PRESS RELEASE

Calabar, Cross River State

The grand finale of “The Future First Youth Tour” was held yesterday at the State Library Hall, where Cross River youths gathered in unity for a statewide initiative designed to assess and spotlight the developmental strides of the government across all 18 Local Government Areas, while recognizing notable infrastructure projects. Hon. Peter Odey, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, also graced the occasion.

The Speaker of the Cross River State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Ugeh Comfort Mona, represented the collective voice of young people at the event. Addressing participants, the Speaker noted that the initiative provided a credible platform for youths to witness firsthand the government’s commitment to development and good governance.

In light of these achievements, Cross River youths gathered in unity and endorsed His Excellency for a second term in office, commending the remarkable projects executed across the state. On behalf of the youth constituency, the Speaker formally moved the motion of endorsement. The motion was seconded by the Coordinator of Biase, Comrade Godsday Ukam, reflecting a broad-based consensus among young people across the state.

The Speaker further applauded the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Olayi Emmanuel, for his visionary leadership and for spearheading an initiative that has strengthened youth engagement in governance and accountability.

This moment represents not just recognition, but a reaffirmation of the collective commitment of Cross River youths to support leadership that delivers tangible progress.

PUBLIC APPEAL FROM THE CROSS RIVER STATE YOUTH PARLIAMENT

The Cross River State Youth Parliament expresses deep concern over the unfortunate situation affecting Cross River students currently stranded in Jos following the recent crisis.

We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters during this difficult time and call on the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu alongside members of the National Assembly from Cross River State, including the distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the House of Representatives, to urgently intervene and provide the necessary assistance.

These students are not just individuals—they are the future of our state. At a time like this, they require immediate support in the areas of safety, evacuation where necessary, temporary shelter, and welfare.

We urge all relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to ensure their protection and safe return, where required. The safety and well-being of Cross River indigenes, especially our youth, must remain a top priority.

The Youth Parliament remains committed to advocating for the welfare of young people and will continue to engage stakeholders until meaningful action is taken.
