serve as cooks which will eventually support grassroot economy and growth.
